Install the Blackberry drivers and you'll have better result.

My Moto Q9h doesnt charge unless the drivers (ActiveSync/WMDC) are installed for it ... also a co-worker had to install the Blackberry software suite (included with his phone) to get his to charge via the PC. My Razr used to charge just fine without anything special, but windows saw it as a mass storage device so the drivers were already in Windows.

Apparently I DIDN'T get the lights after all. I just checked my account and it is not listed as being purchased by me.

I just checked my credit card. I don't have a pending charge for it either. I do have a pending charge for another item I purchased during the woot-off. Strange...

Maybe it hung in the reservation thing while everyone else hurried to get the 'rare' woot lights. I did get to the processing purchase screen.

It may be worth it to tell your story to their customer service, and ask if they can send you one if anyone cancels their order. From what I hear (and from the few times I've needed to contact them) woot customer service is pretty awesome

Buyers beware !!! Just got my Slacker from Woot. Does not wok. The reply I got from Woot was " Unless we specifically tell you not to, call the manufacturer of the product you bought. You will likely get a replacement of a new model or better item from them."
Now I know why I shop at stores. If it does not work, they give you a refund. They don't tell you it is not their problem and you should go online to figure it out or call the manufacturer. By the way, there is no number to call Slacker, no instruction manual, no installation disc... Live and learn

If the item says something like "Warranty: 1 Year Slacker" then that means there's a one year warranty from the 'Slacker' company.
You do have a point about going in to stores though, if you want to have the option to return something, pretty much no questions asked, no hassle, that's the way to go.
The trade off for that being, you will pay a lot more in stores 90% of the time, sometimes even 2 or 3x the price as on line.

And did you really expect a company named "slacker" do have a phone number to call? ;)

Personally, I think it would be better if these woot-off lights could connect to the internet and sense a woot off and turn on themselves.

That would be bad ass and definitely worth $15.

From what I gather, these don't. They are "USB powered" but not USB controlled. They have individual on/off switches.

I think when I get mine, I will modify them to be controlled by commands from the PC. Connected to be a "woot warning device" or not, they will at least be controlled from a PC.

I thought the woot-off went alright, I managed to get x-mas gifts for 4 or 5 people, a few things for me including an additional power cord for my laptop (so I can keep 1 in my backpack, and the other under my desk) and woot-off lights.

I also missed the Bandolier of Carrots, by mere minutes, so I feel your pain, I'd say it's the bitterness rising up making you doubt the awesomeness of this woot-off

I thought it was a pretty great woot-off, even with missing out on the Bandolier of Carrots. And the lights are something I'll definitely keep on display.

edthebedhead wrote:not all PC usb ports are powered.

All USB Ports are powered.

There are two types of devices: low-power and high-power. Low-power devices draw at most 1 unit load, .... High-power devices draw the maximum number of unit loads supported by the standard. All devices default as low-power but the device's software may request high-power as long as the power is available on the providing bus.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usb#Power

Mobile Phones mfgs and other unpleasant corporations [try to] make it so the phones will only charge with OEM chargers. to charge off pc, the drivers are only necessary to say it's a pc the phone sees, and not a knock off charger. the first brand chargers actually communicate to the phone to put the phone into charge mode. it's a tad overcomplicated [although, there have been lot's of consumer devices that have had exploding batteries, so maybe a little control is necessary]

I only recently heard of usb3.0 however. I can't keep up with it all anymore.

Shameful plug / bump:
I detailed my current solution for controlling usb periphery, in the following post: http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=2859604

I didn't read all the pages in this topic [yet], but I did read the last few repeatedly trying to find my damn msg.
