Eh, worst woot I have seen yet. OK, I take that back, the Iron was the worst woot ever; this is second.

I hate sushi and everyone I know that like it actually goes out to restaurants or pick up places to get it so this would be useless.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (what? I'm from Philly, we boo everything.)

Insert standard idiotic woot suggestion here (speakers, B.O.C., etc., etc.)

Boo that chump, Terrell Owens. No Superbowl win for Philly ever with that selfish loser on the payroll.

As much as I love the tech stuff too, the bottom line is Woot needs to make money. If I recall, all the George Foremans sold out. So did the Auto Emergency kits, and I am sure a few more of your "LAME" products. Anything that keeps Woot alive so they bring back another 50" Ultra-Thin DLP television is find with me....

Ha ha ha...you really think Woot is living on the knife's edge between profit and loss? That's rich. Woot is doing just fine, I'm sure...I just want their purchasing guys to be a bit more targeted in their deal-making, that's all.

.....darn I wish I still had a shot at the ironing kit.... BUT, on a happier note, I have been *SOOOOO* waiting for a sushi kit!! Sushi can be anything you want -- even dessert sushis, or plain veggie sushi or meat eaters sushi. Or the seafood (cooked and uncooked) kind. IE rolled rice krispy treats with chocolate fudge layer. or peanut butter and chocolate fudge layer - and still sprinkle with sesame seeds for decoration.

Or you can make cold cut 'sushi' with pastrami or corned beef slices, mustard and rye bread cutouts. or any combination cold cuts.

Point is, this is such a useful tool. I have been waiting a while for a decent kit that wasnt an arm and a leg.... The Joyce Chen kits are *ridiculously* expensive.
Even cheap stores like Marshall's or Home Goods can't sell these for less than 19.00 or 20.00 dollars.

Any asian market store will supply you with all you need for seaweed paper (nori) rices, pickled ginger, **wasabi!!*** (get the powdered in a can kind, not the paste in a tube) and all the other cool ingredients.

Its only my second purchase on WooT and I can say that I'm really satisfied. Best of luck in your sushi making!! And remember to think outside the (bento) box!!

Last time I had sushi in this town, it was expensive and the rice was not fully cooked. Ever eat uncooked rice? Check that...Ever eat something that wasn't supposed to be hard and crunchy. With fresh seafood, this will make great woot. Thanks,

FYI: SASHIMI is raw fish sushi...Sushi itself is NOT raw fish and NOT the same as HandRolls which require other type of equipment.

Sorry for all the elctronic fanatics out there, but Woot never said it was only selling those stuff and I give Woot props for bringing bargains from all walks of life ~_~

Looks like a bargain and I think I'm in for a few... one for me and some gifts this upcoming ho-ho-holiday season for sushi-liking friends. Someone said earlier the dishes alone would cost more than the $10, and that's exactly why I'm in for some. But if you dont want the dishes you can get some sushi nori and the mat for a few bucks at an asian market, throw in some chopsticks and you're out the $10 this woot costs and didn't get any dishes to make it look pretty.

Sushi is pretty easy to make once you know how to cook the rice and make it stick ("Sushi" = "sticky rice"). I just recently impressed the crap out of my workplace when we had to bring a dish and I brought a dessert sushi made with rice cooked with coconut milk and sugar, with kiwis and strawberries wrapped in homemade chocolate crepes, with apricot & grand marnier sauce for dipping... but I didn't have any sushi dishes so I brought them in a cake pan. Had this woot happened 3 weeks ago I could have had appropriate dishes...

Bought 2 of them

mainly 'cause I'm a big fan of sushi, and the rice molds might be handy... also, i've been using place matts for a roller up until now :)

i just had a sushi party actually.

dont mind my hair. and yes, i made it all. Shrimp Tampura rolls, avacado tampura rolls, phili rolls, california rolls... no sashimi grade tuna in my area, so all "safe" food.

Good stuff!

I cobbled together a little data-collector program and ran it over the past hour. It tracked 50 unique buyer names for that period, and the graph shows 2%. My quick back-of-the-envelope calculations lead me to speculate that something over two thousand have already sold. Might even be a lot more.

Take that, whiners!

Just to educate people:

Sushi: a general term that has become popular to describe all of the sushi food. Not all of it is raw fish. Battered shrimp (shrimp-tempura), eel, octopus, cooked egg yolk, cucumber, avacado, battered onions/potatoes/zucchini (tempura), cream cheese, fish eggs are among some of the things that are used as fillings.

Maki-sushi (or Mako-sushi): the standard roll - rice with vegetables and/or fish (cooked or uncooked), rolled with seaweed. Maki I believe is with the seawood rolled on the inside while Mako is with seaweed rolled on the outside

Nigiri-sushi: balled up rice with a small layer of wasabi on top with a sliver of raw fish

Sashimi-sushi: no rice, just the sliver of fish

There are other spellings and definitions. Sushi can also be spelled as zushi. Here is a Sushi FAQ I foudn while checking my assumptions. http://www.sushifaq.com/sushi.htm

And like some have said previously, you can also make dessert sushi, with fruit rolled up with rice, among other creations.

I've been following Woot for a long time now, and been very tempted to purchase some things in the past, but have withheld, as I knew that they were things I could live without. I'm a very experimental cook at home and have been gearing myself up to learn how to make my own sushi. This woot item came at the most perfect time for me. I'm so glad to see Woot expanding their ideas on what to offer.

Great job Woot team.

I couldn't agree more. Ignore all those idiots who just want the high-tech gadgets. I like those high-tech woots, like the projector, which im very pleased with (just arrived yesterday), but I am also thrilled to see something as unique as a sushi making kit (who knows, maybe live animals are next :p ) But seriously we all know diversity makes the world a better place. I'm a sushi roller, it's sorta been a hobby of mine for a while (my hubby and I are both cheap and love sushi, and this is a good alternative) but I've never made my way beyond rolling things like fake crab up, so I can't wait to try out those little molds! Hurry, hurry, woot gods!
