sansa's have to be set in drive mode. normally they want to be synched with something, but you can change that. very friendly device, and don't mind the refurb (rox0rz!). sandisk does good refurb (rox0rz!) work.

are you needing broadcast quality recordings? this has a pretty nice voice function on it - decent mic, but if you get a battery powered mic, you can get a good recording from it. the cowon iaudios have a bit better encoding, but these are solid.

Does this support Vista? The spec doesn't say one way or the other. Minimum requirements of XP doesn't necessarily include Vista as I am finding out the hard way...

Windows XP only? Media Player 10 required?
Isn't this just a drag-n-drop USB connected memory device?

Yes, there's a switch to set it to USB mass storage. I think the WMP10 requirement is for subscription service (not really a requirement for anyone with an ounce of brains).

These are nice. Got the 2gb model woot, and signed up for the Rhapsody thingy--like 15 bucks a month unlimited songs, just drag whatever I want to listen to that day to the media player and am all set. Micro SD cards are only gonna get cheaper. This is a good woot.

For voice you don't need a computer, has a mic and a designated record button, not menu driven, you might appreciate that design, for others, it is kind of too easy to press and start a voice recording not wanting to... but no line in for cd ripping...

it appears to only play the audio files. i have a few of these, including the 2 gb video player.. it's already indecently small for a screen, i can't imagine this being a video player. usually for the video ones, woot tells you to download the media converter.

Tuner works about as good as any other portable FM tuner. I have been satisfied with my SanDisk that I bought here over a year ago. Well worth the price just for the tuner.

Wish it had AM though.

Proprietery Li-on removable replaceable battery, (as well as usb cable...) worth buying at least two, battery runs $20... cable about $10... freight kills most deals on ebay you find for batteries...

I'm in for 3 for that reason alone... extra battery and cable for travel kit...

I bought three refurbished e140 sandisk mp3 players in an earlier woot. They are very rugged and sound great. My kids love them. I use my cell phone for mp3s now though (Moto Q).

I am not sure about this one but I bought the 2GB that was on a few weeks ago. I was going to use it as a Christmas gift for someone, but after using it a little, the FM Radio, and the Voice/Audio Recorder option, I am keeping it. Not like I need it with an iPod Min, iTouch, and all, but this is a nice little diversion. I think the recording option alone is worth it, a digital audio recorder is around 50 bucks. With all those features on this one too, I think it would make a great recorder, or gift for someone, or as a spare player for your car.
