I bought a Sansa e2?? something for in November. I made sure to never ever install the drivers or other software that came with it. I use it like a flash drive and it played the MP3 files I put on it without a problem.

Something happened over xmas break and now windows complains that I can't put *.ZIP or *.TXT files on the device because "that's not allowed". Does anyone know how to make windows stop this pancakes so I can keep putting files on it?

The only way I can make it work is to name files *.MP3, then name them back once their on the device but that's a pain.

Bought this during the pre-Christmas woot-off for my 7 year old for Christmas...she loves it, and it was damned easy to load, and is damned easy to use.

There is a slight chance you might get the e260R Rhapsody version, some people have reported getting the 2gb Rhapsody version.

ALL 3 of my e260 models from a previous w00t were standard 'non-Rhapsody' e260 versions...

I purchased this last time, and I LOVE IT. I use rhapsody and it is SO EASY. The battery lasts forever and the sound is great. I like it so much, that I purchase the 2gb for my mom for Christmas. It is expandable with a micro SD card (You can get a no frills one on buy.com for around $10 at least once a week). The pictures look great on this, though as someone mentioned, I do wish there were a sleep timer. On the other hand, I have 2 Sansa Clips for my kids and I HATE them. They are constantly needing to be wiped and reloaded. I can't stand them, and I paid for each one of those, more than I paid for my 4gb E on Woot!
As far as the refurb (rox0rz!) sticker goes, its really not that big of a deal. I love mine so much that I say they can write it across the front of mine, and I could care less. Try to find one anywhere near this price...you won't...so I say deal with the sticker. It's nothing that a $5 Ebayed silicone case can't cure. I think it's a great buy! Enjoy!

Sounds like your USB settings have changes, go to SETTINGS/USB Mode, and choose the other option, scroll up or down, or arrow up/down to choose. I bet the player is set to MTP mode, (shows in Windows as 'Portable Device'), if you change it back to MSC, it will show up as a 'flash drive', require two drive letters, one for the player, the other for the microSD slot...

IF this is not the problem, I am not sure what the problem would be.

I purchased one of these in December. It never worked right. The menu buttons wouldn't work. I couldn't even shut it off. Woot immediately sent me a second unit, which I requested instead of a refund. That unit came on December 26th with the same exact problem. Now that one is stuck on the radio and the menu buttons will not work. I immediately contacted Woot for a refund, but haven't heard back.

I did get one of the 2 GB units and haven't had any problems. It's a great unit, if you can get one that works.

I bought the 2g one in an earlier woot, loved it, then the 4g version came up last time, so got it and gave the other to my wife. love them both. I was going to get the mem. stick for the 2g one, but then this came along so I didn't, but that's another way to increase the capacity. Here's a link

I bought one before Christmas (for myself) and it works great! You have to use the media conveter software for video & photos, which has worked well for me. Great MP3 player for a really great price = two thumbs up!

One note. You can only put music on the memory card, not video.

Anyone hoping they get teh 8GB in soon?

Got a 2GB for my wife and a 4GB for my 14 year old so he'd have the video capability. I bought both from Woot, and both were refurb (rox0rz!) units. I tried putting rockbox on the 2gb and had problems (it was a Rhapsody branded unit, and I didn't want the Rhapsody stuff on there). that did not go well. I called the Sandisk helpline, and they were VERY helpful, even while acknowledging that by trying to put Rockbox on, I had pretty much voided any warranty. They still helped me get back to the default software state. So my experience with their helpline was solid.

this unit recharges through the USB connection -- there is a wall outlet recharger, but it's a separate purchase, not in the box. The charge seems to hold for quite a while.

the FM tuner is GREAT.

As for the media converter, that is an incredibly cumbersome step, but it does work. What happens is that the program usually doesn't recognize the player, so it says that it can't finish the process. But that really just means that it can't load it onto the player that it doesn't recognize. the converted media is sitting in a folder on the hard-drive and can be loaded yourself by simply putting the converted file into the video folder on the player. Once there, the video plays nicely. I really don't know what's up with having to use the converter -- it seems to put them in an avi format, but it's larger than the original avi file before conversion, so who knows what it's adding to the file. but once it's converted, it does work, even if the software says the process failed.

Bad user interface, bad software, but still a great little player.

I bought this WOOT a month or so ago and love the device. It arrived as expected, prompt, etc. Works like a champ. Even thru Black Friday and the Holiday period I was never able to find the Sandisk e260 for any cheaper. I'm happy that I Woot'd when I did.

