Unit was stamped "REFURBISHED" in huge silver letters on the back, so it is not suitable as a gift. I have purchased refurbs before from other online retailers and have always gotten like-new items, but this Woot experience was horrid.

"Woot" is my new synonym for "rip off".

Those letters peel off easily with a razor blade leaving no hint of their existence.
Why complain about buying a terrific 1 Gig mp3 player for under 20 bucks including shipping.
If you expected gift quality then you shouldn't be buying a refurbished product. Most companies label their refurbished items as such to keep companies form selling them for full price, hence ripping of the manufacture.
Look at the big picture.
YOU GOT A TERRIFIC DEAL ON A TERRIFIC PLAYER .
I bought the exact same unit.

I think this is a really good Woot. However, I just bought the 2GB Sansa (which I really like). Would've waited for the 4GB version if I had known it was only $15 more. Put a 2GB card in it and it works great. Installed Rockbox and really like it. A little more complicated on the Rhapsody version due to the extra security, but there are detailed instructions on the Rockbox site on how to do it. Spent another $20 on a body glove case and accessories and they work fine. My only complaint is that Audible won't work on this player - that's fine though, it works on my Blackberry and my old Sansa so no big deal.

I bought the same e250 last month. Removed the R-E-F-U-R-B letters with the edge of a razor and absolutely love the player.

The headphones are average and I plan on buying better one's anyway, but for $30.00, it's a great deal.

The player works well, and I like it so much, that I just bought a re-furb-ed e270 (6gb) elsewhere for $60.00 (buy.com) and will RockBox my e250 and use it for the Gym while using my e270 as my main player.

And BTW, mine looked to be brand spankin' new in every way.

If you hate the player you got so much, I'll give you $20.00 for it.

That is, until I saw it here for 25% of what I paid for it, but that's neither here nor there. (=

I've got the 2GB version, and even though this is a refurb (rox0rz!) one - I am getting this so I can give my Mother in law mine and my wife the other 2GB one I bought for her. It's definately expandable with the ability to take a SD Micro card (I have one that's 2GB and it works fine in it!) The machines are pretty well built, and the sound quality is pretty good. Video is small, so if you need more in that department, you probably want an iPod. Nothing is compatible with the iPod except perhaps the MP3 files and the earbuds. Accessories are available (AC Charger, Car Charger, Docking Station), but are better on iPods, but again - this is much smaller and for me - better. Definately less expensive! Batteries can be replaced without having to send it back to the factory, and basic battery life is long (10+ hours between recharges) Also, you can now add 3rd party software, called RockBox that extend the feature set available. Scrollwheel takes a little getting used to, but you CAN skip ahead in a piece of music to near the end and listen to just the part you want (great feature for PodCasts that have long intros!!!!

Still available at 3:45 EDT today!

Well, I finally got an e-mail from Woot today that the Sansa I ordered on 11/5 is officially lost in the mail....they're refunding my $$ as they're out of replacements. That was not a good experience at all, as many other people can attest. But I see they're not using SmartPost this time, which was a big part of the problem. So I'm in for one. I still have to cross my fingers and hope I get a good player, not a brick or a trashed-out unit. Or an empty box.

Potrzebie!

It keeps its position unless you do <anything>else. Also, If your audio book files are greater than 30mins the fast forward function is slightly inadequate.

Same thing here and with most wooters, I suspect. The only way I'd have a Vista system is to get a new system with it preinstalled that I couldn't roll back to XP for lack of hardware drivers or other reasons.

A quick google search of "Sansa e260 Vista" gave the answer - yes, it is compatible.

In response to intrepid, I will say:

Yes, there were lots of people with empty boxes and bad players, but they sold 31,000 of them that day.

If 310 people had lost or broken players (me, mine was lost), that's 1%.

How many of those people are going to post to the forums? Most of them. How many who got and enjoyed their players would ever go back to that thread? Not many.

The description intrigued me enough to take some time today and read Metamorphosis for the first time courtesy of Gutenberg. What a sad, miserable story. However, it was refreshing to not have a Hollywood-esqe canned, happy ending.

Thanks again, Woot, for giving me a bit of culture mixed with depression.

Agreed -- I also was a lost in the mail -- after a week, got a response giving me an RMA # to return it... which is hard when I don't have the item ;).. I'm sure I will get this resolved -- and I chalk it up to the pains of doing business with less desirable shipping methods.. it appears that won't be the case with this woot, so I'm in. I will just pass on future woots using SmartPost.. that snail was a funny joke for a while.. now it's just a snail.

My first woot, I'm hoping it will be a pleasant experience. I needed a new mp3 player as mine decided to crap out on me after about 6 or 7 years, so I think it's about time for a new one. I've heard great things about this player, I just hope it lives up what I've heard.

According to their web site (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SoundCodecs) if you put the RockBox firmware on this Sansa e260 it will play Ogg/Vorbis. I'm not using ogg yet so haven't tested it myself.

Is it the Ver. 2? The original version doesn't support audible.

wvojak

quality posts: 0 Private Messages wvojak

Have one. . love it. .

Great Sound, Customizable Equalizer, well built, no lockups/freezing

Can take up to a 2GB micro SD. . If you flash the system with the latest firmware, it the micro SD can go larger. BUT the newest firmware isn't as stable.

Support mp3 & wmv and audio books

Voice recorder is pretty good.

It remembers where you left off in a song so when you start up, your song resumes where you left off.

Drag & drop - with a mass storage mode.

I heard that Sandisk is moving AWAY from the "Drag & drop" and "mass storage mode" e.g. the newest firmware no longer supports that mode. And they they are moving to a "would you prefer Rhapsody or would your prefer Rhapsody" model. What IDIOTS!!!

Good news is that there are a lot of hack available, and alternate mgmt software like rockbox.

Battery life is very very good. And if the battery ever dies? Sandisk will sell you a new battery kit for around $20!

If you are asking what the warranty is on refurbed items in general, it is zero to lifetime.

Sansa makes very, very good MP3 players. Much better than the iPod, IMHO.
But still man, I have a 1GB Sansa player and I'm happy with it. 4GB is too much music.

L O L .....Woot should have more ppl overseeing their shipping and CS depts, and less moderating this forum. Although I do admit my last reply was inappropriate, I amazed at the speed at which it was removed. I'd prefer to be amazed at the speed at which they deliver the products. What the hell is "smartpost" anyway? I never heard of it before now. Regardless of cost, there is no excuse not to produce a product within a week. Maybe they should keep the $5 shipping, and add another option to pay more if you prefer to have it in a reasonable amount of time. Maybe I just need to get laid or something....who knows?

We're not talking about Vista problems, we're talking about Vista Compatability.

And I own the 8 gig version of these little beauties, works fine with Vista. Just set it to MSC mode, I believe, and it works just like a flash drive. Only thing else you need to do is update, and you don't need to do that that often.
