exoticbeverage wrote:Does anybody know if this remote has the same annoying standby behavior of the Philips Prestigo, where if it's been sitting long enough to turn the backlight off you have to press your button twice (once to turn the remote on, and again to actually send the signal)? That annoys the hell out of me, and if not having to do it means ditching the LCD screen that's fine.

I want to know this too. I use an "All In One" remote and you have to press the mute button twice to mute the tv. Once to "wake up" the remote and once to actually mute the tv. If I can, I want to use the All In One for target practice with my .22

I HATE having to "wake up" the remote. If I go to hell when I die, satan will give me an All In One remote.

Really tried to justify getting multiple for a lower cost-per-unit, but ended up going for one. I hope the learn feature works well; I'm going to teach this remote everything I know and let it do my thinking for me.

Sadly, this may be exactly what I've been looking for: something that can help my 90 year old grandmother figure out digital TV.

I need a new remote - Using three different remotes is getting to be a hassle. For $5, I'm in for one!

i told myself i'd stop spending money...

I started supplementing with DHEA, so I truly have to order three of these. Hey, if you are a normal guy with normal functioning adrenal glands, and other glands, you have to be in for at least one of these. Don't you?

Any idea if this little guy has a "mute" button. I see some kind of icon with the universal symbol for "no," but I can't make out the icon. That leads me into my second question. Are the buttons illuminated for easy viewing? I hate having to turn on the light just to change a channel. Yes, thank you, I am over 40! Stupid over 40 eyesight!

Yes, there is a mute button.
No, no illumination.

Any idea if this will control the new CECB (digital converter) boxes? I don't see Digital Stream listed as a brand on their code website. I guess it could just learn all of the commands from the original remote? Would it have enough memory to do that?

I think that should resolve the problem of having to hit a button on the remote to wake it up. Illumination is a power eating feature that the "double button entry" is supposed to help with (i.e., first press of any button on the remote to "wake it up" and then press your buttons to actually do what you want to accomplish).

Glad I'm already in for 2 ! :-)

I'm in for two.

With a soon to be six year old and a three year old who have a few favorite (and appropriate) channels to choose from, it will be nice to let them do their own channel surfing by looking at the icons. A few favorites left over for mom and dad ain't so bad either.

I don't want to go back to the description, but does this have an all-in-one function? In other words can one button turn on/off my TV,Cable/ Sat box , surround system, and VCR at the same time? Also can it control the channel on the cable box, the sound on the surrond system and the display mode (or other controls) on the TV without switching to each device before hand?

Pretty new to the Universal remote scene. I have a receiver that I use for my volume, would I be able to program this bad boy to be hooked up to my Digital Cable, while using just the volume for my Receiver? or am I going to have to switch to the receiver every time I want to change the volume?

Once you go Harmony you don't go back.

I've never liked my 880. It's lightweight and flimsy, and its poor button layout coupled with an odd center of gravity means it's very awkward to use. And Logitech's crazy level of control -- you often have to email tech support just to have a sequence adjusted -- leaves me pretty frustrated. Also, the battery life is awful, and it's so poorly designed that it doesn't always couple with the charger base, so it's as likely as not to be dead when I pick it up. And if it *does* couple, the irregular beeping is maddening.

But other than that, it's great. ;)

Reading the manual ( http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/s/sru4105wm_17/sru4105wm_17_dfu_aen.pdf ) there is a volume "punch-through" feature that lets you allow the volume control for one device (your receiver) to be controlled by the volume controls when another device(s) is selected (cable box, TV, etc.)

No backlight? And it has to take my current, young, supple remote's virginity first? I think I'll pass... Besides, I'm not sure if I'm "crafty" enough to make my own stickers...

If I can't see it, it doesn't exist... unless it's pinching me.

Ok, no one seems to be able to answer my questions. I looked again at the description and specs and I think it can't do what I want. For $20 I'll go with the Radio Shack 8 in 1 remote that has "MACRO" capabilities to program everything (various componets) into one button. and it has a back light. I'd love to have a Harmony but if $20 can do what a $100 or more unit can do why spend the money?

Does anyone who has this remote know if the "Favorite" keys can be learned? It appears in the manual that they are designed for storing channel numbers. But I'd love to store learned codes on them if possible.... anyone know?

HI have an older model 32" ZENITH TV that has PIP (picture in picture). The PIP function on my ZENITH remote hasn't worked for years, nor will the PIP work with my Charter Cable remote. Does anyone know if this Phillips Remote is compatible with a ZENITH TV, and/or if the Phillips remote has the PIP function ? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Explain the "rip-off" in the Radio Shack unit. Which unit and why. I'm looking at the 8-1 and it does everything I want including one button for all equipment and is only $20!

I have a Logitech Harmony One. I hate it. It thinks it's smarter than me and tries to do things I don't want it to do. On top of that, it fills up the device "pages" with three times as many controls as my devices actually have. Plus, I can't let the kids touch it. Then there's my wife, who is constantly losing the DVD and TV remotes in the bedroom. And the people at work who are always walking off with remotes...

In for three. Wish I could be in for more.
