I wooted one last time around - and am very happy with it. My laptop speakers don't get loud enough, so I bought this to make up the difference. It won't impress an audiophile, but it does what it's supposed to - give decent sound when you need some portability.

And, I think my roomba has the hots for it.

These speakers are great, got like 6 of them in the 2 for tues deal (180 bucks!), I was afraid it was a big risk, but when i plugged them in I was very surprised for the sound quality and bass/volume that was coming out of something this small (the sound quality is not the best compared to desktop systems but then again if ur being an audiophile about speakers that fit in ur pocket then be my guest).

These are quite possibly the best 2.1 portable speaker system ive heard, the bass beats out a lot of other systems in its class (portable speakers from logitech, JBL, even altec lansing). Comes with a microfiber cleaning cloth which is ribs and keep in mind these originally retailed and people actually paid nearly 100 dollars for them each. For 25 dollars this is a steal, except I already bought 6 before and gave them as gifts/sold them to friends.

Definately a great woot.

Can anyone say more about how long the batteries last? I would be using these almost all on batteries, and if I can get, say, 6 hours a day, 4-5 days a week, for a month (or at least half a month) on one battery set, I'll have to pass.

akarchangel wrote:I have this, and it is OK for what it is. The Philips Shoqbox is an all around better investment for about the same price or even less though. It is smaller, sounds better, and doubles as an alarm clock. You can even add a few favorites to the (smallish) internal memory, though its main use is as powered speakers ala the Saitek. Check out the Philips outlet, they often have the 128MB version for $20 or less.

I also have the shoqbox and the saitek speakers featured today. I use the saitek w/notebook(speaker fits in my notebook) The Shoqbox does get louder. Both of them are a nice value and are portable. I like both of them about the same.

My 2 cents. I have two of these and love them. If you are a road warrior these take up little space, expand for better volume, and IMO produce great sound for presentations or just listening to your favorite internet radio in the hotel.

I bought this from woot before! It's really ribs. Good sound and you can turn it up pretty loud. I brought it with my mp3 player to a friend's party and we partied the night away with the good sounding tunes!

Agreed. It's tempting (girlfiend could use some decent speakers for her newish Sansa), but I'm hesitant if it's not as good as the shoqbox.

...and yeah, the shoqbox kicks ass. It even makes my co-workers jealous. My only regret is that I didn't buy two or three of them.

I just looked up the ShoqBox on Amazon, and they have several models. They run from $49.99 to $149.99; not quite in the same ballpark for us pikers.

I got one from Woot some time ago. I haven't had it out since I used it to play some Johnny Cash from my MP3 player in my father's hospital room the day he passed away from cancer, but that's just my own personal hangup.

Here's my tip. I switched out the audio cable (1/8 inch to 1/8 inch) that came with it with a smaller coiled one that came with my Sonic Impact T-amp, just 'cause it was smaller and easier to transport around. I discovered that using the different audio cable made a definite improvement in the sound. So if y'all aren't happy with the sound, try a different cable.

monster cables really make a difference. or better quality cables.

and... what do you do with something like that because you don't want to sell it... and you don't want to use it... these speakers aren't necessarily ordinary looking enough to forget about using them... crazy stuff.

The fatal flaw in the two I got a while back is the battery compartment doors that refuse to stay on. Otherwise the speakers are pretty good, but neither of the battery compartment doors will lock into place or stay on. Since no one else has mentioned that, maybe it's only my two, but why would that be?

I got one a while ago, when they were $80 and I haven't been disappointed. I don't use it as my main sound system, but when on the road with an MP3 player it does produce a decent level of sound for a large room. For the difficulty opening it? just push down on the center slowly till it can't compress any more and it will pop up nice and slow... it takes a little while to figure out the pressure, but once it's open, if it bothers you that much, use the AC adapter and leave it open...

1) This is 2.1 because it (from the description at least) contains 2 speakers AND a subwoofer. 7.1 means 7 speakers and a sub, 2.1 means two speakers and a sub.

2) This does NOT take a digital signal, it only has an analog "headphone" jack.

3) I doubt that it will return to you if you throw it.

4) It would be compatible with mp3 players, windows, mac, laptop, ipod, whatever, because it uses a standard 3.5 headphone jack.

Adapters that are available at most electronics stores make it compatible with almost anything that needs small speakers.

We bought a pair of these a while back for a 2 for Tuesday for our office. We have been really happy with them for use as part of presentations on the road. When we're hooked up to an LCD projector in a conference room, these things are small enough to easily travel with yet get enough sound out for everyone to hear audio from the presentations.

Go for it.

I got one of these way back when on the first time they were on Woot. They suck. You can barely get enough volume out of them to hear them. Perhaps they're okay for indoors, but I bought them to use w/my mp3 player while camping and you get 3 or 4 people talking around the fire and the first question is, "What happened to the music?" and of course, the answer is, "Y'all got too loud."
