Yeah, I'll go two, too, one for me, and one for an unexpected X-mas guest (that poor, sad, mo-fo, whoever it may be), or the mom-in-law.

Would this thing work on my timewarner cable box?
I assume it would since it has like HBO and stuff in it, but I just want to be sure before I get it.
It will, by way of either 2-3 ways it states it is capable, e.g., the device tables/codes, IR-to-IR learning functions, etc.

MMMMusic wrote:I have to disagree. Looking around the whole house for 6 remotes every time you want to watch a movie doesn't seem all that manly. I rather have a Harmony like my girlfriends because it works better than heaven, but for ten bucks, it might be worth a try. I'm gonna sleep on this one.
What Harmony model you talking about, there are at least 6-8 of them, ranging from the $69 and $89 models (no LCDs), to their two touch screen versions that list for $350 and $450?

carlitozway wrote:I'm guessing this won't change the source on tv automatically right? That is, if Cable is HDMI1 and the Xbox is Component 1 on the tv, when I switch from one to the other it won't switch the source. Rather it will allow me to have just one remote that will both allow me to change the source and change the channel on the cable box, but manually...
...right?
Right. If you want to combine actions/key-strokes, then you need a universal remote that is capable of creating "macros," i.e., putting a series of key-strokes on a single key of your remote...and there are MANY TO CHOSE FROM, and they start at about $30, e.g., X10.com, and run into the thousands of dollars.

I'm thinking about it - for a Dad and Hubby both of whom have failing eyesight and decreasing patience with things such as remote controls... if this gizmo would simplify the Tv/DVD/VCR/Cable box controlers for them, it would be a god-send....
If you program it FOR HIM (and it isn't difficult *IF* you just have the remote in one hand, and its manual in the other, as you just go step by step, i.e., they are all different as far as programming, and FAR from intuitive...meaning you ain't even gonna come close to doing it without the manual), then YES, this remote is SIMPLE TO USE (once it is programed), and he would DEFINITELY find it MUCH simpler to use it than a single remote for each of his devices.

Sad, BUT TRUE! Hell, Google, PayPal, et al., didn't even exist a decade ago, and now they are dictating management and bus. text books used in Harvard's MBA curriculum, and it's ALL NEW PRINCIPLES, "new" being things the business field would have found absolutely ludicrous 20 yrs ago.
