I loaded the software that came with the camera and my computer locks up after installation. The Manuf website is down and I can not find any updated drivers. Where can I find the most up to date driver?

I figured it out. I have to turn off the AMCap. THEN connect to my on-line site. duh, Duh, DUH! I almost didn't write back but I figured there might be some other person out there having the same "problem" and my feeling foolish might help them.

Probably something that everyone knew but it's my first web-cam.

Hope it helps,

OK, apparently these cameras are beyond my electronic abilities. I've opened one and got it to run and now am able to watch myself. Big deal. I already know what I look like. I was hoping for something that I could use to converse with my brother so he could see my gorgeous (?) face while we talked or emailed. Heck, maybe I don't know what I'm doing. Ya think?

Anyway, anyone that would like 2 RED ones (one opened that works fine), let me know. I'll put them both back into the mail to you for the same price, but instead of the $5, it'll have to be whatever the USPO charges.

I'm going to see if I can return them to WOOT in the meantime. If you want 'em, you'd better let me know quick.

both you and your brother would need to download the same program, and connect through it to see each other.

Example would be skype.

no idea- last HUE I got ahold of had drivers that caused some issues with color bands and a few other bugs, intermittently... and they released an update for the website to fix these issues (update being the 'most recent drivers' according to the guy managing them). It's possible they're shipping now with most recent drivers- I have no idea. What color is the HUE logo on the CD? I *think* I remember they were doing different color labels/logos to track different driver versions. I think first version had blue logo disc, second was pink (the latest HUEs I have)... there may have been a green disc afterwards.

The 'magic button' didn't work that let's you do video chat with anyone, anywhere in time or location? :P You need software... Clique (HUE's original producer) once provided it, but no longer- as the other reply mentions, skype is a great (free) way to video chat.... think of it akin to needing a ROAD to drive the nice new red sports car you bought... road being vid chat software for your red cam to run on.

Good morning, mgshn.

As a matter of fact, I just figured out how to get to that stuff myself the other day.

The effects are accessed through the AMCap software. Once you run AMCap, select Options | Video Capture Filter...

The resulting properties dialog has three tabs: Settings, Effects and Zoom. The Effects tab has all of the goofy effects you can do. Some of them are cute too. We had our first snow storm on Friday so I used the snow effect.

The Zoom tab has the zoom and face tracking stuff. Face tracking is okay, but the face tracking software on my Sony Vaio with a built-in web camera functions much better.

Overall, I really like the camera. It's great fun.

HELPFUL HINT: If you want to control the effects of your camera while the camera is in use by other software (such as instant messaging software), turn off the AMCap preview by selecting Options | Preview. This will free up your camera for the other software to use it. You'll still be able to set the effects, zoom and face tracking though. :-)

Thank you.

Lisa :-)

Thank you.

Did you get this working on Linux? I'm using Mandriva and it's not recognized automatically. It's a microdia webcam, and the driver for Linux is still under development. I'm stuck as well.

BUT, am I the only one that is paranoid having that thing around? Right now, I am looking at it and it feels like it is looking at me. Kinda HAL-like. I unplugged the USB cord from the comp, but still, i get that eerie feeling.

trying to get this working on my macbook pro and having no luck, this is frustrating as can be.

i installed the drivers, no dice, then i uninstalled it and tried again, still no luck.

and the site with the updated mac drivers seems to be down or something, i can't get to it, but the 'webcam monitor' software (the only thing available for me to install on the disk) said version 1.3, and i read a few comments here saying that is the most recent?

this is my first time trying to use a webcam that isn't the built in isight, anyone have any insight to this?

Perfect, thanks!

One thing I noticed is if you do use it for IM'ing and position the camera in front of your monitor next to the video feed window then it appears that you are looking right at the other person. (As opposed to over their head or off to one side)

And yes, the face tracking leaves a bit to be desired. Still, a great camera and even better now that I can fiddle with the images.

These drivers seemed to work on my Mac with Photo Booth:
http://www.sonix.com.tw/sonix/product.do?p=SN9C202%20(Phase%20out)

The background effects were giving me trouble though.

