Never fails... ever notice that Woot always trots out a POS home theater system after a Woot=off - when they have everyone's full attention?

$150 (new) on Amazon... Nice system, nothing spectacular though :-(

I have one of these for my home theater system. It works great, and the speakers sound crisp and clean. Good price, too.

I have one and I love it. Great for an apartment, might be a bit on the small side for anything larger.

It's really not a bad system or price if you have no problems with refurbs.....

K so before this showed up on the woot-off, there was another 5.1 system, where a few people expressed their dismay at the THD of that system. Then this one came up with no mention of THD. It still doesn't mention any THD.
Now, I have no idea what THD is, but it sounded important, so does anybody know what the THD is on this system?

Ha! Ni förstår inte detta! Det går inte att censurera nåt om ni inte förstår det! Ha! Där fick ni!

HEY!!!?? What happened to my comment?? It disappeared after 10 seconds of being posted??? I'll try again! Does this puppy work with my Samsung 40 inch HD TV? or does it have to be a Philips? Dummer than adoorknob in North Dakota when it comes to this kind of stuff.

When you upgrade your system, what do you do with the old system?

Have one similar to this, sounds good but not compatible if you want to switch speakers around--has really weird speaker connections that arent' adaptable to switching the speakers out. Other than that sounds good

I got a pair of Energy C-100 bookshelf speakers http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=7514 from woot, but have no amp to use them with. Would it be a good idea for me to buy this and plug in my C-100s or should I wait for something else?

I know nothing about acoustic technologies.

This will work with your Samsung just fine.

Went in for this one. I was irked at missing the Pioneer $150 one during the Woot-off Thursday. This will do just as nicely, and even has an Ipod dock. Great budget option for a starter HTIB for my new apartment.

I have one, and trust me, there's a reason why they have so many refurbished, they last about 1-3 months.... I know, I had two of them. Got one, went bad, took it back under warranty, second one went bad said screw it.

"Frequency response: 180-14000 Hz"

...Does this bother anyone else, or is it just me?

Even the satellites go to 150 Hz - and on that note, the subwoofer is only rated from 40-150 Hz.

No, this unit has proprietary speaker connections, so unless you are up to splicing cut wires together, it would be in your best interest to steer clear of this particular unit in favor of something with a more traditional speaker-wire connection. Good luck. I always wondered if the Energy-C speakers were worth it, but I have so many extra speakers and home theater components lying around as it is...

You are probably refering to THX. THX is mainly a quality assurance system. THX-certified theaters provide a high-quality, predictable playback environment to ensure that any film soundtrack mixed in THX will sound as near as possible to the intentions of the mixing engineer. I don't know if this system has it.

Great system bought mine over a year ago at Target for about $150.

A couple things to note about this system:

I cannot (or have yet to find) a universal remote that works with this. Because of the way Philips made the system turn on (by using the source buttons as power buttons) the universals I have tried don't work. Some will turn it on in line in mode and thats it. If anyone had found a remote that works let me know!

USB port will accept flash drives and the system will play DIVX. Very handy.

Overall well worth it.

I Woot, therefore, I am.

I bought one of these a few months back. Volume is very good (usually have it between 2 and 4 in my bedroom). Nice system for the money. I have top end Onkyo w/Cambridge Sound Works speakers for my home theater, but for the bedroom I really like this. Good sound. Even better price. A good buy

It appears to use some sort of plug for the speaker connections instead of the more standard terminals you just put the wires into... that said on the other side of the plug is regular wire, accessible by any kind of wire stripper. So you could make it work. You'd want to review the power requirements of your speakers and compare them to the power this unit supplies, of course (if both speakers are 8 Ohm, you can compare wattage numbers straight up, otherwise you will need to do some math).

But then you'd have an extra pair of Philips speakers sitting around, and no amp to use them with. So you'd need to buy the next home theater Woot offers, and set yourself into a never-ending cycle until they offer an amp by itself.

Seriously, you probably could do it, but I don't know if you'd want to. If you are itching to use your speakers and want an all-in-one home theater to do it with, go for it, otherwise you could find a standalone receiver/amp that will probably perform better, but you could easily spend a lot more doing it.

-can you plug a hard drive in and watch movies off of that? also, did you try a harmony remote?(I have the 880 and wondering if I would be able to get it to work with this)

THD is Total Harmonic Distortion. You want the lowest number for this value.

Overstock has it for $154.95 (refurb), although there seems to be a lot of sites offering it for the same $99.95 as woot - makes you wonder why there are so many of these available as a refur! Too bad no one gives the nice detailed specs (such as THD).

photography is fun. My personal photography site.

Bought one of these the last time they came around... really nice little system, great for a small room or apartment. No complaints to make.
