My understanding is that component will only yield a maximum output of 1080i where the HDMI will yield 1080p giving it a higher resolution. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, I would love to know because I have both cables. I guess I'm pretty safe just putting HDMI anyways.

If you have both, you should generally go with HDMI. It is definitely the better cable. Just don't pay $50 for one at the store when you can get one for < $10 online. http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10243

I got my TV yesterday, let it get up to room temp for a couple hours before plugging it in, cold here in OH----IO. TV works great, i love the 120HTZ feature, it did take a couple hours of getting used to but it makes everything look almost 3d in a way, the movements seem different but it makes them "pop" out of the screen. i watched a little college basketball and some law and order, both looked great in HD. I feel for the poeple who got one DOA, i would be pissed, just hope it holds up. Thanx Woot.

Found a site to explain DVI vs. HDMI vs. Component Video a bit better (doesn't help much though, l o l).

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/122868.html

Some Quotes:

"DVI/HDMI and Component Video are all video standards which support a variety of resolutions, but which deliver the signal from the source to the display in very different ways. The principal important difference is that DVI/HDMI deliver the signal in a digital format, much the same way that a file is delivered from one computer to another along a network, while Component Video is an analog format, delivering the signal not as a bitstream, but as a set of continuously varying voltages representing (albeit indirectly, as we'll get to in a moment) the red, green and blue components of the signal."

"So, which is better, DVI or component? HDMI or component? The answer--unsatisfying, perhaps, but true--is that it depends. It depends upon your source and display devices, and there's no good way, in principle, to say in advance whether the digital or the analog connection will render a better picture. You may even find, say, that your DVD player looks better through its DVI or HDMI output, while your satellite or cable box looks better through its component output, on the same display. In this case, there's no real substitute for simply plugging it in and giving it a try both ways."

Achievement Unlocked: Retail Therapy (the wife kicked me to the curb on 17 January). Chuck with SEKO arrived this morning and after going through his (joking) spiel involving showing me that it was a curbside delivery, he and I lugged it up to my 2nd floor apartment. He then told me the story about a delivery he made in Northern Colorado yesterday, that involved a guy shoveling about 150' of 10" snowdrifts out of his driveway so that Chuck could help him get his TV into his home. Nice guy, that Chuck.

Got the TV up and running (HDMI for the Dish Network box and XBox, cable coming from monoprice.com today for the DVD player). First test of the 120Hz picture was Game 3 of last year's Conference Semifinals between the Wings and the Avs (attended the game in person, saw my head and Yzerman jersey in the crowd many times as we were 2 rows off the ice, one of those times when my wife's style of irrational decision making worked out in my favor). STUNNING. This TV is made to broadcast hockey in HD.

Very happy I didn't get a DOA. Had already signed up for the squaretrade 2-year extended warranty (using the SUPERBOWL promotion, as mentioned here in this thread).

From what I've read, distilled:

* It's possible to run 1080p over component cables themselves, although I suppose not every TV supports on the component connections.

* That said - there's no 1080p broadcast television out there right now.

* The only 1080p content you'll get is from blu-ray... and seeing as HDMI connections have built-in DRM, you're not likely going to find any blu-ray players that output 1080p over the component connections -- it will get downscaled.

I received mine today (UP of Michigan). No issues with screen quality. Looks great other than a few tweaks to the settings. Everything is hooked up via component cables (Cable, XBOX360, Wii).

I too also have marks on the corner of the black bezel around the screen. I too am trying to figure out a solution to cleaning them off. I'm afraid they may be permanent marks...

I'll post if have a solution, or would love to know if someone has a solution.

I've read a couple threads on avsforum.com (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=15548910)

It sounds like the only recourse is a plastic polisher. I'm heading to the store to pick up some Novus plastic polisher to see if that takes care of the scratches (apparently they aren't smudges). Even though I'm happy with the TV, I really would like to get the scratches gone, since they are very noticeable on each corner of the bezel.

I never got the email about signing up for the extended warranty... Did you have to go to Square Trade's website to get it? Let me know because I'm definately interested.

Got my TV yesterday. Looks great so far. Nothing in HD yet because the Cable company won't get their act together...

Seko delivered mine today. No damage, picture and sound are awesome!

HDMI input (1080i) from DirecTV box.
HMDI input (1080p) from the Blu-Ray player.

Toslink (optical) audio connections from the DirecTV box and from Blu-Ray player to Onkyo receiver (older model w/o hdmi).

It's great how this reduces the previous clutter of wires behind the entertainment unit.

Will still need to mess with the tv settings, and update the firmware.

Got mine today and just finished mounting it and hooking everything up. Picture is great and I'm stoked. The only thing I can complain about is not having a standard analog audio out on the back (only digital audio out). I have a lower end Bose sound system that only accepts analog.

I had to go to Radio Shack and pick up a 1/8" mini plug to dual RCA (stereo) cable and use the headphone jack on the side panel to get audio out to my Bose system. Who's using that headphone jack for headphones anyway?

I couldn't find any Novus brand plastic repair solution locally (that's what was recommended in avsforum.com), so I found some Meguiars Plastic Care #17 and #18 at Auto Value. Total cost $17.00...yes kind of pricey.

#17 is called a "cleaner". It is used to fix fine scratches in plastics. It seems similar to cd repair solutions. Essentially, you treat it similar to waxing a car, wax on, wax off - you get the idea.

It seemed to clear up some of my scratches. #18 is a "Detailer", it's for cleaning day to day (I was talked into getting it by the clerk at Auto Value). What I should have gotten was the #10 polisher, which is for use after using #17.

Ok, so now, I have applied #17 and it is quite a bit better looking than before. I'll try to get some polisher before I make my final verdict...but I just wanted to update you all.

