Not only could this have been mailed for much cheaper, but also much more securely - not in a collapsible box that is easily pushed open. The stupidest thing, though, is actually stating the contents on the address label!

Smartpost vacuums. No more for me.

I think you might be missing the point of the $5 shipping. It's a standard charge for any item. So while this one might not be quite $5 it is made up for as soon as you buy a flat screen that weighs more than the hulk.
The good news is whoever took it no doubt thought they were getting a much cooler mp3 player than a $10 one. So call it karma.

My mom has one of these and likes it very much. It works great for what it is. I have the new clip and like the size alot better. The 240 is kinda bulky but light. Great for the gym or just a mp3 player you dont mind if it gets broken so your $400 ipod doesnt get hurt.

bought one of these things last go around. things that annoy me:
1. no built-in rechargeable battery. get some rechargeable AAA's and an external charger to go with it. battery life is around 5-6 hours at reasonable volume levels.
2. inconsistent controls. sometimes the buttons respond, sometimes they don't. likewise with the screen backlight.
3. must use windows media player to sync device. oh, and the dongle is only 6 inches long, so you better have a front-usb port open.

for ten bucks, however, it's a great little device. for my own sanity, though, go with their 2gb model (featured a week and a half ago) which solves the first problem at least as i can tell. and 1gb runs out quick when adding songs.

I bought 3 of these last time and one will no longer allow me to erase the music folders I've added. As soon as I tell my computer to delete them, the player rereads the files and puts them back on. Any ideas of what to do, besides order another one for 10 bucks?

Actually, it doesn't QUITE act like a USB flash drive. When I plug mine it, Windows detects it as a special device (it had a 3-letter acronym) and wants me to use Windows Media Player to manage it. It DOES show up under "My Computer", and you can drag and drop songs, BUT ... it wants them in a \Media\Music folder which does not initially exist, and it won't let you click on "File / New / Folder", which was briefly perplexing. What I did that worked was create a folder "Music" (empty) on my PC and then drag and drop that folder into \Media (which worked), then drag and drop the songs into that folder. It all worked, in the end, but it wasn't QUITE as straightforward as I would have liked.

That said, once loaded, it works GREAT.

I believe you will need to download the manual and also a firmware update as soon as you get it.
Controls aren't quite intuitive, so you'll have a brief learning curve.

Great to hand to the kids when you are in the car for a long trip--they can each listen to their own music or FM stations.

My three units are gifts, but I never planned for Refurbished gifts. Would you mind sharing more information on the Refurbished stamp, where it is stamped and the general quality of the product? Thx.

I bought the SanDisk 512MB MP3/WMA Player with FM Tuner and Voice Recorder on 3/2/2007. I use it 5 time a week while working out to this day. I paid $17.99 (plus $5) The clear plastic cover is now discolored from age and sweat, but the device still works perfect. I don't remember what headphone it came with. who cares? Use a better headphone. This is one tough and reliable player. Once, I dropped it while jogging and stepped on it. Try doing this with a IPhone. If someone steals it at the gym, I'll buy another. For the money, a great deal.

Gotta admit I JUST LOVE when woot fux up and lists things wrong. Do they not read things? During this months wootoff it was a mislabeled mp3 player. Instead of just sending the one that was advertised and bitting the bullet, they sent an email apologizing and then sent the model they "meant" to send. Now they change and decide these are refurbished. Why can't they make a mistake in our favor and let it go to make up for the mislistings? shame woot shame shame shame.

Change the USB (Universal Serial Bus) mode of the player into MSC (Mass Storage Class). In MSC mode, your player functions as a regular removable drive.
Setup Mode to MSC
1) Tap your menu button and select "Settings" > "USB".
2) On this screen, make sure that there is a check next to "MSC" and NOT "Auto Detect".

bogawoot wrote:Will this work with iTunes software on an INTEL (not Mac) Pc ?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but iTunes works with iPods, and iPods need iTunes, right? Mac or PC, iTunes does not sync with anything but iPods. That's my understanding, but I will never know because I will never waste my money on a price-inflated music player.

I have 4 SanDisk MP3 players (including this model), and they all work great. No, this unit does not support Rockbox (or more correctly stated, Rockbox does not support this player) at this time. Yes, it plays DRM-protected music. Yes, this unit plays Audible.com audiobooks (and, with the DRM support, should play all other audiobooks). No, you don't need any software to add music unless it is DRM protected, then Windows Media Player works fine.

The best feature of this device imo is the really long battery life. Outlasts my Creative Nano Plus two to one, and both use a single AAA battery.

The most useless feature is the voice recorder, which is just such poor quality that it isn't worth using. Again, my opinion - your expectations may vary.

I was just on the Sandisk site, and there are no downloads at all for this product line other than photos of the product. In particular, could not find a download of the manual.

Go into the Settings, Advanced, USB (or something like that, it's from memory) and set MSC mode. The it WILL be quite like a USB drive. That other mode that it comes set to, yeah that's weird.

As to iTunes, yes it sorta works with iTunes. I use iTunes on my Win computer, and put those songs on many types of MP3 players.

1. In iTunes, I think the Advanced menu, Importing tab, select MP3 format instead of AAC. Then this can play all the imported songs, but NOT the ones you get from iTunes Music Store. Those have DRM on them.
2. Figure out the iTunes file storage scheme. /My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/artist/album/song.mp3 for example.
3. Drag 'n drop the files from there to the MP3 player's drive letter (which should now be a drive letter, since you set MSC mode.)

I've heard of an addon named iTunes Agent that connects an iTunes playlist to a USB-drive-mode player or media card, thus automating steps 2 and 3 above, but haven't tried it yet.

I got 2 of these last time 'round, and they work great.
