Agree with you on this. I get the feeling that people that come up with excuses, whether it be what a salesman told them or it damages your inner ear, are just allergic to doing housework. Those type of people generally have messy houses. I, on the other hand, do have a Dyson bought here from Woot. You can come over to see how clean my house is at anytime. Oh, and I forgot to mention, I still have carpet and it does no more "damage" than any other vacuum I have had. I actually like to vacuum when I use this thing. It simply vacuums.

Been waiting for one of these. I usually check woot first thing in the morning and am disheartened when I see the Dyson sold out. F'n A. Just ordered one!!

I'm not allergic to housework, I actually have my Sellout.Woot roombas set to go every day, AND I vacuum 3 times a week. I just want my carpet to last.

Whole House Vacuum? Do you have or know of one you like?

I'm moving into an old old house with a basement and room for a whole house
vacuum which I'm considering building and installing myself. Being an engineer
it's pretty straightforward and I like the idea of not having to worry about

1. noise
2. dust in the house
3. - little dust pan areas can be neat - you sweep dirt into the hole and hit the button
it's gone.

4. as an engineer I'm thinking even that it might help as a kind of 'whole house fan'
although don't take my comment too seriously. A real house fan is the right thing to have.

Has anyone here got a whole house vacuum and did you install it yourself and do you
like it? Any downside? Have you noticed any cost increase of energy?

Thanks and enjoy s ucking up the dirt - Andre

My mother had her rainbow for over 25 years; we had no indoor pets and she used it at least twice a week, if not 3 times. I got one and it lasted about 5 years; 2 dogs/3 cats, using it twice a week myself. Blew the motor and never could find anyone in the area to service it. Maintenance wise, I would go with the dyson; dry bin, no water, and the suction is equal to or better than the rainbow, depending on the model you get. The pet model, is better. You will be giving up a few of the bells & whistles of the rainbow if you have the complete package, but if you are tired of the messy water, or need something you can whip out and use quickly, then store without worrying about cleaning until the guests leave, this is your vac. Service options are a little better, but there still are not as many vacume places that service the dyson either.

I bought one about a year ago now from Woot and it really works great!!! (was called the "full kit" then) I have the mini-turbine as well and it has done wonders on the stairs and freshens up the couch cushions.

I know it's cliché but I swear I vacuumed my house (~1600sqft) with my old vac (Kenmore) with a new bag, even went over it twice. I then took my shiny new (respiffied'd) Dyson and proceeded to fill the bin completely on each floor (2), and yet again with the mini-turbine on the stairs.

It's fine on my Berber, (although in one instance It did catch a loose thread and pulled up about an inch of it,) and to all those of you thinking it will void warranty on carpets, you're being misled. Ask yourself, how would they *know* what kind of vacuum you've used? Also, the "beating" your talking about comes only from the suction that does the cleaning. I've compared side by side and the beater bars don't *beat* any harder than the Kenmore or Bissell I have since laid to rest.

If you're on the fence, go ahead and hit the button. I haven't ever had a second thought and have even made believers out of the 2 friends who have tried it for themselves.

This isn't the new "ball" version that can actually turn around corners. In other words, it only wants to be pushed in a straight line. However, it may work well in a movie theater to pick up the popcorn and ABC (Already Been Chewed) gum in the isles when traveling in a straight line...

My wife and I had one for a couple years - the DC14 Animal. We're getting a divorce, so I just bought a Bissell with cyclonic whatever you want to call it. It was $250 at Bed Bath & Beyond, and I had a 20% off coupon from the newspaper. $200 before taxes. If you look them up on Consumer Reports, you'll find that the Bissell beat the Dyson in their overall scores. Not by a lot, but it beat it. For the money, I like the brand new Bissell over the Dyson, even though we loved our Dyson. This one works just as well.

If we needed a new one, I'd be all over this... we bought our Dyson DC-7 (the original yellow one) four years ago and it works as well now as it did the first day we bought it... and it gets used everyday to vacuum a 2500 sqft house...

I recommend this vac to everyone!

Is there any advantage to having a bagless vs. bag type vac? I would intertain one like this, but my wife seems to not be to fond of the bagless type vacs (and I don't mean that I would buy this as a gift for my wife, ok. 'Cause I vacuum to...occasionally).

