juicius, I'm in MI, buy me one and I'll stream to ya ;)

Could someone out there explain in "laymens" terms what this does? First why would you want to watch tv on your pc anyway when you can watch regular tv? Does this device somehow take the signal you are getting from your satelite box and send it to another tv somewhere else in your house? Sorry, I guess I'm just not cumputer savvy enough to understand what it does. I hope someone out there is willing to explain so us non nerd types can "get it".

This works with your existing cable service and your computer? Yes?
My DVD player just died and I have a DVD burner and player on my computer, is this a good alternative to buying a new DVD player? I was wanting to upgrade to a DVDR for the TV.

I want one of these, does anyone know if it will still work well with less bandwidth??

It will probably still work but it will likely be very slow and/or skip frames.

How well does this work with a lower upload speed. Will it stutter or just go to lower resolution?

I'm confused about what this can do. I have to pay for cable to get internet (it's cheaper than just internet, ask Comcast why), but I don't have a TV (and don't want one). But if I'm paying for it anyway... So, can I use this to transmit video from my cable box to my laptop without having a television?

so it has better quality than a slingbox? that really cool. that makes me want to get this a bit more.

I'm far from a total techno zero, but I don't have a freaking clue as to what this gizmo might do for me!!!

Sometimes I wish Woot would cut the sophomoric humor and use the bandwidth to simply explain the features and benefits.

Hook it up to your home cable box then you can control your cable box remotely from anywhere in the world over the Internet. Say you're on vacation in Siberia (and they have high-speed Net). You can bring up the HAVA software on your laptop and watch your local home cable. If you have a DVR at home you can control that too.

The HAVA box has three advantages over the SlingBox:

1. They are the only place-shift boxes that work with the Nokia N8XX Internet Tablets.

2. They support multiple, simultaneous connections.

3. Includes WiFi.

Can anyone confirm that you can record directly to an external hard drive attached to the HAVA.

You can use anything that you can plug in to the composite or component ports. It doesn't even have to be a video source, it can be just an audio source.

Found a good thread about this over at The Green Button.

Highlights:
Quality is good
It's a bandwidth hog
Works in Windows Media Center
Only one HAVA device supported on a network
Will record HD at 480p and preserve aspect ratio
Cannot record at 1080p

According to that thread, a firmware update may allow 720p on this hardware, and a future product is rumored to support 1080p. I'm going to pass on this one, but it looks like a solid product at that price, if you're in the need of this functionality!

Edit: found the firmware update that allows 720p recording. Going to sleep on this one. If it's still here in the morning, I'm in for one.

Above is a ZD net side by side comparison with other sling type players.

Tempting...no HDMI kills it for me - I'd like to watch it on my TV too and get rid of Direct TV's POS DVR.

Um, sure sounds like it. But since you don't have a tv to begin with, just buy a tuner card for your computer and bypass all the fuss. But uh... wait, then technically you'd have a tv, which you didn't want in the first place.

Why do I bother?