You can also try some other drivers for similar chipsets here:
http://www.sonix.com.tw/sonix/family.do?f=3#PC-CAM%20Controller

The file will download without an extension, but I believe it is a ZIP file. If you have trouble opening it, try the application "The Unarchiver". It should extract a DMG file for you.

anyone know how to adjust the resolution to something smaller?

Woot, just got mine today, 1 day ahead of schedule. For the people who still haven't gotten theirs, if you take the 20 digit number from the tracking link in your email, and copy it, got to fedex.com, and paste it in their tracking number system. It'll still say it's in Texas, but at least it'll give you an estimated delivery date.

Here's a picture of one of the boxes. Took it with the other camera

As for the sound, I had to do the "Audio and webcam setup" option in MSN to get it going. But it definately works. It might be the same, or even better than the 70 webcam my sister has for a quarter of the price. Thanks woot.

Also, if you go into "Webcam settings" on MSN messenger, you can change all the settings (brightness, exposure, effects, face tracking, etc) without having to do it in AMCap.

EDIT 11/25: Checked smartpost just now and estimated delivery is now the 27th...ugh. Guess that means it'll be delivered on the 28? -__-

I'm going to have a genius friend try and figure it out tonite so I don't have to completely try reinstalling Windows or reformatting. I can't wait until it works! Good luck, everyone else!

So my genius friend did a bunch of stuff and couldn't figure it out either. His only idea, based on all the funky stuff he looked at (exe processes, etc) is that it won't work if the computer has more than one account profile, due to some cryptokeys or something. This sounds plausible to me, but still sort of iffy. The only way I'll find out is when I quit my job and can remove the extra profiles off the laptop :-) For now, I will have to just use a separate mic.

I got a STOP error 0x0000007E on snp2sxp.sys

I searched on google and found this...

http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-56610-snp2sxpsys-Blue-Screen-BSOD-Problem.html

The new driver posted on this board is the same one that came on the CD, and does not fix this issue. FYI, my settings while getting this error were YUY2 at 1024x768 at 5 frames per second.

I'm quite dissapointed as the reason I ordered these is to be able to use the HD feature. I will attempt usage in RGB 24 at 1024x768 5FPS and see if I get the same result.

supersleeper

quality posts: 0 Private Messages supersleeper

Furthermore, I adjust the focus on the lens in 1024x768 to no avail and it is still blury. It's not as noticeable in the lower resolutions, but is very annoying in HD.

Hi, ichserbe.

Wow, I guess I'm really fortunate. I think there's like one pixel that is sort of black toward the right side that I am guessing is dead or something. Poor little pixel. It's a shame we can't revive the poor dears.

Anyway, the seemingly deceased pixel follows the preview window when I move it around. I suppose it could be a spec on the lens, but how would we know for sure?

This was a very neat Woot! for me. These cameras are great fun and they function surprisingly well. In fact, I like these cameras better than the Philips SPC 900NC PC Webcam I purchased on Woot! earlier this year. The Philips camera would be nice if the stupid bracket actually held the camera on my laptop display. I digress...

Thank you for reading my notes.

Good evening.

I don't know what the problem is with your computer not recognizing the camera and/or drivers when you attempt to install it, but it's not because you have multiple user accounts on your computer.

Now, you will want to login as the administrator account when installing the camera, but there is no reason that multiple user accounts would prevent you from installing the hardware and it's associated support software.

If I were experiencing the symptoms that you are on your computer, I would be looking at conflicts with other software/drivers/devices.

Good luck!

Thank you.

Good evening, Tenchu912.

Be absolutely certain that you have the microphone from the web camera selected as the default input device. To check this, open Control Panel and click on the Sounds and Audio Devices icon. (You may need to switch to classic view for Control Panel to see this icon. Sorry, I'm an old lady and I use Windows XP the way I remember Windows from the old days.)

Anyway, once in the Sounds and Audio Devices applet, click on the Audio tab and ensure that the Default device selected in the Sound recording section is HUE HD Webcam Audio.

Here's a picture of how mine looks:
