Yeah, set up a Dual-boot with WIN2000 and one of any flavors of Linux. Then run Linux all the time and use Amarok (jukebox/music management software) to load the music, or just drag and drop files.

I really like this player EXCEPT when you first start it up and it has to "Refresh Database"......... a process that seemingly takes forever when you have a MicroSD card installed. Only way that I have found to avoid this most annoying 'feature' is to use Rockbox. Has anyone had any luck speeding this process up or at least bypassing it after an initial scan when you have just updated the player? Also, I do believe that using Rockbox you can avoid the 2GB limitation on the MicroSD card.

Nice player for the money. I've actually 'watched' movies on mine while waiting in line, etc.

I bought the 2Gb version a few months back on woot. Wierd thing is, even after i cleared off all the useless stuff that was on there it still only shows 900 Mb of free memory and says over 1 GB is used.. Any thoughts? I realize it needs some memory for operation but a full gig seems excessive

Have you checked the playlists? I had over a gig of stuff in preloaded playlists. The only way I was able to get them off was to load Rhapsody and use that, (since they were Rhapsody playlists). Hope this helps.

yea i have had the Sandisk Sansa e260 4GB Media Player for a while now and pretty much fully explored most of the aspects of it and it for sure the best mp3 player i have ever owned hands down.

You can convert audible files to playable, usable MP3's. Just google "convert audible file" and you will see many oftions. I have used both Goldwave and "All music converter" and like both of them... I also used another program "Cool MP3 splitter" to split up very large books on tape into multiple files so I don't have to use all my disk space on one or two complete books... I can split them up & only download what I wil listen to for the next few days.

I have the e280 with Rockbox and switched the USB mode so it just mounts as an external drive. Copy the music over and you're ready to roll. Still need to build a database when you change your music, but it doesn't take nearly as long as the Sansa software. Also, if for any reason you don't like Rockbox or want to use the Sansa interface, you can always boot back to the original (read the Rockbox FAQ!).

If I needed another or knew a friend who wanted/needed one, I'd definitely suggest the Sansa.

I bought this in the beginning of December & it didn't last one day! It did the same thing my little Sandisk did last year, it froze until the battery ran out. I would recharge it & we would go through the same thing until I bought a Zune.

the best way to do the movies is to get the new DVDFABHD platinium, which has a function to load movies on ipods, zune and generic players, I have read other reviews on the sandisk sansa e260 media player which had a lot more pros than cons seams like an awesome deal to me.

This is an EXCELLENT deal for anyone looking for a nice MP3 player at a low price. My e250 has to be one of my favorite Woots! If only my wife would be interested in one, I would give her my e250, and buy one of these e260's.

At any rate, they are super easy to use, and are nice and compact. For a few bucks on eBay, I even added a 2gig microSD card, rubber protective cover, and an arm strap for working out.

Don't hesitate, BUY IT!

Gotta say, I bought one last time around and it crashes about half the time when I turn it on, requiring that I let the battery die before I can recharge it and reboot it. When it works, it's swell, but it's been pretty reliably unreliable for me.

I got the same one from bestbuy for $119, my daughter loves it. I am waiting for a 16g video player from sansa, or a 30 g Zune. Ill hold my breath and wait it out.

They really must have a gotten a ton of these - this is has been wooted at least 4 times in the last couple of months - I did previously buy 2 of them as gifts - decent deal and the recipients were very appreciative. Sounds good, easy to use and good features.

Here is why the 4GB are on "closeout." But if you want a higher capacity Sansa, it's gonna cost you, big time. This Woot is more than enough for me. That 32GB Sansa is sweet though.

If you already know this, disregard -- just "reply" to the message that has the oddball word you're interested in and you can see the "original" word or phrase.

The word replacements change from time to time :-P

I second everything said, except we bought two, and one had a crappy phono jack. It's refurb (rox0rz!) so Sansa will send you back to Woot if you've got hardware problems.

So, the USB cable does work with Linux, then? I just want to make sure, because, even though I can dual-boot, I'd really rather not use Windows anymore.

Apparently, it's only designed to use up to 2gb SD cards, but if you go to www.rockbox.com and use their software, it will tell you how to expand them. Check their FAQ's.

If anyone is worried about the refurb (rox0rz!)..letters on the back, I went over them with a little goo gone, then a single edge razor blade (think paint scraper) and then a little more effort with the goo gone and it looks great-no more letters. Bought 2 of the 2 gig ones and a couple sd micro cards for $14 each and have nice capacity players. These are very nice-great display and size, too bad there are a zillion of them refurbed-must have been some QA issue at some point. Accessories are plentiful and cheap-and you won't feel so bad of something happens to one of these instead of a $200 ipod.

who do you deal with in the event of a defective unit? Sandisk?

I dunno personally. I've heard that titanium is an alloy that is employed extensively in the military.

I think the Zen V Plus has slightly better sound quality. And it has a nice bookmarking function.

But the Sansa has the micro SD card slot for expansion and the video capability is better.

Titanium, alone, is strong, but not too strong. It's titanium alloy that's real strong (it's the stuff used in aerospace missions).

Woot gives a 90 day warranty. After that, approach Sandisk.
