Seems like a few here have this, or at least have poured through the reviews. So...my question:

My PVR has 2 tuners. Let's say both tuners are recording a show at the same time. Can I use this HAVA to watch a 3rd show while the other 2 are recording? In other words, does the HAVA turn my 2 tuner PVR into a 3 tuner?

Yes, you can transmit video to your laptop withouth having a television. Note that there is a pass-through on the Hava Titanium to feed back to your TV if you had close by to the Hava box.

FYI - The ir blaster fix for it to work in MCE doesn't work with Vista 64-bit. It picks up the video fine, but MCE doesn't find a way for it to control the channel and you can't get past that in the setup. I'm assuming they'll fix that soon since they're pretty good about software updates.

This is a steal. I have an older version of this and it works great with my Dish 722. I use it every day to watch the news from my office. Mine is a Pinnacle but I get software updates from the Hava website. I paid 3 or 4 hundred dollars for mine.

Only negatives are that it is not true 1080p or 1080i resolution on the computer (but it still looks very good) and there is a bit of a delay so the remote control commands lag a bit.

I'm in for one... seems like a really good deal. Now I'll just need to get another external HD

One question... Does anyone know if you can have multiple feeds coming into this thing at once? For instance, the cable box AND the DVD player, AND the camcorder, or whatnot?

That might just be me, though.

Component video input isn't really a downgrade. At least not in terms of video. Component video is fully capable of handling 1080p. It of course can't carry audio on the same cable like HDMI though.

That said, connections are a moot point since the device isn't going to be broadcasting at full HD video/sound anyway.

So, a simple question. I have a number of 'spare' USB drives lying around. Could I buy this, hook it up to my DirectTV box, and record shows onto the drive? Then I could just disconnect the sucker, plug it into my PC, and watch at my leisure.

Will this do that?

You will NOT receive a a live HD stream from any commercial device over the current bandwidth service providers are giving us. What you will receive is a quality live video stream not in HD.

Here is a list of Negatives about the Hava Titanium HD

I just received this unit 3 days ago and have learned several points not widely talked about.

1) Unlike my Slingbox - this unit has NO program guide whatsoever! Major disappointment!

2) Audio quality is not as good as my Slingbox but acceptable for regular TV viewing.

3) Recording to a PC works but you can't schedule it, just real-time recording.

4) Recording to the USB drive has 2 Major limitations. A- Recorded shows are only viewable over the LOCAL LAN, not over the net when you're away from home. (REDICULOUS!) B- You can only schedule ONE EVENT AT A TIME, and NOT REOCCURRING!
-----------

This said, there are several positives over my original Slingbox Classic.

1) Picture quality is slightly better in my experience.

2) It will do HD, but I don't have an HD source to test it.

3) The Windows Mobile player is FREE for Hava. The Mobile Sling player is $30 bucks.
----------

Final Notes:

A new version of the Hava PC Player software just became available this morning, but it does NOT address any of the negative points I mentioned.

One FIX that does come in this update gives me a hint at just how BETA this software really is. They just figured out that when in full screen mode, it might be a good idea to HIDE THE CURSOR! Geez. So, if you can deal with all this, there is hope that they might just live up to what the phone techsupport told me-- that they are planning on adding all the missing features I mentioned.

I have a PS3 which does the streaming from my PC to TV.

Paulwallbaby wrote:I'd like to know a specific on what this does...

I know Slingbox streams video from your cable/satellite to a computer, I'm assuming this does the same?

I would buy one if it can stream HD videos stored on my home PC to my home TV. I have a modified Xbox 1 (original xbox), and I use it to stream movies from my PC to my TV, however, the Xbox 1 isn't powerful enough for HD. I've been looking for a device that has a nice interface that can stream movies from my computer to my pc - in HD.

I watch the current episodes of TV shows, sporting event or news broadcast as it happens with my Hava. Also SLing, ORB and Hava were around before Hulu and continue to sell so where do you get this short lifespan BS? There are services that will rent you SLing access right now and are doing quite well with that business model. Again another person talking just to be talking. smh

No, this does not include a tuner. It streams video from one of your existing tuners to your computer. Whatever you can see on your TV would be sent to your computer.