It seems to have helped considerably. I still don't have any polish, which I assume acts as a sealer.

Once I polish it, I'll let you know if I think it's worth doing. At this point it does seem to help, but it hasn't totally eliminated all of the scratches. I'll apply it again when I get some polish and let you all know.

So mine came today....it actually came early. I followed all the instructions (actually ran to walmart to get a surge protector), then finally plugged it in and it worked beautifully! On screen instructions were very easy to follow to set it up. The cable guy came shortly after and hooked up the HD. It looks amazing. I am now watching a movie and finally understand what people are talking about with "looking weird". But I think it's pretty cool. It looks 3-d. I definately will have to get used to it, but I think it's awesome. Good luck everyone else!

My Seko delivery is estimated to arrive today and I still haven't received a phone call!!!

I called them this morning and they said the snow storm put them behind a day and they still haven't "recovered" it yet. A foot of fluffy snow has never stopped me from going anywhere!

I'm dying over here.

UPDATE:
They called me later in the afternoon and had it delivered to my house by 6:00pm! TV looks great. Has some sticky marks on the frame, as if pieces of tape had been on it for a while. Can't complain for the price.

Oh yeah. Batteries didn't come with the remote and it's needed to perform the initial setup. Make sure you have 2 AAA around.

I'm beginning the think that those of us who got the tv's with the scratches/scuff marks on it are the lucky ones. And that there was no previous problem with the tv itself, on the apperance on the frame.

Has anyone updated the firmware yet? Are there any big improvements from it?

Yeah that could be the case, the TV itself works great. Though mine is running the latest firmware. The older firmwares were very buggy, which is probably why a good number of these were returned. I believe the latest firmware is 1.15, to check your firmware version if you didn't already know is something like: Menu > Installation > Software version (I can't remember if it's entirely right).

When I get off work I'll pick up some polish and see if that takes care of the scratches.

You're order status on Woot will not change. Go to http://www.sekoworldwide.com/ look on the left side where it shows a spot to put in your tracking number. Change that to "shipper reference" and put in your order number from on Woot. It should bring up your tracking info. If it doesn't, I would call. Wow... Seko = SH*T

They called to setup a time for the 26th. They cancel on the 26th. So, they setup another time for the 27th, 28th at the very latest. They don't deliver due to bad weather (understandably)... So, again they reschedule for the 29th... guess what. Nope again!!! So, now I'm to the point of driving to their location to pick up my TV (over a hour away).

All this and I still don't know if it will be DOA!!!

As others have reported, I also have these 'scuff marks' on the bezel. Cosmetic blemishes which I'm sure I can get out with a little polish. I don't think mine had any mechanical issues to 'retinker'.

My unit came with firmware 1.13 and I flashed it to 1.15 - though I didn't observe any problems with the unit before, during, nor after flash updating. It's easy, just RTFI.

Read the notes to see what various issues each update addressed:

I got my tv delivered from Seko today. I am happy to report that I received a great tv. I'm still trying to find the optimum setting for the picture. TV has AWESOME sound. I too have the smudge marks on the edges... I'll have to try out some of the suggestions that have been posted to try to remove them (though they don't bother me too much). The 3D effect is taking some getting used to. I'm sorry to hear that some people received lemons when they opened the box.

You selected "New" as the product condition, but you need to select "Other" since it's refurbished. By selecting new, you may void your service agreement. You can get 2 years for $99 with the coupon code.

I'm having a problem that I haven't seen described here yet. Occasionally the image will suddenly expand vertically (i.e. the picture becomes stretched). It generally lasts for a few seconds then goes back to normal. It generally does this a few times (maybe 2-3 times) in an hour. It's not what I'd consider catastrophic, but it's definitely annoying.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Would this be addressed with a software update? I don't know what version mine has, but I can check when I get home later.

Try changing the picture format from automatic to unscaled. I haven't had anything exactly like that happen, but if you are using firmware below 1.15 it may be worth a shot.

I can't get the tv's speakers to work, no sound without having it hooked up to my receiver. Anybody else have this issue?? Mine also came with scratches along the black trim around the front of the set. Picture is nice, the set is much bigger than I anticipated. If I could get the speakers to work, I would consider this a good deal, but I am not looking forward to trying to get this fixed through the 90 day warranty...

Hey Woot, how bout checkin out what your selling before sending out broken junk to folks. How would you like it if your momma was to end up buying one of these things?

I don't know if I recommend Wooting if there is a high probability of a nightmare.

Fortunately, I can get it to work out as it is, and I learned a valuable $900 lesson.

I have never posted about any other item I've bought on this site. So, it says a lot about this product when I get on here twice to expletive deletive about what an awful experience I’ve had with this purchase. That being said…

Yes, my TV finally came, after many calls to the shipping company Seko outsources to in this part of the country. They cancelled my delivery 3 times before I told them I would come pick it up. After letting them know I would be there the next day, they promised me they would have it there before 4:00 the following day (01/30/09). 4:02 driver calls to tell me he’s about 30-40 minutes out (no big deal, its finally freaking here!). BTW, the driver for Southeastern Freight Lines was very friendly and helped put the box in the back of my truck. So, here it is I have, I really have it. I open it and see the marks on the edges. Seeing the marks almost makes me happy because of the posts here saying that most the TV with marks worked just fine. BUT! HAHA too bad for you! I got the marks and its DOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MF…

I talked to Philips and they are sending me another TV within two weeks. TWO WEEKS damnit the Super Bowl is in TWO DAYS!

THANKS WOOT!!!

Watch my account, see how long it is before I buy something else from you. I am curious to know just who the hell checks the items you put up for sell? Do you just pick from random sellers? Do you just have random people show up with a truck full of expletive deletive and buy it from them? Better yet, does a blind-deaf-paraplegic check the product before you put them up for sell?
