OEM items usually don't include the same contents as a full boxed retail version.

For instance the full retail version of this may include extra adapters for the ear or multiple other accessories.

To the best of my knowledge this sale is only including the bluetooth headset and charger. Basically the bare essential items you need.

Same thing with pretty much everything you buy labeled OEM. Its new, but not with extras.

A good example of this would be with computer processors. If you buy a retail version of a processor you usually get the heatsink fan combo with the full box and manual and everything.

When you buy a OEM Processor, you get a bare processor in minimal packaging.

Once again both examples are a new item, but you need to determine if the extra accessories are going to be needed for your case.

This deal actually includes all the accessories included in the retail version -- extra ear loops and buds, etc. Read through the main page. Although there are exceptions (such as computer processors), OEM usually just refers to the way the product is packaged, not what it comes with.

From the main page:

In the box:
* Jawbone 2 Bluetooth Headset
* A/C POwer Adapter
* 41” A/C Power Cord
* Small Earbud Adapter
* Large Earbud Adapter
* Large Leather Earloop
* Medium Earloop
* Large Earloop
* User’s Guide

Have you been eating that sandwich again?

As for the differences...

First and foremost, the Jawbone II has a much better physical design. It is far more comfortable, easier to take on and off, fits better, and stays in the ear better. Also, the earpiece stays attached better, on the original Jawbone I it would constantly twist off in my pocket.

The one thing that is worse is for some reason the Jawbone II does NOT work with Microsoft Voice Command (for Windows Mobile), while the original Jawbone did. Very annoying, since it was very nice to make calls by voice.

If you don't rely heavily on voice command, this is a very very good headset.

I have a HTC Touch Diamond with WM6 and use it with voice command just fine. You have to hold the button towards the back of the Jawbone 2 for two seconds to activate.

How's the battery life on this compared to the Jawbone 1? I feel like my battery lasts maybe an hour on the J1.

As I said on the other woot, this thing was very wacky with the battery life. Sometimes I would fully charge it and then get a couple hours of talk time before it died, then other times I would leave it idle for a week after a full charge and it would be dead. Battery life SHOULD be two weeks with a full charge idle and a couple hours with a full charge of talk. Sometimes i only got an hour of talk time after a full charge, sometimes four. Hell, some times it would idle for a month and still work.

i don't get it. why do we need to be wireless from our waist to our head. that's a fixed distance. a 2 dollar plug in mic/ear bud does the same thing. without having to charge yet another thing, or risk losing it at, what? 50 bucks.

Why do we need to be wireless??? As a female.. I rarely attach a phone to a belt, cause I wear skirts and dresses. I use my BT in my house .. can set the phone down and walk around. If this had better voice activation I would snag it.. because when I am in my car with the top down no one can hear me. I can never find my phone in the bottom of the purse while driving and need voice activation.

I've owned on and I absolutely loved the sound quality and the Assassin Noise Canceling Technology!

BUT I didn't get the fit that I wanted from it, so it didn't work for me.

I bought it when it was brand new and paid over $100 and this Woot! price is great.

Buy it, but beware, it may not fit everyone.

A pretty chocolatey question but I've never used a headset. I have to sort through a lot of phone messages everyday. Can I assume that I can use this as a headphone to hear messages and not be concerned about bothering others as I try to use the cell speaker because I don't want to hold a phone to my ear for a half hour. Make sense? Thanks -

The retail version has 4 ear loops (2 regular, 2 leather), 3 earbuds(s,m,l), adapter, headset...all the OEM or Bulk packaged versions i found were lacking in some of the buds and loops...BUT!!!! that doesn't make a frick of difference, because you SHOULD DEFINITELY get the new fit earbuds. It does some DSP to filter out wind (up to 10MPH they claim). The most vital upgrade is simple the fact that if the little white nub doesn't touch your cheek/jaw, the person you are talking to will still be able to hear you...given that you aren't someplace where the noise assasin is cutting out like 20dB of noise that your voice will suddenly get lost in...
I bought my fiance one, and for the 1st two weeks i was constantly uttering "I can't hear you, fix your headset." Then I got one, and ordered the new fit buds (when they were still "free"), gave her the small, now I rarely ever have to deal with voice cut-out. On the bright side, Jawbone for some reason set me an extra pack of new fit buds a couple weeks later...even got e-mails that my order had shipped etc...hooray for me ^_^

