uh huh....

Maybe minus the OEM's price for Vista, but they don't pay retail box prices so you're certainly not going to get that kind of discount.

But seriously, you don't know anyone that could build you a cheap system w/o an OS? Hell, send me $500.00 and I'll build you one.

Had to fix 8 of them within 2 months of purchase (two of them within a WEEK), ALL of them within the one year warranty, and everytime we needed service, we had to provide a proof of purchase before they'd spend two minutes on the phone with us.

NO SONY, STAY AWAY.

Sony's biggest problem with their Vista machines is all the crapware they preload. Get rid of that (or do a clean install) and they seem to run about as well as anyone elses machines.

Though their hardware quality also seems to be slipping a bit.

Yeah I agree, except for when it comes to mp3 players. Their walkman line has been quite expensive, and though their ps3 and psp lines aren't as popular as we'd like to think, they're still pioneering devices in the world of an ever changing technological paradigm.

in the last woot off they had a way better sony system for $999, i think. had a 22 inch screen w/ TV tuner, bigger hard drive, more ram, and i think a quad core processor.

you can get this system anywhere but sony for the same price new.

From my experience - do not try to resell immediately. Right after a "great" deal, ebay is flooded with Woot users trying to resell products at the same time. When I bought a couple Zunes to sell online, the prices dropped to $80-$85. I waited 3 months and then resold them for over $100 each.

WHAT IS THAT THING ON THE SCREEN ? ? ?

I have owned one of these for about 8 months. Outstanding machine - very high quality, well integrated with VISTA, high performance (i.e. distance) wireless mouse and keyboard, and stunning piece of industrial design. The standby/sleep/hibernate features operate flawlessly so I have never had a concern about the PC wasting power when unattended. Processor is a little weak but typical of a notebook architecture. Great price on a great product!

Mac's are not great computers. Their specs cost 2 or 3 times as much for the same spec on a PC. As for operating systems, I work for a university tech department.

XP- solid after a long long time of upgrades

Vista- the only people who complain about using it are the ones that have either never tried it, tried it when it first came out, or tried it for a few days and didnt even give it a shot because of its reputation and the slander that apple gives it or the fact that you tried using it on a 600$ piece of carp pc that handled xp well. I have it, even in 64 bit and its amazing and destroys all of my friends mac computers in ability and ease

mac- solid operating system, but everything and i mean everything has to be mac related or compatible to use... if it was apple produced then its not going to work right (TALK ABOUT MONOPOLY). Also new viruses are nasty several coworkers have been slammed by them and have lost work computers to apple for over 2 weeks to "try" and have them fixed only to have to pay for replacement.

linux-awesome, if you can get it to work properly with your equipment great for you, but you have probably done programming and have the ability to do it because it requires a lot of tweaks to get all components working properly

Looks like a rip off of the imac. The specs do speak for themselves. carp I wouldn't pay that price for a regular desktop for what it has. Oh hello tis my first post. I use vista x64 bit ultimate and love it.

Well, they DO have direct links to it on the home page, and its kinda cool cuz you can see what's up for sale before you click on it and you don't have to cycle through each of them (I know there's only 3 but still). So its still there, a bit improved, but it WAS pretty convenient.

AGrant311 wrote:If anybody cares, the picture of the little fox is taken directly from Cuteoverload.com.

How cute is it that this poor creature was stolen, terrified, from his natural habitat, leaving his family behind (and possibly creating orphans) and locked up in some simulated environment and then photographed, the photos sold (as are passes to come and gape, slack-jawed, as he eeks out a miserable, flat existence thousands of miles from his home)? How about the fact that, like other foxes, the fennec is prized by many "fabulous, hip" designers, who also think he is cute, so cute that he would make a smashing coat, and so he and others of his kind are anally electrocuted after living miserable, fear-fraught lives in tiny, dank, cold cages filled with excrement? I am not exaggerating about any of this-- I just wish people could see beyond the objectification and actually CARE about the "cute" little animals. Please.

this would be fantastic if i could afford it. im still trying to figure out why everyone is hating on it just because vista. i work as a corporate IT "guru" and have started using vista a lot because sp1 has fixed pretty much everything. I hated it before sp1, but if you would upgrade you will realize how great it is. Also for audio engineering. Its got a WAY lower latency kernel than XP, which makes audio recording much easier on the machine. anyways. i would buy this in a heart beat if i had the moneiz.....

Woot-offs are occasional (usually every month or month and a half or so) sales where the item is replaced immediately with a new one as soon as it sells out. This continues for 24-48 hours (or so). There is no notice given so you just have to check the site. You will know it is a Woot-off because there will be flashing, rotating lights at the bottom of the item pic and a bar indicating the remaining quantity.

If I could say good lie I would start with

This is one of the best known PC in this form factor having awesome crystal clear HD monitor. It probably has some converter otherwise why it shows Youtube better than HD TVs. Processor is very fast. It seems to me better than Quad core PC. Best thing is wireless Keyboard. It has better range than WIFI. It does not consume battery at all. I was surprised after 2 years it still worked like new. May be there are some in-built solar cells to recharge secretly. After using this PC I became big fan of Vista. It took 0.1 second to boot and it worked ten times faster than XP pro. It has too many good features. I also bought refurbished. Sony probably takes two phases to improve the system. So who buy first are just Tester and when they return they finish optimization and make it perfect. I am so happy with everything that I often tell my Sony PC is like Pony.

This could be the most wonderful product on the planet and I still would not be tempted because of past dealings with Sony customer (non-existant) service. I purposely avoid a Sony brand anything.

And yes, I am a disguntled ex-Everquest player.
