This may be the first woot I ever purchase, so a decent opinion would help:

I plan to use it with my Pocket PC (Dell Axim x50v). The speaker on the Axim is rubbish, but it does XviD movies with PSP quality. I don't like using headphones to watch movies/episodes I download, and these speakers seem small enough to actually tote around and use in conjunction with my PPC. The battery life, I don't care so much for, as I wouldn't use the things every day (just on long trips, etc.)

I also don't care to play these things at a huge volume (which is what most people like to do with speakers, which I absolutely abhor). Will these things do the job, at a moderate volume, occasionally in a crowded place (such as an airport), and not sound crappy (where you hear the hissing sound when people talk)?

I use mine at work over normal work office sounds and there isn't an issue (but i am in my own little cube). As far as hissing...i have decent sound quality off my iPod, 'bout the same as if i use my headphones (which are the ones that came with the iPod). The noise quality doesn't get insanely crappy when you turn up the volume.

possibly, plugs into the headphone jack. personally i use them on my iPod and my work computer (which only has the built in internal speaker...cause it sucks)

Thanks, you pretty much sold it for me. Not a bad first woot, I've been looking for portable speakers forever. I got a Creative one for 40 after rebate, but it was huge. It was good for my old laptop, but didn't have spectacular sound anyway (it managed 300 though).

My Significant Sweetie just took our external speaker with her to use at work, so we were in the market for a replacement. These don't look anywhere near so neat-o as the lovely lung-shaped one (the name of which slips my mind) we'd bought before on Woot!, but for background music at a desk, or podcasts in the kitchen, they should be just fine. Thanks, guys.

(Oh, and Jen forgives you, Woot! for not hiring her. Aforementioned new job is at a Big Downtown Law Firm. Not that she's gloating, or anything.)

Someone once posted a very good tip during a similar woot! Now I feel obligated to re-post said tip:

If you are looking for a very solid speaker solution for your portable audio player, get the Tivoli iPAL (google it). It will work with any portable audio player. It has a built-in 8-hr rechargeable battery. It has a radio. It has a REALLY long telescoping old-school-looking antenna (that disappears when not in-use). It has wicked sound. Sure it is $186 more than this woot!, but you will get that value back in about the first month of use.

Save the $$ you are going to spend on junk like this (no offense woot!) and get a rock-solid solution like the iPAL.

Just my 2 cents...

iRobot Roomba 4296 Remote Scheduler Robotic Vacuum (mom's day gift)

These should work just fine with your Axim. I'd say that 90% of the comments here are from people who don't have these or have blown out their eardrums using other means. I have bought several of these in the past and am very happy with the sound. These can be quite loud and keep their tonal quality without distortion. Battery life if very impressive. My 6 year old uses his a few days a week and hasn't changed his batteries since I installed them in Feb.

There isn't a lot of bass, but it isn't entirely lacking either. You will be able to pick bass sounds up and that helps to follow the music. I used one of these for months with an old walkman at a placed I was outsourced. Crisp, clean sound which won't annoy or disturb anyone unless you crank it up.

I am planning on getting an adapter and using one of these with my Motorola Q in the same way you use your Axim.

That would be the Saitek A-200. A great speaker, but not in the same league as this one. Another highly recommended speaker is the Logitech mm28 which woot has on occasion.

If you are expecting audiophile sonic bliss, then pass...

On the other hand, when my teen aged daughters had friends over and wanted to share tunes from their MP3 players, they would place the ear buds on the table and turn the volume all the way up. (Think no one does this? Ask your kids!)

These work much better than that; have decent battery life, are not too fragile, and are not so expensive that you have to treat them like gold.

If you have kids with MP3 players, and don't have a set of these yet, go for it!

Eh, what the hell. In for a 2fer this morning. I need some cheapo speakers, for when I'm out camping or something for my iPod. This will work just fine. Not trying to impress any of the ladies in the middle of the campground. The 40-somethings with hairy armpits, no teeth, etc.

Looking forward to see how these things sound.

I bought 2 of these the last time they listed them. I think it is definitely worth the money. As far as the power, you have the option to hook up a 6 volt power supply to use with out batteries(Power supply not included). I don't crank up my music real loud or anything like that but I use it a lot when I'm in the truck with somebody else listening.

Would both sets of speakers fit in one item slot? As a budding warrior of the Three Kingdoms, it is important for me to always have the Lu Bu theme playing so that I can never forget my aspirations of becoming the most renowned warrior ever whispered of in fearful, hushed tones. Would the speakers even need an item slot? Could I perchance fit them to my Hex Mark Saddle? Can you ship to the Wu kingdom? Well, I am ordering anyways - look for me in the history books to see if the speakers truly give me the edge I seek (but without effort, of course... What sort of warrior needs to put effort into greatness?) - Zhou Yu, Wu Kingdom

I have one of these. Not the most powerful portable speakers by far, pretty lacking in bass, but not bad at all, especially for the 2-for price. Don't expect great sound but they do work well.

I bought a 4 of these the last time they were offered. I gave 3 away to my friends and kept one for myself. They are awesome! I had to buy 4 more because other people who heard the ones my friends had thought they were awesome, as well and wanted a pair. Very compact, but don't let the size fool you. They produce magnificent sound.

I love how quickly these get posted to eBay, and the demonstration of some of Woot's "flippers'" completely lack of patience by listing them immediately with a line reading: "won't ship until 7/25."

Stuff like this never moves on eBay. Don'tcha get it?

I'll need more than your 2 cents to compare the Tivoli iPal to this set of portable speakers. In fact, it'll take 17,001 more cents to compare the two, and that's just for ONE iPal from Amazon. I doubt seriously that I could get that many cents' worth back in a month.

Also, the iPal (this is an Amazon review comment) is "not wonderfully portable". These are. The iPal has a radio in it to overcome what the iPod leaves out. Don't have an iPod, don't need that functionality.

I'm happy that you are happy (I'm sure everyone here is), but at least keep your comparisons to products in the same order of magnitude as what Woot! is offering.

Dude, I seriously hope you are kidding. So your suggested solution costs more than 45 times the costs of these. Maybe we need a side by side comparison of a $15,000 Hyundai car a $675,000 Rolls Royce. Get real, or at least relevant.
