This should work fine ... if you read the front page those were the EDID errors which are none of these should be a problem with.

Ok, so I feel obligated to make some comments for the first time ever here in the forums just to clarify a few things:

1. If you are worried about this "monitor" not having a tuner you are a fool. You have nothing to worry about.
2. If you want to use this for you PS3, XBOX360, or any computer, it works like a beauty. However I do recommend that you get some kind of secondary sound source; but I would do the same for any TV.
3. I have had the 47" version of this for over a year now and I can also vouch for every inch of it's viewing pleasure. I know just a little about what I am talking about. Sure there are nicer TVs out there, but then if you wanted one of those you shouldn't be checking Woot! every night for one should you?

The best way to do this is just to get a descent HDMI switching home theater stereo ( I bagged an Onkyo 606) and then plug in everything your heart desires, ie Dish or Direct HDDVR (cable vacuums), PS3, the XBOX, and lastly but surely, your computer via HDMI. Works like a dream. Mine has auto signal sensing just like any computer monitor, so anytime I turn on the stereo to use any of them, the Westinghouse will power on and off by itself. If you are really cheap, you can just get that 40 dollar HDMI switch someone left a link to earlier. Parts Express is a good store too, but with the money you save on this Westy, you could afford it now.

Either way, if you don't know anything about TV's, or even if you think you do, This is a good deal. My 47" model cost more than four times this price when I bought. I love every second of it.

How are people allowed to just come on and post junk? First off you label it as a monitor then end by saying this is a good deal if you know anything about tv's or don't. It has no tuner so its not a damn tv!

After reading through the forums I noticed that no one even brings to attention the imporant details about over-the-air HD. Dude to encoding and compression reasons, OTA provides a better picture than HD from sat/cable. That is right, free HD is actually better quality than the HD that is coming from your walls.

The signal you are getting over the air is comign straight from the network with no compression. It is 19 mb/s bitstream. The cable provider recieves this same signal from the network, but then needs to compress it to actually send it out. This difference becomes even clearier with audio. Now granted, you need to have a good antenna and maximize it for recepetion but please don't sit here and spew that the fact that this monitor lacks a tuner is no big deal. People who don't have antennas are just your average person who knows little about how this stuff works. People who really enjoy and take pride in what they are watching and listening too though would severely be disappointed with this set.

You guys are all nerds.

I post a pic with a bunch of good looking women hanging on the Westinghouse and everyone's arguing about "is this a monitor or a TV?"

I got one, I use it as a PC monitor with no complaints, it's great, this is a good price. Women are a bonus.

I have been very tempted here because I have been looking for a reasonably priced 32" for the bedroom. I have seen that a lot of people are concerned about the lack of a coax connector and I had the same thought. We have Dishnet and that room runs off a receiver box in another room so I can only hook up with coax. Since I have no box in there I Crooooooooow! to have to run it through an ugly VCR or DVD player with wires running back and forth. People concerned about that should know that they can get an RF modulator that will convert the coax to RCA/Component/S video connectors for $10 or less. That little modulator is small enough to conceal behind the TV even when mounted to the wall.

Plasmas have a better picture, better blacks, less motion blur, better viewing angles.

I would still buy an lcd over a plasma but I am broke. If I were rich I'd buy plasma all day. There are good reasons out there to buy either but please don't derisively say that lcd is better than plasma or vice versa. One could argue either way but I feel I have to defend plasma by your comment.

Answered in order:

- They are priceless.
- Yes. Except for one, which I married.
- Please don't be vulgar.
- Again, please mind the vulgarity.

Seriously, though, this is really a good purchase. I emailed this woot to several friends and two have made the purchase today. Keep in mind that the model I have is the original, not the "se" model. This particular model I've seen in action as well, and while it lacks an additional DVI port the original has, the blacks are much darker (better contrast ratio for photo editing.)

If using this Westy for a PC monitor, sit back at least 3ft. The Ikea Gallant series of desks is the right depth for this monitor/television. Game playing is good, and I can sit back and watch a blue ray movie from my PC. While quite wider, it screen has the almost the height of a 32" television.

I would like to use them to drive a monitor like this Westinghouse as well. Do all of them output HD signals as well or are they strictly converters?

None of the Govt. coupon-eligible converters output HD. The outputs are limited to RF (ch. 3/4 like a VCR), composite, maybe S-video. I don't think you'll even find component. But definitely not HD.

Government is helping you not to lose standard def because of their mandate; they aren't paying for you to upgrade to high def.

Personally, I found it still to be an upgrade, with no snow or ghosting (but the occasional freezing and pixelation instead), especially in my fringe channels, and the extra programming I get on the subchannels. But its still just standard def.

Given that, I have the Insignia one from Best Buy. I got it based on reviews from a guy who tried a bunch of coupon-eligible converters and did a side-by-side test, and found that the Insignia did the best job of quickly locking onto a signal. The downside is the audio it outputs is pretty low, so you have to turn the TV volume up a lot more than you're used to, and hope you remember to turn it down before you switch to a tape or DVD and blast your ears out.

I had been wanting a new tv for quite some time and good thing woot put up this tv for sell because I bought the tv so now have a new tv on the way. Anyone want to come over and watch the new tv Ive got coming? We can watch tv. I see where some people have problems with the manufacturer of this tv and hopefully I dont have a problem with them if this tv ever were to give me problems, but if this tv were to mess up Ill send it back and monitor the situation closely.

What "TV" are you referring to in your question?
Cable cards plug into tuners. When we're talking a monitor that doesn't have a tuner, well, it's pretty obvious that there's no tuner to insert the cable card into.

This is not a TV. That's why woot calls it a monitor.

Alright, my two cents worth. The government says that all TV's being manufactured now need to have a built in HDTV tuner, so unless something has a tuner built in it can't be called a TV. This is the reason it is being called a Monitor; it can't legally be called a TV.

As I said my tuner is in another room so I can only get the signal through coax. The way I described it gives anyone with DISHNet any easy fix. If you have DIRECTV you will have a tuner/receiver already and with cable you are just out of luck.

TV! LMAO!

What you enlightened souls and knowledgable few as you call yourselves dont seem to realize, is that majority of people call anything that they can watch television shows on, a tv! Just Ive never heard someone say they want to go home sit on the couch and watch some monitor. If I can watch television on it, its a tv. When I have my dishnetwork receiver connected to it, I dont say Im watching sattelite, I say Im watching tv. I dont dispute the current definition of tv according to government regulations, but Ill still call it a tv. Its stupid that the governement is regulating tv's in the first place.
