I love that each .woot site is a different color scheme!

I don't mind the look and do like some of the functionality but the 1200 wide website is against very rule of designing sites. 1200 is not the accepted standard yet! At least move it down to 1024...please!

On Shirt.woot, I do like that the box next to the item picture displays a little about the artist, but
1) why do both that box and the first middle column box link to the discussion about today's shirt.woot
and
2) since the grey/black box contains information about the artist, I would expect the links on the bototm to go to discussion about the artist, not today's woot. Maybe you should title this box "About Today's Woot" rather than "Today's Woot Creator". A small thing, but it stuck out at me.

Also, is there any way to have your comment boxes have some padding? I hate seeing my text right up against the sides of this [VERY CRAMPED] comment box. Seriously, again, WHY is our comment box so cramped when there's plenty of good space where this stupid "what have you got to say for yourself" box is?

i just realized what everyone was talking about with the advertisement.
i'm using firefox with AdBlock Plus so i didn't even see the ad. Without the ad the page looks great.
I opened woot in IE and wow.

Edit: I know you gotta get your money too woot, but maybe a better placement for the ads?

So far i think the key things that need to be fixed are:

COLOR
WIDTH
ADS(for those without AdBlock)

As a fan of John Deere, I'm partial to green. However...

Maybe because it's new, it's a little unfamiliar. I think you should swap the middle and left columns, so that the product info is showcased in the center.

Not sure why but it actually looks better in Firefox 3.x than in IE 6.x on my system.

YouCantWootThis wrote:Well, the site is definitely slooooowwwwwerrrr...

Also, did Woot take this upgrade opportunity to get some Radware load balancers for this site to help with the crashing during woot-offs?

The only things I care about at this site are speed and stability (and woot's sense of humor) so I don't care about color, layout, etc.

So far, it's definitely slower...

Another issue is that YouCantWootThis's username is hanging into his/her post (on my 1400x900 external monitor in Firefox 3.1b2 on Linux, if that makes any difference).

Seriously? After doing a bit of research, it seems that at the time (and I can't find any info newer than 2007), only about 15-20% of computer users were at a screen res higher than 1024x768, compared to a 56% share for 1024. Since we're kind of in a recession, I don't think that number could have possibly sprung for a higher pixel count to let 1024+ reach the majority yet.

It makes zero sense to have a 1080px wide website, especially on a site that disqualifies Photoshop contest entries for passing the 450px guideline ;)

there were some issues previously mentioned with ie6. Adblock on firefox seems to make a really big difference.

Blech....someone hit this site with the ugly stick. Please don't tell me someone was paid for this.

Seems like change was just made for the sake of change. Don't mind the color differences, in fact I like the green over the brown and mustard color that was used before. But nowt stuff is all over the page, and I absolutely hate the wide scroll now. Reminds me of my parents using their AOL account with HUGE FONT. I agree with a previous post, have a "opt out" button so we can use the old format.

Please fix this, soon!

At least my iPhone WootOn app still has the traditional woot colors.

This green look like something from Linda Blair's stomach.

Not to mention all the netbooks with 1024 or (even worse) 800 pixel wide screens.

Don't like it at all.

Maybe it's just "immediate dislike of something new" syndrome.

Or maybe it looks just "thrown together" to me. Too much "white space," which I know is important in layout and such, but this is just too much.

The description isn't set off from the other stuff at all.

I liked the old design much better.

Also, the ads look intrusive now, and they are "in the way" instead of "tucked neatly on the side" where they looked optional and mysterious.

Finally. It's not pretty.

Go gators! Go Hokies!

Same here! (Also Linux, running minefield) Also noticed it with pictures in one of the shirt threads.

It stinks.

I'm so tired of developers that take a perfectly logical, simple, clear, easy-to-use site like the previous Woot.com, and muck it up by trying to put too much stuff on one page.

And what's worse, it doesn't fit on a 1024-pixel screen. I detest sites that force you to horizontally scroll to see the whole thing.

I'm a lot less likely to use Woot now. As far as I'm concerned, you ruined it.

What was the point? You did not add value, you subtracted it, and forced your users to learn a new interface when the old one was just fine.

