I got one of these a while back from woot. They work really well. Definitely worth the money. My only complaint is that the display is hard to read at night, especially when you're doing what you're supposed to do with this...running or biking.

My first woot! I was going to wait, I can't believe I gave it up to woot before marriage!

I've had a Polar heart rate monitor ($200) for about 10 years & yes it goes RIGHT under the "boobages" as you call them. If your wife is in to working out, she'll love it. If she's not, she might not appreciate it as much as you think she will

What did you buy her last, a vacuum cleaner?!

I got MY wife a vacuum. I'd get her one of these, too, but the most exercise she gets lately is vacuuming. At least I got her a Dyson.

Maybe if I got her one of these to go under her boobages, she could see if her heart rate goes up with that fine precision vacuuming she does.

Vacuum Tracks. She loves well defined VACUUM TRACKS on the carpet.

I think I'll go fishing this weekend.

justagigilo85 wrote:I bought this heart rate monitor when it was available in May. I've used it in every workout since it arrived, and I wouldn't workout again without it!

If you're wondering, a heart rate monitor like this can tell you how hard you're working out and will lead to more efficient workouts.

The chest transmitter, however, is NOT water resistant. Can't use it for swimming. But the cardio machines at my gym pick up it's signal, so I don't have to hold onto those handles, or look at the watch to check my heart rate (though you will need the watch to activate the chest strap).

The chest strap needs getting used to. The day it arrived, I wore it for 24 hours (minus shower time) and even slept with it on. SO, I can vouch for it's comfort. My chest is about 38" so I had to adjust the strap almost to the point where I couldn't tighten it anymore. So there's plenty of give for some of you not so slim wooters.

The contact points on the transmitter belt need to be moistened prior to each use. Some people use saliva and lick them. I'd rather not lick something that's been profusely sweated on, so prior to working out, i'll put a little bit of lotion on it (I use Cetaphil).

If you're comparing a heart rate monitor with a chest strap as oppose to one minus a chest strap, pick this one. You won't get as accurate and consistent of a reading from those other ones.

Guys, this is THE reason I joined w00t. I missed the January one, and checked the site every morning religiously until it was on sale again. I have no cons to mention, and i HIGHLY recommend this product. Don't miss out on this!

Not water resistant? I thought the woot description says "Water Resistant to 30m"? I was hoping to use this while I swim.....

Great Woot since mine recently died. Once you use a heart rate monitor a few times you will really learn its value. For those too lazy to do a quick search, here is a link to the comments from the last time it was Wooted http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=1873463.

Yes- fits under a sports bra bottom strap, that actually helps to keep it in place. Straps are bit harder to keep steady under a sports bra with underwire, to be honest, but it does work.

Why get this one when there are watches that tell you your heart rate without the chest strap? I think they have been on woot before too.

This item helped me lose 20 LBS. It kept me working out in my fat burning zone.
It is water resistant so you can swim with it also. The reason for the chest strap is so you can get a continuous heart rate reading...dont miss out on it!!!
awesome price too

You get one with a chest strap because the transmitter continuously detects the electrical activity of your heart just like an ECG. To monitor your heart rate with the ones without a chest strap you must place one or two fingers on sensor buttons. They cannot give you a constant reading of your heart rate. They are also trickier to use than the chest strap monitors and cold fingers or other variables can give you no reading or wild readings.

They won't give you a continuous heart rate without the strap. I tried to buy a new one a couple of months ago that didn't have a strap and to get your heart rate you had to put a finger on each of the two contacts on the watch - not really easy to do when you're working out!

I just recently had a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery (2.5 mos ago). Im 45 years old. Twice since that surgery, my pulse rate has shot up over 155 bpm. on one of those occaisions I had a mini-stroke leaving my right arm practically useless. If I had one of these after my surgery I might not have had such rough time. For that matter, if I had one of these before the heart attack things could have been drastically different there too.

Do yourselves a favor; get one of these for your parents, your grandparents, hell get one for yourselves! Most folks have no idea how important it really is to keep things like pulse rates, glucose levels, and blood pressure under control.

I got this last time. Agreed it works, remember you have to slightly moisturize the strap before putting it on. But overall, it gives very very variable readings. Fluctuates quite a bit. If you are into serious work out, this is NOT for you. If you just want to have a rough idea of your hearbeat, may be !

I have tried others before buying this one. Works great. The only downside: I still couldn't figure out some functions of the watch; and I'm a software engineer - this says something about watch or me - you decide :-). In any case, this is a steal for $25 total. I'm considering to buy it just as a backup.

I bought one last time. I use it for (mountain biking).
A few points on the device:
I mount the watch on the steering wheel of the bike, which is good (it comes with a bike clip). What I don't like is that setting the various functions on the watch are not intuitive at all. Everytime, I'm like how did this work again.
Also, the cheststrap needs to be positioned quite accurately or you think your heart stopped Not always easy when running or on a bike. I actually have some pecs so the strap tend to slide after a while. Also, you cannot turn the strap off other than removing the battery so it runs flat pretty quickly when unused.
But for 20 bucks I guess it's ok.

Does anyone have a PDF of the manual? I lost mine, and I have no clue how to use the darn thing

How do I actually activate the heart monitor portion?

I've got a Garmin Forerunner 305 which I run with on regular basis. Great device, but rather expensive. The chest strap fits fine under my sports bra, no need to purchase one specifically to put strap in. Just bought one of these as a spare or to give my partner who I hope will find it useful. I am not familiar with this one....doubt you can upload data to computer as the higher priced on you can. Great price, I hope it's as good as most folks are indicating.

I dont have this specific brand/model, but I do have one that works the same. And wearing one feels pretty much normal to me... feels just like a bra strap under the "boobages". Though I cant say that I'd be thrilled to get one of these from my husband... dancing close to the line with this gift. =)