Since the article, at least one update has been made: you can now use external USB drives - a feature not available at review time

Highligts:
- if yours has a hum, return it for an updated one

- a Slingbox is not

- hard to setup

- lousy by script only support from India

- good viewing streaming wirelessly to pcs inside your home - not so good for viewing remotely (outside your home) via internet

- recording features (at time of review) could NOT be made scheduled remotely

For what I'm looking to use it (internal use), I'm in for one.
Will report back

What they do not mention in the review is that the writer is the brother of the CEO of Slingbox.

I have Windows XP MCE, can't I just use Media Center to do multiple scheduled recordings, or is it a limitation of the box, itself? Even better question, if I were to remote view over the internet, would I be able to use Media Center to watch tv and schedule recordings, or is it a more, you can only watch live tv deal (as in, did they ever update this feature)?

Can you use an HD video camera as source instead of cable box or satellite? I want to stream directly from the recording video camera to a computer and also allow for playback while recording. It would be cool to be able to burn DVD on the spot after recording is finished.

It might work out cheaper if you just bought a tuner for your PC.

The hava DOES NOT have a tuner itself, you will need to buy one. It is wifi though so you will not need a cable from it to your computer.

If your TV has a video output, you might be able to plug that into the HAVA, and then stream to your PC.

Cannot record at 1080p

According to that thread, a firmware update may allow 720p on this hardware, and a future product is rumored to support 1080p. I'm going to pass on this one, but it looks like a solid product at that price, if you're in the need of this functionality!

Edit: found the firmware update that allows 720p recording. Going to sleep on this one. If it's still here in the morning, I'm in for one.

I've already purchased it... but THIS really ticks me off (from the have forums)

"You would only be able to access the Recordings saved on the external HDD attached to HAVA only on the PCs connected in the same network where HAVA is Physically Connected. The Attached HDD does not work as a Network Storage drive or does not show as a removable HDD on any of the computers in the network. It is read by HAVA and can be accessed only through HAVA PC Player that too when connected in Local Viewing Mode."

Their video on the product page doesn't say this.. it says you can watch recorded video on external devices like phones, etc. If this is accurate they're misrepresenting the product... or maybe it just means you have to Copy the files!?

Or maybe you are stuck at the airport in a blizzard and going crazy listening to the CNN recorded broadcast for the millionth time.

Or maybe you have kids and Grandma's doesn't have cable or decent kids shows on.

The only requirement would be that you take a computer with you or one is at your destination. If you don't have that you are screwed anyway.

Yes, many of the USB hard drives or thumb drives are compatible with the Titanium. The drive has to be formatted as FAT32 and therefore limits you to 4 GIG files at the highest video quality (adjustable to allow long recording times) The video files will be in MPEG2 format with decent quality audio. You can take the USB drive to a PC and play back the video there with no restrictions. Any video, whether PPV, Premium or regular TV is recordable. Though the Titanium does not support true HD, it will downsample to 480p, I believe, which is still very viewable. Scheduling of shows is the current major disadvantage of this recording process to a USB drive. You can only schedule one show at a time, designating the channel to record. The included IR blaster will change to the channel at the selected time and record for the time interval you have manually entered. We are hopeful that Monsoon will eventually add full EPG along with a good scheduling feature as with commercial PVR software apps with BeyondTV and SAGETV. Haven't tried the Media Center option yet with my Titanium since I still run Windows XP Professional. Enough rambling from my standpoint. I enjoy the Hava Titanium I have previously purchased for close to 3-times the cost of Woots price today. - Craig

A picture would be icing on the cake. I read on Hava's site that one of its partners is Microsoft. I hope this does not mean that they are excluding the Iphone. (Bill Gates has banned his family from having Ipods, Iphones, etc. and any employee caught with one will be executed on the spot.) Does anyone know about a possible App being in the works for the Iphone. Thanks.

Recently watched the Final 4 while in Brazil and my Hava was in USA. While sports can be a little jumpy at times depending on upload speeds, it fits its need.

Also was able to watch shows that had been recorded on my Directv DVR. This is a great price for this unit. Might have to pick up a 2nd one.
