Even a decent system should be <1% THD. A quality system will have total harmonic distortion ratings in the hundredths of a percent. No thanks.

I bought these last time they were up. They are worth the money, I'll stand by that. Little bit of ground hum but as long as you don't live in a completely silent house with no other living things, you have nothing to worry about. Bass is nice, sound quality is damn good for the price. My only complaint is that the peak volume is just barely where I like it during movies.

Just watched fight club in HD with the surround sound full blast last night. I enjoyed every second of it. RCA is still terrible, but I'd still buy em again.

Finally! A real world experience. Thx - I'm buying one. Even if I end up not liking it it'll still have a good life in my garage or the like.

I have this system and use it for the TV in the basement. I paid over twice the price listed here. While there are much better systems out there you won't find one for this kind of money.

While the sound is nowhere near that of a $1,000 surround sound system, it is ten thousand times better than your TV's stock sound system. Definitely a good deal.

I got one for 89 bucks and am very happy with it. If you are a true audiophile then I am sure this is considered crap. if you are like me and just want to listen to some background music while you surf and WOOT, then this is great for the money. It has quite a bit of bass and even on the lowest setting is pretty intense. As a strater for a young child ,or an ancillary unit this more than fills the bill. Best of all its not a Roomba, or another MP3 player

I need to see what this has for connections. The power specs sound like they could not be true. 1000 watts is this a joke? With that much power you could run a disco hall. There should be a link to the company's web site for more info and photos of the rear connections. Too bad it doesn't also have digital radio and a toaster oven.

Elitist audiophile whine is funny.

This system isn't manufactured and marketed to be the end-all-be-all of sound quality. It's manufactured to give you a cheap alternative to TV speakers.

Yes, it claims to be 1000 watts, and we all know that it isn't. But then, those sorts of numbers are always inflated or unnecessarily emphasized for marketing purposes. This is nothing new.

No, this system is not going to hold a candle to any of better and more expensive systems out there. But then, it's not intended to be anything great. This is a system for a small room, or a dorm, or an apartment, or a bedroom, or a garage, or a spare system to keep around, or whatever.

I bought this when it was offered on woot a couple of months ago. I live in an apartment, and the fact that this system can't knock the walls down is not a problem. It's still plenty loud enough for movies, or my Xbox, or whatever else I want it for, and it sounds pretty good to boot. If it only ends up lasting a year or two, I will still be perfectly satisfied with what I spent for it. And now, it's $10 cheaper. If this system fits your needs, then I'd recommend it. If you need something better, then go find it, and stop whining about this system not living up to a standard it was never meant to live up to.

Got this last time it was offered. If it's being used for 2.1 audio (Red & White cables) it doesnt sound very good however when hooked up to a device that offers Digital Audio outputs, it's not too shabby of a HTS. Sounds pretty good when hooked up to a 360 and a great solution for people in apartments as it isn't massively bassy.

I have an earlier model...you can buy them at Wal-Mart for cheap. They have pretty good sound, but are not very powerful, and the surround emulation kind of sucks. I use it for my dorm room which is good enough for me, it has a USB port for a Mp3 player, iPod would almost be worthless because you can't do playlists. It does have a optical and coaxial input in which the quality sounds pretty good. The Subwoofer has some good bass though. There are ample inputs for someone who does not have a while lot of components, or someone who uses a TV audio out for all of their audio. Definitely not worth the $79.99 that is being offered by Woot. n

WHAT????I lost my signature, oh well.

All right, I don't know if I'm gettin' one, 'cause I don't trust this Woot addiction thing I feel coming on, and I still like the one speaker that works on my 24 year-old Sylvania TV. If I WAS going to buy one, though I'd want to know the frequency response: 20Hz-20kHz frequency response, per RCA (silly Woot writers). Second, I'd want to know what other people's experience had been. Amazon link:
http://www.amazon.com/review/product/B000P6J79E/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?%5Fencoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 Apparently, they think it's OK except that the volume it can achieve from external sources (like the DVD player) is a little weak. Sounds like an OK to good system for a LR/FR not any good in a "great room"

I listen to a 1200 watt system every day. (conservatively estimated wattage, it claims to be over 1600, but it's not) It kicks ass. Now, I don't listen to it outputting 1200 watts, that would hurt.

Things like this woot! are worse than my TV speakers. Why would you want to downgrade from those?

I purchased one about a month ago for $150 from Walmart. I needed the amp (not the speakers) to replace in an already installed system that went out. It "does the job". The speakers are in storage. The amp is very lite-weighted. Actually I did used the powered sub woofer. If it gets me through a year I will be happy. By the way, the one that went out was an RCA that cost about$500. I guess I had not learned my lesson. For $80 I may purchase another to install my sauna room. Oh........ the thumdrive input on the front is an added bonus.

I am a redneck audiophile snob - I still have a 1996 GE tv, and 2005 Phillips DVD player with a 2001 Sanyo VCR --- this complements my top of the line home video system perfectly.

I also believe Cheezwhiz goes perfect with a good screwcap bottle of 2007 Riunite D'oro wine.

Take that you elitists.

Yeah, you have to pay for quality, but life is way too short to listen to cheap audio gear. Buy used good stuff on E-Bay if yer strapped, instead of refurbished junque. Meh, I'm done. G'night. 200-300 watts? Most HTIB systems are honestly closer to 20 - 30 watts TOTAL. Most people don't realize that 99.99999% of the time (yes, I made that stat up), most people listen to their music at a 1 watt level or less - which is still a lot louder than you'd think.

The published AM tuner specification
"Frequency Response: 2kHz +/-6dB, 1kHz ref."
is worse than even any handheld transistor radio that I've ever seen! Either this is a typo or this has the worst AM tuner on record. For reference, this is even worse than your telephone audio reproduction!

I'll give this unit a thumbs down.

I have never had any problems with RCA, I have a RCA surround sound, think its only 300watts, its not the best, but a hell of a lot better then some I have heard, and mine being 300wats is loud, couldn't imagine 1000watts and for only $79

I got this on a woot-off a while back. We are very pleased, not too loud but for a 12'x14' room we rarely turn it up more than halfway anyway, so good enough for us. Sounds good, the subwoofer is great.

I was surprised when I opened the box, as I was expecting a ref-urb to have some sign of use, but this looked brand new.

Bought another one today.

5.1 means 5 speaks and a sub woofer....7.1 means 7 speakers and a sub woofer2.1 is 2 speakers and a sub woofer....

Dolby digital is a sound standard by Dolby Laboratory's, it supports 5.1 surround sound....
