Bought 3! However, my receipt says "with standard shipping " and a disclaimer stating "Again, your order will typically ship within 5 business days."
The main page clearly says Shipped Two-day, so I hope that the receipt was just wrong and it comes BEFORE Christmas.

Funny, I didn't know Exxon made "mobiles"? I've only seen ones with Looney Tunes and Disney Characters. I wonder if the Exxon "Mobile" comes with oil covered seals?

I'm in for 1 at 4:3, 800x600 is a lot better then those others for $35-$40 at NewEgg/Tigerdirect with like 480x260? resolution. Hope this thing is better, and it comes with a remote so my 60 year old mother can become more frustrated in life thanks to technology!!!

So . . . can you just leave these things on 24 hours a day, forever? I would like to give one of these to my 87 year old grandmother, BUT I dont want her to have to do anything to it (ie, turn it off, turn it on, unless it's SUPER easy - she has a hard enough time with the answering machine).

The PF800M seems like a better deal to me because it has 25% more pixels than the PF809M. Plus my camera shoots 4:3 pictures. This makes me wonder if the PF809M crops 4:3 images, stretches them out, or displays them at 4:3 without filling the entire screen? Either way I don't think I would like the 16:9 display.

Until the backlight bulb dies, but that should take a few years.

As far as which ratio to order, everybody keep in mind that point-and-shoot cameras generally shoot in 4:3, while digital SLRs generally shoot in 3:2 which doesn't match either frame exactly.

Also, ordering 16:9 is just another way of saying "I don't intend on showing vertical photos on this thing...ever."

I hope it would be crop or fill, although with stretch, you could load up pictures of friends and gloat over how much thinner you look!

Even though the size and resolution on these things is fairly pitiful, I wonder when the day will come that there will be a "Picture Frame" that can also be used as, say, a VGA monitor or at least feed off of the USB cord in a manner rather than just storing images on a card (i.e. "real time"). To put it another way, either stand-alone or tethered.

Just a thought.

edit: Actually, I expect someone will point out such a device that already exists.

Best woot in a while! Don't hesitate, you will not regret this one. Just for a comparison Wal-Mart's best black friday deal for a digital picture frame was $39. Ten bucks more and you get way better resolution, remote, support for audio and video, and interchangeable frames. I think that's worth $10 if you ask me. Go for the 4:3 model unless you plan on cropping every single image you display.

Here's a link to a 17" frame that takes DVI-D input. Idon't think they make them any smaller:

Buy.com had a Westinghouse 8" 4:3 800x600 frame last week for $50 shipped, but this one has a few extras like a remote and speakers.

The 800M is definitely the way to go on this woot. Got one for myself--finally used my charter member reunion code too. Thanks woot!

With mpeg-4 support, the only use for the wide screen model would be using it as a tiny home theater.

I don't think you quite caught my meaning. What I was attempting to get across is a display that goes into "auto mode" (reading off of internal memory or a card) when the computer either has been turned off or is no longer feeding the display a signal. The device you mention, although nice, does not appear to do this.

How easy/difficult is this to use?

My Aunt doesn't understand a DVD player, and can barely work the cable box. Could I send her this with a filled SD card and she could simply plug it in and it will cycle through the photos? Or does it require some more setup that won't store after being unplugged and shipped?

Thanks in advance.

When you think about how little a small LCD TV or monitor costs, like a 20-inch, you might as well make that your picture frame if you're going to hook up a computer to it since a low-grade LCD monitor or TV will cost less than some of the better "picture frames" It wouldn't be standalone, of course, but you won't get a standalone picture frame at monitor size for as low as a couple hundred.

Oh fiddlesticks! Now you've got me thinking. What is the brand of computer that uses only flash memory (and some version of Linux) and is also a laptop. Isn't hugely expensive either. Perhaps that is sort of what I'm thinking about.

Send email to to woot G*ds, offering them your first born male child and an extra fifty bucks (gosh, wouldn't that nearly cover the price of the other one?) and you might get some help.

Actually, I've seen people here advise that the woot folx actually WILL help you if you mail them.

From the "write us" link at the top of the page (which also has a form you can fill out to send a message directly to them):

To attempt to change an order-in-progress, or to resolve initial post-receipt issues (other than straight return requests): service@woot.com (This is where that form on the left also goes.)

Good price for the picture quality. Most average 8" frames don't have this good of resolution and aren't close in price. Unless you have some special 16:9 obsession, get the 4:3 aspect ratio. If you want a digital picture frame, this is as good as $50 dollars will get for the size.