There were about three parts that simply snapped into place aside from the hose. It's pretty straight-forward and gives you a better idea of how/what to check *should* it become clogged at all or if you're anal and like to clean it out from time to time as I do. ;)

In for 1. My mom had just used my brothers and remarked how much better it did then her old kirby. (which missed ALL of the cat hair you couldnt' even see, but the dyson magically finds it all she was impressed and she's hard to impress over he old ways).

2 things increase the life of your carpet.

The padding you put under it, and the vacuum you use on top of it.

You have to vacuum often with a good vac to keep the dirt and sand from getting under the carpet.
Once the dirt goes through the carpet then it acts like sand paper on the carpet backing and wears the carpet out from the bottom.
If you use a cheap padding then the carpet gets crushed from the top by foot traffic.

Does anyone have an idea what those two attachments are that are pictured in the upper right corner? They sort-of look like extensions but I cannot seem to find anything out about them. I'm just curious if I'm missing out on some neat new tools.

as I said, I have this same make and model.
all 3 of my house carpets and rugs are just fine

and before you ask....
1. is the house carpet...it's off white....and came with the house
2. is the Uni.ofWA carpet in my office/den (you've seen em looks like a football field).
3. is the carpet in the guest room (fought my wife over this one.....obviously lost..but she agreed to let me have carpet #2..so it's kind of a win).

and the rugs by the front and back doors have given us no problems either.

NEVER AGAIN! We had a top-of-the-line Beam central vac and it's more hassle than convenience. You have the humidity (even low humidity) causing dust to cake in the pipes...and it's much easier to maneuver around a power cord than a 25 foot hose - not to mention how much of a pain it is to wrap up and store the hose each time. Also, you can count on being covered in a layer of dust when you take the bin out. It would be cheaper to just buy one of these or the Dyson ball (DC15 - I highly recommend it...the other ones have low low capacity) for each floor of your house.

Once you go bagless you'll never go back. It's great - only real maintenance is to clean the filter every couple of months or so.

Here's an old article that got me scared of Dysons, which actually talks about the DC14. Later testing with friends of mine proved that pretty much most Dysons, excluding the Animal (ball or no ball the Animal is *much* better than older Dysons after trying it out at a friend's), are decent vacs but cost way too much compared to others that can and do perform better. Talking to a few hair stylists in the area further proved the point. Although it is a very fancy looking vacuum, I can't really advise getting it unless you don't mind paying the extra 80-100 bucks for it (with the woot price in consideration). Look up Maytag and Kenmore vacs. They cost less and many of them are also bagless with a cleanable, reusable HEPA filter. I wish I could scan and post a copy of the consumer reports findings and articles regarding vacs, Dyson or not. It's pretty neat to see what they do to test all these things. I believe the most recent article even talked about 'staying power'.

The only Dyson really worth its price is the Animal DC07 (and ball) IMHO.

Some of you must have more money than sense. I've now seen three people who make reference to having one on each floor.

Are people really becoming that lazy that they cannot carry a (<20lb.) vacuum up or down a flight of stairs?
The handle is balanced just right and this is easy enough for my 60+ mother to carry one handed.

According to this review this model model is a Sam's Club version.
Main differences are gray color and the mattress attachment.

1. This will not "void your capret warrantee" whatever that means. A vacuumed carpet is cleaner. Dirt is what causes carpets to wear out.

2. Consumer Reports notes that the Dyson does not have the most suction. Of course, the Dyson does not claim to, it claims to MAINTAIN suction.

3. WHEN will Woot have the DC25 ball or Animal ball Dyson model on? Every night I click on, hoping for the Dyson ball, only to be disappointed by MP3 players or teased by other vacuum models!! However, I have got some nice T-shirts out of the deal. But still, this is beside the point. I hope the get that Dyson ball Woot soon!

I bought "The ball" the last time on Woot. Both my wife and I love it. It gets the carpets very clean.
Great vacuum!
Oh, and I of course got the rrrefurb. On mine they cut the hose short and the tube that attaches to the hose looks as if it had been through a war. Other than that works perfectly.
