This mp3 player is by far the best for the money

Got my three Sansas in the mail yesterday! All three are working beautifully, and I could not be more pleased.

I've spent the past few hours ripping the parents' CDs (they're conveniently on a 3 week safari in Africa), and each one will be getting their own mp3 player in their stockings this Christmas. I've been trying to sell them on mp3 players for some time now - what better way than to start with an incredibly affordable one already pre-loaded with their favorite music? Too bad I have to hide them for 6+ months!

The third player is for my workout music....it's so small and easy to use....I can't wait! Additionally, I'll feel a lot better not having my iPod on the dock anymore when I'm doing water aerobics in the lake ;)

My faith in Woot is renewed after a frustrating experience getting my refurb Flip video camera returned and repaired (it works wonderfully now). You take your chances, but after the patience exuded on my last Woot purchase, I guess good karma has finally come my way.

I'm surprised to see so many are already enjoying their Clips. I'm still waiting here in TN and will probably email service@woot.com tomorrow to find out what's the problem.

Same thing happened to me and my mom - I ordered 2 and only received 1. My mom ordered 1 and only received the air bubble packing stuff. I hope WOOT will fix this situation because I truly love good deals these days but really hate the fact that I maybe have been ripped off - espeically my mom who trusts everybody!!!

Still waiting. It arrived at the local facility on June 26. Hopefully today will be the day.

Got it on June 29. Works great. No problems.

I received my two sansas on Saturday-but neither one of them will hold a battery charge! These are gifts for my kiddos and they are super upset that they can't use them. I emailed woot to have the problem corrected and was told that because they are out of these I will only be getting a refund-you try explaining that to my kids-not freaking cool. Is there any reason that this problem (batteries not charging) would be connected to my using a Mac instead of a PC? The files transfer just fine and everything, but the batteries are not charging.

Could be your USB is noting putting out enough juice. Do you using a USB hub? If so is it self powered? do you own a blackberry cell phone? If so try plugging the Snasa clip into the cell phones charger!

The sound is great, but the volume down button was broken on mine. I assume this was just a defective unit, but did anyone else experience this problem?

Received my Clip. It won't power on when not connected to external power (USB or AC adapter). Is it just a matter of letting it charge long enough (I've had it charging via AC power for 2 hours now), or is it RMA time? Thanks in advance.

I thought one of my clips was going to be defective. It smelled like burning plastic while I was charging it up. It turns out that the axxe body spray sample had permeated the usb cord and was causing the awful smell.

Thanks a lot woot for that extra benefit!

Did you try to charge it from a non-XP machine. Mine did that too when I connected it to an XP machine, connect-> writing -> disconnect...
Then I pulled out the usb cable and plugged it into a Linux desktop. It happily charged. After that I disconnected it, went to Settings and changed the USB from "Auto Detect" to "MSC", plugged it back into my XP USB hub and no problems after that.
Alternatively if you have a wall USB device charger, you can try that too.

One another thing is suspecting the USB cable, yes they can be the culprit sometimes, it does happen.

After all this, I also upgraded my Clip's firmware to .32 from .30 which it had.

leekumkee wrote:I called sandisk about it and they took me through troubleshooting and when that didn't work said they don't cover refurb products, you have to send it back to woot.

Ordered 2. One works fine, the other will only turn on when connected to the USB, so I'm sending it back.

Not very happy about that since it was going to be a gift.

Sansa Clip player is not turning on. (updated 6/30/2009)

Question:
Why doesn't my Sansa Clip player turn on anymore?

Answer:
SOLUTION 1 - Reset the player. (Slide up for 10-15 seconds)

SOLUTION 2 - Make sure the player is fully charged.
1. Connect the player to the PC.
2. Make sure the computer detects the player.

NOTE: If needed, switch the player to MSC mode, then connect it to the PC.

3. Leave the player connected for approximately 2 hours to charge.
4. Disconnect the player from the PC.
5. Verify if you can turn on the player.
6. Reset the player if necessary.

Nice how they just updated this info as well. Hmmmm Note the date: 6/30/2009

The one that worked was at firmware version 1.01.30

and the one that doesn't turn on nor can be updated with the firmware updater software is at 1.01.29

Anybody else can confirm the same versions?

Ordered two, received one (Woot did say they would refund me for the other one). I had to charge the one I did get with the USB charger for my mobile phone. It arrived completely dead, and charging with the PC would not work. Once it got juiced up, it seems to work and charge with the PC now. Upgraded the firmware, and so far, so good.

Ok. now I am still trying to install the firmware update however, now it is telling me that I don't have enough space for the update. I need 6.0MB. This is odd because I just formatted the drive with Media Player 10.

Maybe try disconnecting from the PC and formatting the Clip under the system utilities menu.

this link to the sansa clip forum will help you manually install the latest firmware if using the sansa update is giving you problems. I never use the sansa firmware updater.

I tried this as well and was able to get the firmware on the sansa clip. However, it still only powers on when connected to a PC, laptop, or by my AC adapter. Battery indicator says I am at 100% as well. It looks like I will be calling woot! for a RMA auth to send it back. Too bad they are out thou. Like I said before I have two girls (that's why I bought two).

That was my trouble. USB wouldn't charge the thing but transferring music worked just fine. I had a wall adaptor that uses a USB cord and plugged it in and it charged right up.

Boooo. Bought two. Both do NOT hold charge. Have tried updating firmware, charging on Vista. Charging on XP. Charging on a Mac. Nothing doing.

I will return them...but you'd think that woot! would at least plug them in to check the refurbs before shipping them?! Guess not.

Hello all.
I have read all your complaints and have had the same issues (not charging & computer not recognizing the player) I did some research and found the solution to all my problems... Update Windows Media Player to version 11. My computer now sees the player, charges it, works like it should, w00t!!
I have Windows XP and it didn't work with WMP v9.0, once WMP v11 was installed I restarted plugged in the player, XP searched alil, installed it and tada!

Hope this helps everyone.

To date: 14 woots, 23 items wooted!
Im here just to fart around... Maybe I should go back to work... =x

I bought 2 (black). Both upgraded to the latest firmware and have charged to 100%. What's the best way to verify that they are holding a charge properly? I know I should probably listen to them until the battery runs out, but I highly doubt I will do that in a reasonable timeframe for woot. If I leave them on standby for a day and the battery is still holding at an expected percentage, is that good enough?

I love how loud they are - I couldn't hear my other mp3 player over the treadmill at the gym. This has to be at least twice as loud at 100% volume. And that's with the regular headphones - I haven't even tried with my good in-ear headphones yet.

Either use a music manager such as Winamp, Windows Media Player, MediaMonkey etc., or just drag-and-drop via Windows Explorer.

I had the same problem. My guess is that many if not all of these Clips were from a manufacturing run in which there were problems with battery lead connections (there's discussions about this in the Sansa forums). In which case the "refurbishing" didn't work so well on a lot of them.

That would be because the player was set to MTP mode, which is installed in WMP V10 and later versions. A firmware upgrade added the ability to set the player to MSC mode instead. This mode doesn't require the installation of MTP (your Clip will show up as a "removable disk" under My Computer).

I've had mine for less than a week and the display is frozen. I can't advance tracks or even turn it off! My computer can't read it anymore either.
I bought the same one last year and the same thing happened. What a piece of carp.

You'll know that they are not holding the charge. The previous, 1GB, versions I had would drain after about 20 minutes of use. My newest one is working fine.