I have owned one of these for nearly 6 months (paid a cool 100 bucks) and it is hands down the best headset out there. I've owned many different ones and EVERYONE comments on the improved noise reduction since I pretty much have always used bluetooths exclusively to talk on my cell phone.

The ear clip embrangles so get some jabra ear gels and you will be golden. The added benefit of the ear gels is that you can actually manuever the jawbone so that it contacts your jaw better.

Only complain is that the battery life is absolutely AWFUL, at least for my usage. 4 hours of life embrangles, period.

I've had 2 of these and they both sucked.
Everyone complains how broken my transmit is, even when I constantly ensure it is in contact with my cheek. It comes with 3 sizes of rubber ear piece. The best fitting still pops out of my ear, leaving the whole thing swinging in the breeze or diving for the floor. I guess if your ear opening is perfectly round, it may fit you better. Only 2 buttons do everything so you have to memorize the secret tap/hold codes for all features. I was greatly underwhelmed by this piece of craptastic technology. Often can't dial or hang up if the phone is on anything but the main screen, or locks during a call. So much for hands-free, but I think those are mostly LG Dare problems. A bit fragile.

BUTTT:
Good battery life & looks cool.

pyrosaga,

This "open box" deal contains only 1 earloop and 1 ear cushion. If those don't fit you, then you'd have to purchase the ones that do.

Others may have said this, but I'll add my 2 cents. My wife and I both have Jawbone 1s, and love them. It was time to replace them, and we each got this one. Hated them!

We tried them for a week, and couldn't get comfortable with them. They don't fit as well as the old ones, and the sound quality is not nearly as good. On the old ones, you can be talking in a moving car with the radio on and the other person doesn't know. With this one, you'll be at home in a quiet room and the other person will think you're in the car.

Ours were returned for a refund, and we're struggling with the old ones until we can find "new" old Jawbones.

A lot of phones out currently don't have a jack to plug in your 2 dollar mic/ear bud into. Also, the bluetooth standard allows for more interactions from the headset; things such as voice dialing and various other call functions which are not standard features for most wired sets.

Lately? try for the last 20 years. And usually it only comes with the necessary hardware and no extras. hard drives come as just the drive. the jawbone will likely come as just the headset and charger. no manual. either white-box or bagged. Also warranties are normally shorter (30-90 days vs 1-2 years).

If you're using an early version of the Motorola Razr, the button on the side of the Jawbone that is supposed to answer the call immediately terminates the call when you press it. Jawbone had no solution.

I did not actually break a clip but I tried bending it to fit. My ears are large and none of the ear pieces fit. I finally gave it to my son who inherited a more moderate set of ear-genes. (I now use the motorola S9 head set and love it.)

I also did not like the controls. And, as pointed out before, keeping it snug to your jawbone can be a problem - due in part to my the-better-to-hear-you-my-dear ears. When positioned correctly I really liked the reception and speaking ease. As to battery life, I don't talk that much and never ran out.

I got this for my wife last year. I WILL NOT get another one! It feels a bit heavy for the little ear loops it comes with, and constantly feels like it wants to fall out. It comes with three ear loops and they all broke within the first 60 days. But it's OK, you can buy more from their web site. It's only $10 for three more, what a deal (sarcasm).

Pass on this one folks.

I've got one of these. It's really nice. It comes with a charger that can be plugged into an outlet or a USB port.

A car charger is extra.

