BIGGER GEEK ALERT........!!!!!!

That episode featured BOTH Mark Twain AND Jack London. Of course it was a younger Jack London who had not yet written anything....I think a teenager. He took Data's bags to the room, ran his errands, etc.

Like I said....bigger geek here! ;-)

Dwarf.....it had both. A young Jack.....not revealed as Jack London until the very end.

It seems the concensus in the reviews is that if this is to be used for HD than you will enjoy your experience. One guy said in Standard Definition:

"There is no clear definition with shades of black whatsoever, I was seeing a terrible rainbow effect in a basically grainy picture"

A few people said this but this guy describes it best:

"Once I tried watching "widescreen", the picture became distorted. Objects on either end of the screen would warp. This is most evident watching football, as you can clearly see the yard lines bend as they go to either the left or the right sides of the screen. "

He also said:

"...good luck finding a Universal remote that is compatible with this product. I have several, and none of the codes work."

Wah. And I was looking for a good 32'' LCD TV for my SD box, and I would strech to widescreen, so looks like this one is not for me

Bought this TV from Walmart for $578 plus tax, about 8 months ago. Serves me just fine, I have one pixel issue with it, but that's to be expected sometimes. HDMI port is hard to plug in and get to though.

I have this TV, also bought after thanksgivings day, and the picture is superb for a cheap 720p TV. The sound is decent as well, honesty, I can't hear the difference between it and a 32" Samsung I also own.

Honestly, I am really impressed with this by Emerson.

Usually Emerson products aren't that good, but their LCD tv's are solid for baseline products. They aren't fancy, but they are cheap and they do work well. If you are looking for super-high quality - go buy a Sony Bravia or a high end Samsung, but if you just want a simple, good looking 720p LCD tv - this is pretty much the most bang for your buck.

I simply cannot watch stretched SD, where everything is short and fat ... which is one reason I am still avoiding plasmas ...

We've been waiting to sell our house before we buy an HDTV for the bedroom ... (owning two houses really puts a dent in the ol' cash flow, especially around the first of the month) ... already have the HD DVR in place and ready to go ... but I was thinking more about something in the 40" range so I guess I'll keep waiting ...

This TV will not work with Dish Network Universal Remote--I bought one from Wal-Mart a few months ago and called Dish Network and Emerson both and Emerson even told me is would not work with the Dish Network Universal Remote. Picture was fine but took it back since I didn't want to have to use two remotes.

zyodei wrote:I have to say, once you get used to the Indian style (or Asian style, I should say) hole in the floor, "squat" toilet, you never go back. It's just a lot easier.

Better for the colon too..when you sit down, you put a kink in your large intestine right before it passes..when you squat, it is just a straight shot, and the shittin's quick and easy. Try it sometime!

You're wrong on many levels here. First, sitting doesn't put any "kinks" in your colon. Second, unless you've been backed up for days when you poo, it is coming from your rectum, NOT your colon. If there's no poo in your rectum you aren't going to have the urge to go.

Squatting does increase the pressure in the abdominal cavity which is why it practically flies out of you when you squat. When you sit on a Western style toilet you have to apply a lot of muscular effort (valsalva) to increase the pressure in the abdominal cavity.

Trust me, I know about this. Three generations of my family have died on the toilet. I don't intend to be the 4th.

1. There is no "official" standards based way to measure contrast ratio across the board, but there different tests to do it and they offer a pretty good idea...

1000:1 is bad any way you look at it. Specially when an extra 300.00 (maybe a lot for some?) gets you a Samsung with 10 times that.

2. that "nick" kid with the Obama comment... yeah, you're a Observer.

Not a bad TV for a college kid. A friend of mine has this TV and has no problems with it so I forwarded it on to another friend looking for a budget friendly HDTV under 40in. Good bang for the buck IMHO. Good day all!

personally i would pass on this, kind of like westinghouse hdtv's or them store brands. i don't have any faith in them. however, it is an ok deal and would be good in a kids room or whatever. remember, we really need to add to our carbon footprint by buying an atsc tuner tv by 2/17/2009 anyway!

The manual (linked previously posted thanks) says max consumption of 165W.

Has anyone with this TV measured the actual elec consumption (on, stand-by)?

FYI easy way to do that is with a Kill-a-Watt meter.

Been thinking that replacing my 26" CRT with a new LCD would lower my elec bill (a plasma definitely not)... but not at 165W!

Thanks!

I don't think enough people have said this, so let me reiterate, 720p is ok for a 32 inch monitor.
