So when it says child safe, how child safe is that?

Transport (or shipping in this case) won't make them anymore volatile or likely to go off, will it? I know they are designed to spray with quite a bit of force once used and it would suck to order these and just have a soggy package show up...

Are these safe to store in the trunk of my car? Do they lose effectiveness if they are stored in extreme heat or cold?

Quite handy to keep one in the car. You may not save your own hide, but you never know when you'll be called on to save someone else's.

So... has anyone tested this out? If you have, please tell the whole story.

So I can put out fires with this? How big of a fire? How do I know where to draw the line and call 911? I am on the fence with this.

These are perfect for the kitchen. I have one and it literally "saved my bacon" once. Well actually the bacon wasn't saved but it did put out the grease fire.

Are you kidding? I just bought one on Saturday for $20. Sigh.

Everybody, get one and put it NEAR your stove, but NOT next to it. Think about it for a second... if you've got to reach over your burning stove to get the extinguisher, what good is it?

Put the other one in your garage or your car.

They lose effectiveness/charge/pressure over time. Have them regularly checked. At the very least, once a year. Replace as necessary.

These look better than most of the fundraiser ones you usually see..

Keep on of these around every corner...spending $35.00 on 6 extinguishers is a lot less than spending money on a new house.

How far of a range do these bad boys have??? don't want to be burned in the process...

It means the cap prevents the canister from having children. Of course, no such method is 100% guaranteed.

Many dry chem extinguishers are ABC rated.

Never thought I'd need one till my house caught on fire. Sho 'nuff. Came in might handy. Didn't plan on the house catching on fire. Glad the extinguisher I thought I'd never use was there...

No, thanks! I'll stay with a UL approved fire extinguisher. At least I know what I'm getting, and can quickly whether the tank is still charged or not.

Actually, no. Diameter is the same as "wide" in this context. Woot, and you, meant circumference.

If I'm burnin' up in this summer heat will this be an effective manner by which I can cool down? I mean, I'm pretty hot to begin with...

They lose pressure over time, so no, basically it wouldn't spray. Just kind of drizzles out the chemicals at that point. You know, like once someone has sucked all the gas out of your aerosol whipped cream...

I just looked at my Kidde extinguisher in my closet and it is A, B, C--guess it's not impossible.

These will presumably be great for grilling season. Especially if your grill may or may not work/blow up, like mine.

The main issue with these seems to be that they are old, and nearing their expiration. Since most people keep fire extinguishers for years, that's a real disadvantage. At least the ones with gauges give you some idea of remaining pressure. I'd buy these only with the understanding that they are for near-term, stopgap use.

Dry chemical extinguishers can be A B C rated because they don't have any liquid in them.
