Oh well, my current machine is sick, if not exactly dying. (Thanks for nothing, Consumer Reports.) So no time like the present.

Plus, I get to use my BOC4 consolation prize coupon to save 2%. Rather have those broken MP3 players and Texas air packs, honestly, but maybe next time....

Bought the DC 07 on the last Woot. Our cleaning lady loves it so much we're giving her ours as a housewarming gift and ordering the DC 14 for us on this Woot. I've had a bunch of different vacs (including Miele, Oreck, Electrolux, etc.) and the Dyson really outcleans them all! And emptying the cannister is soooo easy...

grimor wrote:in the "I vacuumed with _blank and then used _blank and look at all the dirt it missed" type of tests, they are mostly used as a marketing gimmick. No vacuum that I have ever seen will get all of the dirt from a carpet that has been installed for any length of time. So whichever vacuum you use last will most always seem to be the winner. Dirt sifts into the carpet and actually through it into the padding and floor underneath. Apart from pulling up the carpet there is very little that can be done to completely clean a carpet. Also, each vacuum pass breaks more fibers loose in the carpet and kicks up a bit more dust and dirt buried inside. This is not to say that some vacuums don't actually clean better than others, but this type of test is generally not a good way of proving the effectiveness of one over the other.

If you want to test it, vacuum your carpet with the dyson, clean it out completely and then go over the same carpet again. Look how much it missed! the Dyson is obviously superior to the Dyson lol

Absolutely true. However if one unit consistently picks up more than the other during regular use, then you've got a comparison.

just bought one while the logo was bouncing.
I have watched the comments on these things for a long time, and finally purchased. I hope I like mine as well as everyone else does. We have a panasonic that is terrible. We have had two panasonics prior that were good machines, but the newest one is awful. thanks for the comments.

The Dyson's are fantastic. We have a yellow lab so we give the Dyson a real run for its money. When we got it, we ran it in our living room right after running our Hoover Wind Tunnel. It picked up a ton of dirt and dog hair - actually quite scary how much.

What we do now is a deep Dyson vacuum once a week and run the Roomba (thanks wOOt!) the other days.

I have a DC15 - anyone know how different the DC14 is?

Well, since this Woot vacuums so much I had to go for another one. The DC07 from January ended up at my outlaws which also vacuums but differently....... Has anyone notice the color scheme on this looks like Woody Allen as the robot in that old movie (Sleeper?) with the Orgasmatron?

That being said, this vacuum is terrible. Its no different than a cheap $50 vacuum except you don't have to use a bag.. hell ,you can get $50 vacuums now that have attachments and no bag.

If you really care about the cleanliness of your house, you can buy a Kirby from Ebay for a few hundred more than this piece of junk. Kirbys in my opinion, are the only vacuums that actually do what we expect a vacuum to do, and thats pick up dirt.

I thouroughly disagree, I had a Bissel bagless before I bought my Dyson, the Dyson is MUCH better...there is only 1 fliter(lifetime) that needs tending to maybe once a month, not 3 like the Bissel, it's much quieter, has a nice length of cord, and it doesn't lose suction at all.
Those who asked about the belt, it does have a belt on the beater, it's supposed to be a lifetime belt...
As with most things, maintenance is required, the better you take care of something the longer it's going to last

Sure it'll clog. Done it myself. But the places where it clogs have nifty removable sections that clean out quickly. I've unclogged mine twice in six years.

Can someone explain me why they sell aftermarket replacement "lifetime" filter ?
If it's a lifetime filter, why does it need to be replaced ?

They not only sell these filters, but people actually buy them (look on eBay for example)

I could see a few reasons why you would want to buy one. If your dyson only came with the one inside, you could use one to swap while the one you just cleaned is drying so your dyson is always ready to go. You may of accidentally ruined yours by using some weird cleaner on it (Not sure if something like limeaway or varnish remover would work well for it) Some thieves might of stolen your filer while you took it out to be cleaned or your dog chewed it up.

These HEPA filters are washable but they take forever to dry. If you wash it and put it back wet it takes longer and if you turn on the vacuum while wet you just might have a HEPA decorated living room. Buy a second. Pull the dirty one, wash it and set to dry. Put the other in and your good to go.. A side benefit is you also double your life span. I thought about a third one but figured what my credit card bill would be in 3 lifetimes.....