I have picked up about 10 of these from woot. have 2,4,6 gig models.
Update the firmware and they work great. Long battery life. Easy to load music by drag and drop onto drive letter. Photos and video take abit more work with Conversion utility. Program is not very efficient. Video files are huge. Other then size the video and pics play and look great. Charger cord is usb and propritary so no cheap replacement. Layout of control options and buttons is very good. The only problem i have is that it took me a little research online to make a playlist.( I used winamp). I found the easy way foi me was to make a fold of music that I wanted in a play list. Drag the folder into the music dirctory of the sansa then open the music folder you have on your PC in win amp save as a play list and right click on the play list and you will see the option to sen dto...select sansa and watch the player for the write function to kick in. If you have files on the play list that arnt on the sansa it wont work. This player is the best bang for the buck i have seen. I have walked on it, dropped it and had my children toss them around.

My DH ordered one of these from Woot and gave it to me as a Christmas present. Too bad it did not work out of the box. However, after some trouble-shooting over the phone, SanDisk gave me a postage paid RMA and is supposed to replace it. I'm expecting it sometime this week - keeping my fingers crossed!

Actually works wonderfully with Linux once you install RockBox at RockBox.org. Picking up my second. Plays mp2s/mp3s/oggs with drag and drop plus it takes microSD (tested with 2G - works wonderfully). Highly recommended - RockBox is great!

The Rockbox adds games and some features, but it really looks horrible compared to the firmware that is included. Stick with the Sansa firmware unless you care about adding a bunch of useless games.

You can, but you have to burn them to another CD and name them yourself and rip them to the softwre your using.

...or if you want to enable microSDHC support...or natively view images and video without going through a converter...or...well here is it from RockBox:

Rockbox for the SanDisk Sansa c200, e200 and e200R series features a large amount of plugins (games, applications and "demos") allow you to have some fun when you're bored, or put one of our multiple applications to use: open files with the text viewer, time yourself with the stopwatch, view some JPEG photos, perhaps watch a video or two, or turn your Sansa into a desktop clock with the clock plugin. Support for microSDHC cards, On-The-Go playlist creation and adjustment, full file bookmarking support, and Recording with a variety of settings and features are more key points of Rockbox for the Sansa c200 and e200 series.

ETA: I should also add that you can setup RockBox to also boot into the original firmware by powering on the unit while holding the << button.

This mp3 layer works great. The problem I have had was the headphones crapped out on me after about a month. Other than that, the thing works great and it is nice to have the ability to put the mini sd cards in it as well.

I would buy one, but I already have two of the 2 GB kind. Still.. anyone who wants to take advantage of Amazon.com mp3 service without DRM would find this a welcome addition. I love my e250 player. The battery lasts quite a long time, and the player does more than play music.

Question: Does anyone know how to get the microSD slot to wok? I just bought 2GB of MicroSD, but haven't figured how to make it work once I insert the memory. Thanks.

It does come with the word refurb (rox0rz!) engraved on the back cover. I just switched the back cover of my original with the back cover of the one I gave my daughter. Just so she won't know how cheap I really am. ;-}

Doh! It does come off, I thought it was freakin engraved!

Well, unless you get screwed with a V2 unit (same model number, different hardware). I didn't see "audible" anywhere in the description, though, so you're probably okay.

The connector port on the palyer itself is Sandisk specific. Obviously the computer end is a standard USB, but you need the proprietary cable made by Sansa to connect it. It is my only (albeit very minor) complaint about mine. With Rockbox installed, this is hands down one of the best and most capable devices on the market.

On a side note for those that buy this: As tempting as it is, DO NOT connect this player to ipod specific speakers and accessories. The ports look similar in size, but the electrical difference will cause some sparks and fry the port on your player.

And download a better video converter. The Sandisk one is a piece of crap. The Rockbox website has links to a converter that has preinstalled settings for converting video.

At least when you have Rockbox installed, the microSD card just shows up as another drive on the computer. You just drag and drop like the player itself (if you use that mode) then the files show up on a <microSD> folder on the player.

Got wife this 4GB version, and now a refurbed 8GB version. A couple of thoughts based on experience here. First, you can only expand them by NO MORE THAN 2GB with the expansion slot (this according to the manual). Second, the two we have freeze up on an irregular basis when you turn them on. Apparently corrupted mp3 files can freeze the unit when it goes through "updating database" each time it powers up. Third, battery life is INCREDIBLE. Wife has left hers in the car, playing, overnight on several occasions after coming home from work. The unit had over 2/3 of its juice left the next day. My adivce: Get familiar with the Sandisk tech support website and user groups.
