Bose speakers are good for selling to people with more money than sense.

(Though it's entirely possible that the person who dropped $100 for the 901's with rotted out surrounds that i salvaged from a trash pile, repaired them and turned around and sold em for $200. In which case, we both did well.)

bordwine wrote:Riff-Raff here. What exactly is a VIP sale? Spill the beans.

The VIP thing works like this:
You buy something from woot, be it through a woot off, sellout.woot or whatever.
They run across some inventory for something related to what you previously bought. Maybe even not related, just randomly pick people for it.

You get the mail, usually includes a coupon (that's the VIP part, as each VIP item has come up on woot without the coupon for the same price later).

It's sort of a "discounted pre-woot.com sale"

And yeah, these are over the ear headphones. I like em. Beats the local price on the same set too.

it's amazing what you learn from randomness within a forum... thank you guys for posting this. My hubby snores terribly and I've often wondered if it could be worse than just a loud noise.

Don't know how the two compare in terms of quality though, but this one looks to have good reviews.

I have those Philips headphones, they're alright. They fold down pretty small. They seem to have an unbalanced noise cancellation. The side with the battery works better than the side without. If you're looking for the compact size, then go for the Philips. I own both the Jabra and the Philips and I prefer the sound quality and noise cancellation of the Jabra.

Ok, fill me in on the VIP details....

I've ordered hundreds of dollars worth of stuff and NEVER got a VIP email (but I still get all Woot's emails on my order information)

What's the catch?

Probably the usual. Lots of anticipation and excitement followed by a sense of disappointment and a night sobbing to yourself in bed.

I went ahead and took the buy.com route with the google checkout discount.
For $5 less I get a return policy, in case they don't work well on the subway, or hurt my ears.
I'm happy.

Any comparison between these and the Peltor noise cancelling headphones that Woot has sold a few times at $34.95 or something like that? I have the Peltors and they are ok but not great. I do use them regularly and am willing to pay more for something better if the improvement is really noticable. But I haven't tried anything else (e.g. Bose) so I don't know how much room for improvement really exists. If you put these on in a quiet room with the NC activated, do you hear much hiss?

Don't feel bad. Woot occassionally sends out "VIP" coupons to people that have bought a certain item on woot. In this particular case it appears that woot sent emails to people that recently bought either the ZUNE or the SanDisk players. If you did not buy one of those items then you would not have received the email. For those that did, they received an opportunity to buy the Jabra C820 headsets early and were given a $10 coupon off for if they opted to buy. I did not at the time but decided to now. However, my coupon offer was not offered here...contrary to what woots email stated.

you should have gone to costco. they had the vmoda earphones for 15 bucks off their regularly discounted price. they were 60 bucks. they retail for $101.

i feel they are a steal for the sound quality. i've owned the shure e3c, the etymotic, and the vmoda spanks them both. the sale at costco ended today, but they still have them for 74.99 which is a decent price.

Don't feel bad. For those of us who got the VIP offer, we don't feel very VIPy now that the same product is being offered at the same price to all.

The coupon code, by the way, was only good for $10. If you bought more than two, you paid full freight on order number 2 and 3.

As for eBay, I've been watching these auctions slowly. Lowest price I have seen them go for is $41 -- the average looks to be more around $60.

I don't get the chubby everyone has for Bose. I've always found the sound quality just marginally better than anyone else. Bose certainly is not worth the inflated price, glorified infomercial junk.

ebay is never a guarantee... I bought a few sweatshirts from a company (obviously not well established enough, even though it had over 1k in rep). I bought the items in early December hoping for a Xmas gifting, but alas they were late and hoped to use them for a mid January b-day gift for the same person. They never came. Seems the guy let over 300 auctions end while in the midst of some domestic issues and didn't ever check on the status of all the sales he did. I fought with paypal and ebay for 2 months before I got my money back (and no sweatshirts for the person I bought them for.)

Just be wary of saying you'll get an ebay item before a woot item.

In fairness to Woot, the coupon was obviously only valid during the pre-sale. They even said that it was probably only going to be active for "a few days". That was over a week ago. They didn't have to offer the coupon in the first place. Plus you had two days of woot-offing to use it too.

There is a fairly large oval button under the price that says "I Want One!" on it. I would probably start there.

One last thing... These are NOT shipping SmartPost. Which means they will probably ship FedEx Ground and should be able to get to either coast in 3-5 days from the day they pack them up. I Usually get my stuff in 2-3 days in Indiana via standard FedEx.

I have small but sensitive ears and anything heavier than clip-ons hurts them if left on too long.

Do these actually encompass (or envelope) the ENTIRE ear, and do they put pressure on your outer ear (particularly the helix)?

I have both the Bose over the ear and the Jabra. Obviously, the Bose is better; However, for the price. Jabra headset do a good job. 8 out of 10 for the Jabra. 10 out of 10 for the Bose. I bought 2 for gifts to my friends during the VIP sale.

That's full of logic and sense...who let you in here? It's always better to complain about the things a company is doing wrong than what they are doing correctly. It should have been a $20 coupon, it should have lasted 6 months, Woot staff should come over and clean my house.

They are like Apple products (not talking about the computers so dont even start), they are just over-hyped into making everyone think they are amazing.

Sure they are in truth good, high quality devices (Bose and Apple stuff)... But you can find similar or even better quality in other places.
