Wootalyzer's Pricing Post! - Saving Woot prices for decades to come
------------------------------------------------------------
Each night at 12:00, the price of the old Woot item mysteriously goes missing -- forever. What happens to this price, you may ask? According to our "highly-accredited" sources, the Russian mafia has hacked Woot's servers and permanantly erases the price each night! MWAHAHA! But Wootalyzer is here to help! Our Woot-Security System 2000 stores the price on our multiple secure servers, SAFE from those crazy Russian hackers! Oh wait... maybe that's not completely true. By "Crazy Russian Hackers," perhaps I meant to say "Crazy Woot Development Monkies." And by "Woot-Security System 2000," perhaps I meant to say "Forum Post." Meh, Close Enough.

and now... some linkage... all those comparison shopping links... could be useful... other than that, why can't we get this product in fire engine red... or something... nevermind... its a refurbie... not worthy of hot fire status... ... ... YET.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

Compaq? Do they still have the same reputation for lousy quality thay used to? Or did they get better when they got bought by HP?

What Pants?

it was like looking in a mirror. I am on this right now. Not bad for a slow computer without much memory. For basic internet browsing this is fine.

This seems to be a great buy for a back to school computer, if your kid does not need a laptop. I already have a good enough system, but this one is much much better.

Pretty solid buy for somebody that just needs a word processing/internet machine. Too bad it's Vista though, this machine would be much better off with XP MCE or XP.

Compaq... Should be called Trash Compactor. I hate Compaq and HP. They put Small power supplies that last just to the end of warranty. Would not touch this one with a 10 foot pole. L O L ... If I know it was in a B O C, I would not buy it for a Buck.

I found this at Dealtime for at least $100 more. Is this a good price for this PC? Seems to have all the features that I would want in a modern PC. Is this powerful enough for Video Editing or Photoshop work? Thanks.

Sorry woot! This is an awful deal. I got a Acer x2 4000+ 250gb 1gb ddr2 w/vista home premium for $240 new. Had to return the monitor, but just trying to point out there's a lot cheaper to be had for low-end comps with better warranties.

Compaq/HP make terrible machines - desktop and laptop. Compaq business used to be reasonable quality until HP merged with them and quality went the same way...

No... Their reputation has only gotten worse... Calling it Lousy is a compliment to where they really are...

Wow...Where did you see a 3.5 floppy? The description specifically says, "NO FLOPPY DRIVE"
This is a decent computer for a low, low price. Sheesh...what a bunch of snooty computer freaks....

Problem number 1 - It's a Compaq

Small Hard Drive, no card readers, Pentium 4 spends too much of it's processing ability for tattle-tailing.

Thus far I have been very unimpressed with Vista.

No it is not compatable with a Mac.

zyodei

Is anyone else sad about how hard it is to buy new consumer level PCs that DON'T come loaded with Vista? Vista is bloatware garbage, they took a perfectly good thing and screwed it up.

XP was relatively stable, easy to use, and powerful. After spending about ten hours using Vista on various computers, I have found NOTHING to like about it, and it kills the performance of most PCs. 1GB is barely enough.

doody, I would rather just get a computer with nothing at all on it and just put Linux on it myself. As such, the idea that any of that $300 is going to M$ for their lousy efforts is a deal breaker for me. Which may well mean that I am going to have to stick with used PCs for the near future.

Way to screw over the whole PC industry, Microsoft.

actually Compaq is made by HP.

I have had nothing but trouble from HP, and their off shore-follow the phone support-geeked-technical support-from cleveland. Who, not only don't know whats wrong, but also have to soend 45 minutes doing all the old stuff. I still hate them.

I hate them so much that I would not advise my husbands EX-wife to buy one. (she's Satan's little sister, you know)

Top it off by adding Vista and there's no way i'd buy it,

the warranty kills this deal.

yea, it is only a compaq. Yea it is a refurb (rox0rz!). a year warranty would make this almost worthwhile. It would take $300 or more in parts, with tax and shipping to build this.

My brother has one and it works well. Over all, the hardware seems ok, and the lightscribe is really cool, but I have no idea how it will run with vista because he still uses xp home.

DO NOT BUY! I purchased one of these in May, and because it is refurbished, it has only a 3-month warranty. Three months and 5 days later, it completely died. Have been working with tech support, but they are no help, and they don't seem to want to replace the motherboard or whatever has died. $299 is way too much to spend on a boat anchor, and a bad one of those at that!

No refurbished computers for me, thanks. Too much can go wrong with a brand-new box to buy one with a 90-day warranty, much less one that's already exploded before.

If you do buy this, though, a Windows XP install disc and a reformat as soon as the machine arrives would make your life a whole lot easier.
