4gigs. Fifty bucks. Nice. I got a 30gig Zune a while back for 85, however. After the Zune, all my other mp3 players just stay home, neglected.

Actually, the refurbished stickers (each letter is it's own) came off with a fingernail. Failing that, a lot of people have used a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. You can't tell mine was ever there.

By needing to reformat all of the photos and video into its own codec, it is Sandisk and not Apple who is not adopting 3rd party standards. The problem seems to lie in that Sandisk unfortunately does not create a version of its transcoder software for anything but the proprietary Microsoft monopoly. Anybody out there actually HAVE a Mac and use one of these? You could get it done through bootcamp or Parallels but seems a bit of a bother for a daily task. Does Rockbox work with Mac?

It takes about thirty seconds to download and install themes and other graphics for Rockbox. The standard rockbox look is terrible, but there are a LOT of user-designed themes to make it look a lot better.

Yep. I got the e250 player earlier. Rockbox rules for this.

Get rockbox. Get a good looking theme. Get WinFF and the rockbox config file for for WinFF. Converting video files for it then becomes easy ... and WinFF conversion will make all the DRM crap vanish.

Bought this the last time it was offered. Dec 2007. This MP3 player rocks! I also bought a 2GB micro SD card to go with it...now I have 6GB of music. Works like a charm. Great purchase. Yes, it is NOT a perfect device, but it works well for my needs. Highly recommend that you buy it!

From the Rockbox online manual:

Prebuilt binaries for Windows, Linux and MacOS X are available from http://download.rockbox.org/rbutil/. As Rockbox Utility is still under development more information including up-to-date download links can be found at RockboxUtility.

Convert video files to standard non-DRM formats rockbox has codecs for, load them in like a standard USB drive, and call it done.

Rockbox doesn't do DRM-laden Rhapsody ... but you probably don't want that anyway.

I got one of these a while back...with rockbox its an awesome player...but mine isnt a R E F U R B, mine was a R F F U R B...so mabey its different, jejeje.. but seriously, great product, its got style, good playback, etc, the included earbuds are absolute garbage, but once i got a pair of SENNHEISER CX300's, it has GREAT audio quality... grab this gem if ya got enough tech savy to install rockbox (its genereally easier then updateing the firmware) totally worth $55, one thing though ... GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR RIGHT AWAY!!!, these things will scratch if ya touch them with anything harder then a perfectly clean lense cloth... im not exagerating, they scratch SUPER easy... ive never seen anything that scratched this easy.. but once ya get a good screen protector your golden

I bought mine last month and am happy with it. It is the first player I have owned or ever used. I use it strictly for podcasts (although I have a Willie album on there). I organize and auto download in iTunes but load the player by dragging and dropping through Explorer. It has frozen on me once when I was a little rushed and did not permit it to finish updating the writing to disk. Holding the power button on for 15-20 seconds took care of that.

Binary Fortress has a program called iTunes Sync which I plan to try in the near future although as I say, so far the drag and drop has not been a problem

If I had my druthers, the volume control would be on the side but I can live with this and the price was right.

Great lil player for the bucks. I Woot'd me two on the last Sansa Woot, one for me and one for the whiff. Both looked brand new, no problems on the shipping both came pretty quick and with buds, cable and CD. Rockboxed mine and it is super simple, takes a bit to master it, but very nice none the less. GUI as is, is straight forward simple to use. A few items you may want to consider when Wooting one....

1) headphones - the Philip's Surround Sound buds ( Burninate long eBay links!
are very nice for the price ($14 @ Wally world, $20 else where, if you Useless posts. Please delete! to eBay 'em)

2) A car charge kit and skin This is the one I purchased from this seller and they wee fast and the product was decent for the price. It is worth the price just for the silicone skin. Yup, this one too.

3) An FM transmitter, tons on eBay...

4) A Griffin Charging dock, plus it has sound out to plug-in a set comp speakers or others. But a 2.1 set of comp speakers sound nice for the office. The dock is $8 at BestBuy.

The FM radio works well, as stated from others battery life is A+
Videos are crisp and OK to watch if you were bored waiting for a plane or on a plane or the such.

ENJOY!

Rockbox will "sorta kinda" work with a Mac, but (as a longtime Mac user) I eventually gave up on this player and Rockbox. You MUST have access to a Windoze machine (or virtual version) to modify every file going into this player, including photos and movies. And even then, using Rockbox as the interface was about as satisfying as looking at the screen of an ATM machine. There were also firmware problems that kept the Mac from recognizing that the player was even plugged in much of the time. This is probably a great player for Windows users, but a complete pain in the keester for the Mac. I eventually, humbly, admitted defeat and sent it back.

The software actually creates a file where the video is rotated 90 degrees so it plays in widescreen on your player. If you open the converted file, you can tell what the conversion process actually did. It will play in Quicktime the same as the original, just rotated to the right 90 degrees. I have never had a problem with the software or conversion process.

I was looking for a flash-based mp3+video player, and I bought this one after I learned about Rockbox. I'm very happy with how much more functionality is available. In fact, I bought 4 more of the 2gb ones for my niece and nephews for Christmas... they really liked them. (Don't tell them I scraped off the "refurb (rox0rz!)" stickers.)

refurb (rox0rz!) ? why did roxorz get inserted into my post?

Same price I paid for the 2GHz model from Woot a month ago. Oh wells.

One big got'cha on the refurb (rox0rz!). Unit will not recharge the battery from the USB. I had to make a holder for the battery and take it out to charge it.

Nah, I had the E250 and the "R" of the refurb (rox0rz!) came off with only a little fingernail work. I bet you could pop them all off as they are only stickers. If you really want it off try warming it up with a hair dryer first.

I bought two of the 2GB version offered a while back. They were refurbs, too. The first one died within a week. The second one is still working, but I've had to re-boot it (holding down the power button for 10 seconds) a couple times already from locking up. I don't trust these refurbs.

I can verify that the refurb (rox0rz!) stickers come off. They are individual letters, and they do in fact come off with a little work. I bought 2 last time they were on, and they've been great! They are Rockboxable, and I thoroughly recommend installing it because then you can watch MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 instead of having to use the .mov with the non-standard frame rate and funky codec. Not to mention the dozens of games that come with it (including Gameboy emulator and Doom!)...

In fact, I'm watching a YouTube video on it right now.

Anyone comment on the FM radio capabilities? I would like to use this in Portland, OR to listen to NPR and the station here (91.5) is difficult to tune in sometimes...

Also for those that have the wifi version (I know it's more). Is there ANY way to get it to play sirius streams? (yes I have a subscription to sirius)

Thanks!

I use windows media player to add playlists to mine. I'm not an expert on doing it, but if I add the music from my pc to the playlist, then sync with device, if the tracks are already on the sansa, it does not reload them, but gives msg "already on device" but it does add the playlist. I also have an older sansa 1 gb m240 that has playlists on it I've loaded via media player as well, both working fine

Have this player (and paid over twice as much for it) and it ROCKS!! Much better overall player than the i-Puds and expandable. I have both a 1gb and 2gb microsd card to swap out music with....sweet!!

Contrary to what some have said above, this model DOES use Rockbox and it's easy to switch between that and the original interface.

Get this.....you'll love it!!

no matter where you go....there you are!