Overall, as far as bluetooth goes, JAWBONE is the best, all others are fighting for second place.

The noise reduction will NOT work correctly in this case. The little rubber noise reduction piece MUST BE in contact with your check for it to work properly.

funkemaster wrote:I sell these at the cell store I work at. We have them and the plantronics 925 for higher end blue tooths. We all went with the plantronics for our own bt. The jawbone has a better noice concelling. But the little sensor has to rest against your cheeck. Hence "jaw" bone. If it s not the mic. doesn't always work right. The plantronics has a lot better sound quality/reception due to it's having a longer antenna. It doesn't have quite as good of noise cancelling though but I still think it's better. I also don't like the ear wrap kind. They make the back of my ear irritated after about 15 min. The new "prime" that they came out with has nice soft ear pieces you can use to resolve that. Overall I'd say get a new prime although it's more money or get the plantronics instead. The jawbone 2 just hasent really been to impressive.

Caution: Phone store employee! Knows enough to be dangerous.

Sound quality and reception won't be affected by "having a longer antenna" which is not visible in either product anyway. The ear bail ("ear hook") is not the antenna.

This is what a bluetooth antenna looks like (picture shows with and without).

The Plantronics sounds better because the early audio chain was optimized for North American speakers.

This is the WORST headset I've ever used. Don't believe the hype. That nonsense about it picking up your voice through your bones and everything else is just B.S. I've had it for six months, and every single time I try to use it, people on the other end of the phone just hang up on me. It is so frustrating and useless, I recommend you don't purchase this thing unless you like wasting money.

srees

quality posts: 8 Private Messages srees

Not a bad headset, however it is cheaper now because jawbone has released the next model, the prime. The new one has secondary voice detection (in case it comes off your cheek) and also a wind filter. So I'm holding out for the new one.

How can something be better than nothing if nothing is perfect?

striegel

quality posts: 0 Private Messages striegel

This is the model I have now and the comments about poor fit with the original ear buds are all correct. It absolutely could not stay in place until I had a custom earpiece made. (See http://www.averysound.com/as.jawboneII.html)

There are plenty of drawbacks to this for the price.

The charger attaches with magnets instead of clipping into place, so it can be dislodged easily before it finishes. Fortunately, it recharges really quickly.

The top cover that hides the switches is fragile and mine has cracked in several places, preventing the button at the back that is used for volume from working.

Sound quality to the people you call is pretty good but sound in your own ear is poor. Of the 5 or 6 Bluetooth headset models I have owned, this one is probably worst or second from the bottom. The best, in my opinion, were the Jabra BT200 and BT250.

I will not be buying another of these.

yes, and i bought my 2nd one from there (for my wife). this is an excellent price for the conversation quality. i've had many headsets costing this much, but nothing has come close to cancelling noise. This also does very well with wind noise. not perfect, but better than what you'll find out there. i find it works quite well.

It's true that these Jawbones don't work for everyone. If it can't rest against your cheek you can't use the noise cancellation.
Don't get one if you have a beard for example.

I bought a Jawbone back when Best Buy was selling them for around $300! After trying to use it, I felt it was overpriced by $275! I must not have the right kind of head for it. The 'military grade' noise cancellation must have been intended to hide military secrets, because it canceled more of my conversation than noise. Trying the various loops and buds didn't help. The large buds hurt my ear. With the small buds, it fell off my head. The medium size hurt my ear... before it fell off my head. My girlfriend could never hear me well with this thing, even before it jumped off my head. Granted, she never was a good listener, but this thing made things worse. After trying several others, ones from Plantronics were clearly better (pun intended). Even the cheap ones had better fidelity. My baby said they made me sound like I was in the room with her, and that's a good thing! Eventually, I settled on the Motorola S9, It doesn't sound as good as Plantronics, but I gotta hear my mp3s in stereo! The best thing I can say about the Jawbone is that the retail packaging was cool. I just wish the headset was as well done.
