I got this on sellout a while back. The tools are made in China and are really cheap/poor quality. Would not recommend.

[French accent] "You see, we've already got one, it's very nicea"

Bought 3 last woot, shared the extras with family, nice and compact.

If I remember from the last time these were offered the jumper cables are so shabby that they won't conduct the voltage needed to make a successful jump. I'm just sayin'.

Bought 3 and have them in both my cars. Used the pliars once, but luckily haven't had any real need for it yet!

I got one on sellout. Haven't had a need to use it yet, but I think it was more expensive then. Sorry that's not more helpful.

Can I use these to change a tire?

Is this kit any good, or are those the cables that were described a while ago as being so bad they would melt the first time they were used?

skippyatuw wrote:Just in case this is ever sold again, this is a HUGE pile of crap. The screwdriver handle cracked the first time I tried to use it and the jumper cables are so thin that you'd have to be driving a yugo to get any use out of them. Save your cash.

Pretty flimsy looking jumper cables.I would not trust them.

I have one of these from the last time it was up for sale. It has come in handy so far. I love it.

I got this for around the same price on a clearance sale at Checker Auto a months ago. The kit seems like it might have some useful parts, but I did have to use the jumper cables at one point, and they would not work at all. Had to run to my truck and find my trusty 6-gauge jumper cables instead. : /

I bought this last time it was on woot. My car hasn't broken down or needed it since. Strongly Recommended!

In for one. Going to be driving all over the place in a few weeks, so I figure it could be nice to have. Even if they aren't the greatest quality, it'll be worth every penny if it can get me out of even one tight spot.

DO NOT BUY very cheap. will fall apart. the jumper cables are as thin as your mouse cord.

where is the reflective triangle? where is the flare?

a good roadside kit should include something reflective or lit up so it is visible at night to give advance warning to other motorists so they don't hit you while you are trying to change the tire or whatever you are doing.

that small electrical tape is not going to help you. if you spring a leak in a radiator hose you will need some duct tape and some water or coolant.

if you have a flat tire, a bottle of fix a flat will help you more than anything in that kit.

if you have a flat tire and your spare tire is also flat and you don't want to get all that plasticine from the bottle of fix a flat all over the inside of a tire, a manual or automatic pump that runs off the 12v - cigarette lighter adapter will help far more than that kit.

although this kit costs almost nothing, i think for what you get it is overpriced!

and woot, if you really are concerned about our well being if we get a flat, how about finding us a real motorist in trouble kit?

I got a couple of these before during the last time they were on woot.

The jumper cables are extremely thin, cheap feeling. Gloves would protect you from getting burned, for about 5 seconds until they burn through.

It's an O.K. kit for the price. Made in China though (my entire family have changed to nothing made in China - and that's extremely hard!)

Usually the jumper cables included in these kits are pretty much worthless on jumping a dead battery, good cables makes a world of difference.

I bought the 45 piece Halberd roadside tool kit from woot ($10.99) back in October and I have to say it's pretty much worthless. The plastic is the really super cheap kind that smells like burnt rubber and feels like it's burning/infecting your skin when you touch it.

Everything was flimsy and not something you'd ever seriously consider using, and would probably curse yourself for packing in case of real emergencies if one should arise.

What I'm saying is.....there's a reason why it's dirt cheap. Waste your money on a couple lattes instead.

Who said weak? The tape and the fuses are worth the 13 bucks. Who said that, may you car be stuck on the side of the road in the dead on winter, 10 below and and the only car that stops for you, had no jumper cables. ... smile

I agree! Spend a few $$$ more and buy Craftsman or better yet, Snap-On. I bought one of these cheap ASIAN sets before and I will never make the same mistake again.

Just remember, cheap crap is just not worth it at any price if you want the tool set to last for years...

You are right, get some decent cables and basic tools along with some flares, put em in a plastic bag under seat or in trunk

Ok genious thericochet, you are saying the jumper cables would not work? In that you would be wrong. This is not quantum mechanics, jumper cables are simple and only need to work once in a blue moon and these would work, they have wire, red for postive and black for negative.. are you still with me on this... *big laugh*1

Come on!!! Where's your sense of adventure??

I drive an '88 lincoln (it's white, like smog) These cables would never reach from my battery to another car. Maybe I could set a prius inside of the engine compartment to get it close enough....

My sig was too long

What the hell are you talking about? I said nothing about jumper cables.."genious". I'm simply commenting on the quality of another toolkit from the same company. "Genious".

Please don't waste the trunk space toting this kit around. If you already bought the kit, then take my advice. Put the fuses in your glovebox (assuming they are the same type your car uses) along with the gloves and the electrical tape. Fuses can always be handy, and the gloves might keep you warm when you run out of gas. The electrical tape has 1000s of uses. Now, throw the rest of the crap away. If you have the mechanical ability to use the remaining tools, you will realize that these are NOT the ones you should trust in an emergency. Besides, if you can actually remove/install a nut/bolt with this nut driver set, then said nut has no bearing on your getting home safely. The jumper cables will do nothing outside of aggravating a nice person who offers to give you a jump. You have a better chance getting your car started by pounding your fists on the steering wheel and cursing than by using the cables in this kit.

The Bob Dylan references in the description rock, but the tool kit vacuums, no thanks.

Do you all think the Chinese run their country with the items they make? It would be truly amazing if they did...

Do you think they spelled G A U G E three different ways on purpose in the product description? Maybe it's a joke on butchering the English language because these are made in China. Dunno.

Uh, hazard lights? You know, those things that blink like you're turning left and right at the same time.

From personal experience:

I unsuccessfully used the booster cable to start an Acura MDX. The cables are too small to conduct enough juice. You might have better luck drinking Amp and boosting your car like that Super Bowl commercial. Fortunately, someone loaned me their 8 gauge booster cable which did the trick.

In summary, I wouldnt depend on this thing in an emergency.