It would be cool if on the homepage where you have the "Discussion on Today's Woot" box showing the comment thread and it shows a comment stating:

"TJP740 spots a PDF manual."

to have the link to the pdf active from the homepage box and not just a click thru link to the post ID here:

http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=2918984&PageIndex=2&ReplyCount=323#post2919160

I'm sure that this is probably done to increase your page views to make me click thru to the forum and then hit the external link...but it would be more convenient if I could just do it from the home page.

I miss being able to go directly to the last post in a thread. But it is nice that when you click on a username, you get some (currently incoorect) user info instead of the old error message.

I hope the wider format means wider pics allowed in the photochop contest.

The boards seem slower, but that is probably because of 7 pages of comments in a few hours.

There are about a million ugly inconveniences at shirt.woot. Sure, it's nice to link reckoning and make accessing the derby clearer, but the cramped derby, tiny forum/sig texts, awkward side deal locations, headache inducing forum color schemes (seriously, have you heard of contrast?), massive amounts of ads, illogically wide site, repositioning of reckoning browser functions, etc etc etc are REALLY inconvenient for an already broken site.

Redesigns should IMPROVE a site. This really just feels incredibly sloppy. The number of inconvenient ugliness issues far outweigh the number of legit fixes.

On the plus side, this all makes my blog layout look like a friggin' renaissance etching.

quality posts: 0 Private Messages guder

I like the layout, but it looks like you need tweaking in adding some orange back as balance (too much green & too many shades of green). Also play with the verbiage section... your normally impressive text feels lost like the writers went into the Grand Canyon with a shovel expecting to fill it.

That said, I do like the space, and perhaps it'll feel better after some tweaks. My eyes are currently hurting over viewing it now.

A few items wooted, a number more to go...

L to the O to the L, just when i thought the old woot design was as ugly as it could get out goes orange puke and in comes green puke!

Worst part about it is I will grow to accept and then like then love it then they will change colors to brown and orange or some other color combo.

Please don't delete this post, I am trying, honest!

Don't really mind the green (odd, 'cause I hate green). Despite the arrow from the white top to green bottom, there's a disconnect - they don't have the same continuity of the old design. I DO like the sales stats on the main page - but DON'T like the ads right in the middle - too busy.

The wideness isn't an issue for me (I have a large monitor), but it would REALLY annoy me on anything less - which means I won't be checking Woot, when I'm not at home anymore.

Also - I miss the corner side-deal - especially since the attempt to see an Illinois senate seat - I keep looking for more laughs there...

page is too wide.
too hard to read text with old eyes......need more contrast or a bigger font.

I like the tattle button better than the old report button in the forums.
I also like the way the product picture pops up full size.

Over all, good job. I am curious to know if the woot-off light will be green now instead of Yellow.

About the Color's, BLEECHHH! Woot!'s green is just horrible, I had to check to see if my bookmark was correct.... Shirt.woot! and Sellout.woot!'s colors are not NEARLY so OBNOXIOUS.

Bring back the old colors I saw this morning for Woot!

Umm... well. It's green and mad wide.

I think it looks like one of those website templates you can pull off for free from online. Also, I don't like that the product description requires significant scrolling down the page on my part.

I think its normal for for any new website/feature to be disliked. Nonetheless, me no likey.

wow, it's HORRID!

way too green, which doesn't match the woot theme at all... I mean, at least shirt is blue, and sellout is purple... but green? Ever just think about breadsticks??

and it forcibly wide... wider than I usually keep my browser window...

so now it looks just like every other site on the net, and it's annoying... w00p!

I'm surprised at how many people have mentioned the left right scrolling thing. Maybe time to dial up the resolution, or give up on the old 1994 CRT. Maybe this is all just an evil scheme to boost sales for an upcoming monitor...

In any case I don't think it's as bad as everyone's making it out to be, but somehow I feel a woot! 3.1 coming on.

Dude, no most people have 1024x768. And this site renders pretty bad on that. It's not good practice to design a site that will not render on the most common screen resolutions.

That's not far off in today's numbers. I admin a site with over 50,000 unique vistitors/month, and 1024x768 is the most common resolution of my visitors. It is for Woot too I'm sure. They messed up.

On my home (Vista) computer, I'm getting this error on Woot (and only Woot):
Your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. Click here for options...

It's not asking to install an ActiveX, just giving that info bar. Wasn't doing it on my XP computer at work.
