Meizu 8GB. Doesn't require iTunes.

Are you serious??? How can you even begin to compare that thing with an iPod. that's like saying a Kia is offering competition to a BMW. And why is it an advantage that it doesn't require iTunes? Are there people out there that DON'T use iTunes? Why would you NOT want to use iTunes? How many Meizu users do we have out there? Anyone? Bueller? Man, this is such a weird post...

The only argument I would have against this deal is that in one week, the new iPhones will be out. All of the early adopters (that includes me) will be unloading their 8GB iphones for $100 or so since the new 8GB iPhone will sell for $199.

So...buy a used 8GB iPhone and don't activate it and you have an 8GB Wi-Fi iPod Touch for $100.

Pretty simple, isn't it?

Talk about bad timing!

I had $200 to burn two days ago. I was torn between a PSP and an MP3 player.

I bought the PSP. It's frakking awesome, btw.

I've had a refurbed 4gb 1st gen nano from Apple.com for over a year now and it's running fine. I noticed twice that the skip forward has problems occasionally (twice so far), but it seems pretty okay for now. I get the feeling that refurbs are updated with improved casings and batteries as it hasn't shown signs of dying yet (though I'm sure it will eventually). Honestly though, you really shouldn't be using any electronics with " sweaty fingers". Just asking for trouble there.

I've had a handle on a couple 3rd gen nanos and I can honestly say they are much nicer than I expected. Not quite sold on the design, but the screen and the size are very nice. Still can't stand the lack of drag and drop, lack of file capabilities and the sterile uncustomizable menu... and the matte metal casing is a step down from the classic glossy look of the classic and touch ipods. I think I'll wait for the 4th gen, or until this one hits the 100 mark.

BOOO.

My price comparison across the internet and local stores can beat this price. This is a refurbed piece so for an extra 10 or 20 dollars you can get it brand new, even from the Apple store.

It will sell out for those who are exclusive non-comparing wooters, but I'm really disappointed.

Why is this better than the Zune that Woot offered a while back? I really do not understand. 30 Gbs - vs 8 - and I think all the same features - and a bigger screen. Other than not being able to find accessories!

It's not better, just different. The zunes are great but not everyone likes the size of the 30 gig (physical size) and the interface is not as friendly on the marketplace for new users I think. My kids love the zune and I liked its onscreen design but not the size. This is my 2nd nano, in for a green.

I just wanted to chime in...
I bought a green iPod nano about two weeks ago in the Woot Off, and I love it.
We are an iTunes family, and have been using it (locked in) since 2004. I have an circa 2004 3G iPod 30GB with Firewire, and even though it has a port connector, it isn't really fully compatible with all of the current accessories. Bummer. Plus, the battery has degraded over time, so it is always being plugged in when in the car to charge.
I am also holding out on the new 3G iPhone, so I'll be picking one of those up in the next month or so too.

Well, the 3G nano 8GB meets my needs quite nicely. I get a color screen, capable of playing movies and TV shows and video blogs (regardless of how they get into iTunes). I can simply add it to iTunes with a new playlist, and it works with all of our other iPods in our family (wife has a 2G iPod and a Shuffle for working out).

Being a respiffied, it was dirt cheap from Woot, and that was great! Any scratches? Yeah, a couple of tiny ones on the back. Nothing too bad there - about the same that I would have caused it if I left it on my pocket for a week or so. Don't worry about that, plus you are saving about $70 off a new one. And the screen was perfect, no scratches there, and all the pixels are A-OK. Personally, I would have wanted a black one, but I hesitated, and they sold out quickly. I almost bought the silver one (still somewhat masculine color), but decided on the green one instead, and love it! The silver didn't seem to look 'right', almost like I would have preferred a darker grey color instead of the lighter (too light?) silver shade. But the green one offers a really nice color contrast to the screen. Also, I had to reformat it from Windows back to a Mac which took all of a few seconds (not a big deal at all) when I updated the firmware. Easy with iTunes.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with my purchase, and I'm pondering grabbing another for a gift. Right now, I carry this little guy in my inside pocket of my riding jacket when I take my motorcycle to work (50MPG!!! - and Fun!). So light (compared to my 30GB 3G iPod) that I forget that it is there. And at work, I drop it into an iPod tabletop radio to listen to it and charge it. Woot forgot to mention that it also comes with a radio/dock connector adapter insert to hold the 3G nano in these types of radios which makes mating them together much easier.

Thanks,
-Critter

Not true... I bought one of these in the last woot-off and it was PERFECT. It could pass for new.

Great woot today, and I think it's $5 less than the woot off price.

Downside:

1) switch carriers to AT&T
2) $60+ per month service contract for 2 years.

I think my LG phone and one of these Nano's will suffice AND cost me way less in the long run.

The last refurbished ipod I bought (not from Woot) was fine for 3 months then the battery life started degrading and would not hold the charge for more than few hours.

Anyone knows if these refurbished products have new batteries installed in them by whoever refurbishes them ? or do they keep the used battery in it if it tests OK ?

Woot-Off - (n) - fast succession of Woots on random day, once one Woot is sold out the next one appears, lasts for 24 hours. Signified by flashing lights and over excited Wooters.
* No Star Trek costume required but it does make it more fun.

I had a battery go dead on me also but it was because it was constantly kept in a HOT (Sacramento) car during the afternoon. This will kill a battery. You can have them replaced. You can even do it yourself. Check out iPod repair web sites. It did the trick for me.