I did not believe that about the carpet warranty being voided so I called Shaw carpet help line. I was given a link, www.carpet-rug.org/, where they do actually have a list of all the vacuum cleaners they ask you to use for their carpets. Dyson is not on the list and they could not tell my why. Oh well I will continue to use mine and enjoy it. It is a heck of a machine

My Wooted DC7 is the best vacuum I have ever had the pleasure to use. I also have a one hundred dollar Bissell, and it is pretty good as well, but not nearly as efficient as my Dyson which I got a few months ago. (the teal and grey one). It is fun to vacuum and see all my grey dead skin flakes fill up the bag. If you think about it, household "dust" is always grey. Wonder why? Because most of everything you vacuum up is dead skin. Gross, but true. That and dog hair in my case. Maybe some cosmic dust and street dust, but mostly my shed off dermal layers. That's why it's grey! Gross...Thanks for letting me see it get sucked up, Mr. Dyson.

I'll tell you why they have so many refurbished ones. It is because the motor gets burned out after a time. We had the $500.00 one for almost 3 years & had to have the motor replaced for $190.00. Six months later, it's back in the repair shop again. I told them if it is the motor again, to junk it. I do agree though that it is very good at picking up dirt, but to pay $500.00 for a vacuum that lasts only 3 years is highway robbery. Next time I will buy a cheap one that will last just as long. Actually if you people want a really good vacuum, check out the Sebo. Virtually the best vacuum on the market. I think it is only available in vacuum establishments.

Dyson's are carp. They don't clog because they don't suck anything up. Kirby's have the cubic feet per minute airflow equivalent of 2070 air watts. That's almost 10 times what this Dyson has.

According to http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictA.html :
air watt
an engineering unit used to express the effective cleaning power of a vacuum cleaner or central vacuum system. The air watt is practically the same as the ordinary watt. Measurements of vacuum power, however, are computed from English units using the following formula established by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM): power in air watts equals 0.117354·F·S, or very nearly F·S/8.5, where F is the air flow in the system in cubic feet per minute (CFM) and S is the suction pressure in inches of water column (in WC). This definition makes the air watt equal to 0.9983 watt.

You know not what you speak of. I had the same cynacal viewpoint and tried it in reverse with my ex-Bissell. The Bissell did NOT pick up too much at all behind the Dyson. In fact, I don't recall it picking up anything besides a small amount of carpet fuzz.

I'm also mildly OCD and have re-vacuumed the same room. It didn't out perform itself by filling back up. It only picked up a small amount of "fuzz" and not any dirt.

I think dyson vacumes only sell for so much because they ask so much. Americans are not very smart sometimes. If they walk into a store needing a vacuum and the sales person says hey, you need this vacuum here it is amazing it only cost $500 it is the greatest thing since sliced bread, they say "Wow I have to have that" then they go home and their neighbor who bought one says wow this thing is awsome because they are embarrised that they paied so much for it that they don't want to be the only ones, they talk you into it. The only vacuum i think is worth the money is the roomba because, while you are vacuuming, I can fire up the roomba and go do something else like have sex or something. Anyways just my thoughts, but, on the other hand every one I know tells me that this thing is the best thing since sliced bread.

I hate to break it to you but it will void texture retention warranties. I know this because i am a carpet inspector. I'm the guy they send to your house to look at your carpet if you have a claim. The carpet and rug institute has a seal of approval that they will put on vacuums. This is what the carpet mills trust to perform with their carpet since they are not in the vacuum making business. The research by CRI has shown this vacuum is too powerful. Not the beater bar but the suction. If you have loop or commercial carpet it should be fine. But a staple yarn or frieze carpet will be pulled and untwisted easily with Dyson vacuums.

I've seen the damage these vacuums can cause. Personally i think they work great if you have the right carpet with them. But if not, use at your own risk... and borrow your neighbors when i come to inspect your carpet, because i will be asking to see your vacuum,

Well I assume you are referring to the Roomba. My neighbor has a Roomba but after borrowing our Dyson that we got a month ago, she hated her Roomba. I told her about this woot and she purchased one of these.

I don't buy two of anything and I can't believe that I am pumped up about getting another Dyson for another floor in my home, but this is the best darn vacuum I have ever had and I have had every brand you can think of and the Dyson puts them to shame.

As far as carpet warranties people must have cheap carpet if it comes apart when vacuuming.
