85/100 from the plethora of Alatest Reviews...
http://alatest.com/reviews/hard-drive-reviews/seagate-barracuda-7200-10-80gb-sata-3gb-s-ncq/po3-35100785,67/

also 4 stars on buzzillions...

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

Buying a recertified hard drive is like playing russian roulette with all chambers loaded.

Everyone deserves a 3rd chance...I'm a woot! customer once again.

No, it's a 3.5inch drive.

I've got one of these (bought new, not from Woot), it's been great. Got some empty drive bays to fill. Hm. Price is tempting...but I don't want pǝqɹnɟǝɹ.

a respiffied hard drive is really awesome if you don't care too much about your data. You can get a brand new one in this size from places like newegg for $15-20m more, which will have a 3 or 5 year warranty depending on maker.

No, this won't work in a laptop. No, this won't work in a PS3. Most laptops within the last 2 years, and all PS3's use SATA hard drives in the 2.5" form factor. This is only suitable for use internally in a PC desktop or mac pro desktop, or popping it into an external enclosure (about $20) and using it externally. In any scenario, assuming you have no valuable data. As an IT professional there is no way I'd buy a refurbed hard drive for nearly any use.

That depends on how big of a hammer you have.

Is this a good brand? I feel like 500 gb for the price is either a great deal or a cheap brand...

If you value your data, don't buy respiffied hard drives, period.

"Annual Failure Rate: 0.34 %"

Has anyone else noticed this?!!? Hahaha. No go on this. Refurbished versions of things that are already prone to failure are too scary for me!

The brand is excellent, the recertified is not.

Newegg has a pretty comparable drive, if not the same one, running $69.99 new with free 3 day shipping.

I dunno. I think I'm gonna pass on this.

UGH! Spend another $10 or so on a NON-recertified one with a full warranty!

vcapton

only 500gb? I wouldn't buy anything that small any more.

For the price of 3 of these + $35, you can get a 1.5tb drive on newegg with 5 years of coverage.

I have had more problems with new drives than I have with refurbished drives actually.

Which reminds me, everyone should backup their data. NOW.

Can't justify getting a refurbed HDD...

Plus, the price is actually not that low these days...

Awesome! I was looking for a way I could store mission critical data on an unstable media platform in hopes that it would be compromised by poor quality!

I hope re-spiffed pace makers are next!!! Yeah!

No Thanks, Got one from the last wootoff that crashed. The one good thing is seagate will take them right back and replace them not if but when they crash. (If you are under the 180 days.)

If I could tell myself 4 months ago to not buy it. I would. I'd say pay the extra to get a new one. You'll pay the difference you save from woot in shipping it back to the manufacturer to be replaced.

It may not be a Seagate but the drives are almost as good. plus brand new and costs I thought for 50 bucks was a good deal. I'm going to hold back now.

To me, buying a respiffied hard drive is like buying a pair of used tighty whitey underwear with a big skidmark. You never know what demons (or Taco Bell Chulpah Grandes) have haunted it.

I think he means "for a moderate price increase, Seagate drives usually offer a five year warranty." (or maybe not and with my apologies) Personally, I will hold out for the warranty.

Would not recommend getting a 1.5TB drive, get 2 750s or 3 500s. This way, if one fails, your eggs aren't all in the same basket.

logicalcooper wrote:Will this fit into a laptop?

No. it will only be good as an external hard drive and you can't boot off of it because of that, so you'll have to keep the one you have in your laptop for a little bit longer
