Please go to:
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

I bought a couple of these last December. One caught on fire and burned the coffee table. I reported it to the consumer safety commission and they recalled them. Please check the consumer site. If you do keep your helicopter, please be real careful with children. In my opinion, these are very dangerous.

"I bought one of these at a Woot-Off a few months ago. When I was charging it the battery blew up and shot flames out of it. It was sort of cool to see but it didn't fly too well after that :P"

You should report that to the CPSC.gov

You could have been injured. I would report it there and to wOOt. I smell LIABILITY if it happened to a child especially. Yikes!

It sounds like a P.O.S. and glad it's sold out. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. Woot could be held responsible for selling them as well.

Sucky Woot, first time I've said that but tired of helicopters. I thought the woot owners were smarter than this.

I think it's the battery in these. Generally, some of these Chinese items have faulty wiring. When charging the current acts as a fuse of sorts and the battery cells or even the plastic ignites.

That's the real danger with Chinese products. Lots of hazardous stuff out there.

Shame on you woot... "

Dude, get a grip. Requiring a Buy.com purchase, setting up a Google Checkout account, and applying a $10 coupon is about as OK as Marsellus Wallace was after he spent time with the Gimp.

Basically, woot is offering it for $15, straigh-up, shipped, in contrast you propose Buy.com which is "giving it away" with a whole lot of strings attached - that's hardly free. I'll take the woot deal, you give all your vitals to Buy and Google for some shiny beads.

Do you also stop and get the new department store credit card every time the person with the clipboard approaches you at the store entrance with the promise of "$20 off any purchase if you sign up today?"

I bought one last night for myself, but decided to give it to my Dad for Father's Day instead (oops, should have gotten two). He loves remote control stuff AND harassing the dog and cat, so this should be perfect for him. Hopefully the battery won't short out and burn the house down!

The reason these things may go on fire is beacuse the battery inside the helicopter is lithium-polymer.

Lithium polymer batteries while amazingly small, aren't supposed to be discharged all the way. After one is discharged completely if you try to charge it again it will go on fire.

Well, it seems that the bulk of these have gone to Hawaii and Alaska. Lots of water in them parts to put out the flames. If we start seeing steam rising to the north or west - wooters will know what happened ;-)

Up, down, left, and right pretty much covers it, unless you are trying to use this to go back in time.

I am an RC hobbiest and have much experience with lipo batteries. The batteries these cheap helis come with CAN pose a fire hazard, but the risk is much less than with the lipo batteries that are used for the much larger and heavier models that we fly. Nevertheless, this newer technology needs to be watched carefully. Several tips:

If the battery swells, don't use it or charge it
Air inside the battery pack will cause it to heat up and possibly catch fire so don't damage the pack
Don't charge unsupervised, like in your car or out of sight

The CPSC gave comment on these cheap helis recently http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/08189.html

Lastly, go on youtube and do a search for "lipo fire"

I got mine today too. Was flying alright for a while, but I just cant figure out how to charge this thing. The instructions are translated I could tell, so it seems very foggy.

I plug the cable in the socket of the helicopter, and the green light doesnt turn on. the helicopter is off aswell. What should I do?

ferris1003

quality posts: 0 Private Messages ferris1003

Just plug it in with the remote and helicopter off and turn the controller on. The green and red lights will come on and it'll charge. I just got done playing with it outside :X... flew up about 15', wind got it and went straight into the pool! Took it out, and it was still flying like new! Amazing! I dried it off and it's still charging and functioning

Got Mine on Saturday! They are kick ass, though I have no idea how to control them. Instructions suck.

The wife keeps calling me Bruce Jenner for some reason. ;-)

One day I hope to learn how to control them a bit better.

I ordered 2, Woot only sent me 1. What gives?
The packing label clearly states "2", but the box its packed in is only suitable for one. Here comes my "strongly worded email"....

Got mine back on May 9th...... still waiting for the 2nd one to arrive.... Kinda hard to fly... the range is not far at all on mine..... though the email I got said:

"Your order may contain multiple packages that arrive on different days. If you
don't receive your entire order at the same time, please wait a couple of days
after you receive your first package before contacting us at service@woot.com."

I have the same issue as several others. I purchased two helicopters, but I only received one helicopter. As others state above, my shipping label clearly states 2, but only one was in the box. To add, the box isn't even big enough to have held 2. I've emailed woot and I'm waiting for a response. If anyone else has heard back from them, I'd be curious to know what they said. I wouldn't have made this purchase at all, for just 1 helicopter. I needed 2.
