It's a great tv! Only negative is that it's 60hz and not 120. That shouldn't deter you though, cause, unless you've bought one in the last year or two, any that you may have are probably 60 Hz too.

I'd buy one if I didn't already have the same TV with the AmbiLight upgrade.

The TV is great. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this if it wasn't refurb'd. As a refurb, it's a cautious recommendation.

I own this exact model (bought new at full discounted price) and it is a fantastic piece of equipment. Plenty of hdmi inputs, the USB and other connections just kick ass.

The remote embrangles but you should already have a multifunction that will do it.

Seriously, if you need a tv and 42" will work for ya - this is an amazing unit. If I had not gotten mine already I would buy this (on credit card if necessary) knowing what I know of its performance.

cnet has this unit going for $820 new with pretty good reviews. $605 after shipping for a refurb sounds like a tempting deal.

i have a philips lcd and it's great. no problems in 2 and a half years. i wouldn't get this one simply bc it's a refurb. they are getting way too affordable to get less than brand new.

These TV's are great, with the three I purchased today I now have bought 5. I purchase all of them on WOOT and all of them were refurb. I have had ZERO problems with them. One of the TV's is used everyday in our training room, well 5 days a week, and again zero problems.

How come so many people can't figure out whether this is an LCD or a Plasma TV? Are they joke posts or are some of you really that dense?

i just bought this tv from target for $850 . it looks grand though on my bluray sometimes i see dead pixels

i haven't gotten the HD channels .. but i love the tv

Dead pixels dont come and go. You would see them all the time, not just on Blu-Ray

Not a bad idea, but how about a lottery instead? The first come first served is not really fair as it is currently implemented. It doesn't account for woot server issues or regional internet speed differences.

I paid about ~$1,300'ish + sales-tax for a Sony Bravia V-series 40" LCD w/ 1080p/60Hz approx' 2 1/2 years ago @ a brick-&-mortar shop (price-matched from an online vendor).

Seeing that this is slightly larger & w/ more HDMI/USB inputs, at half-the-price. Ughz. . .

Sales-tax is a deal killer for me on big-ticket woots, since I'm in Tejas & have to pay it for my woots.

Not to mention refurb's on high-end consumer electronics (big-screen HDTVs, computers, etc') can be a major PITA...

We have this model in our living room. I'd definitely recommend it for this price. If we needed another tv I'd jump on this.

Anyone bought a refurb from Woot before? Was it OK?

I bought this TV when it was still selling for almost $1000 and I am very happy with it, it is a LCD if I remember right it has 4 HDMI, the easy setup program works decent, the on board sound is OK, the side viewing range is good,also the none HDTV programing looks good alot of TVs I have seen watching none HDTV programs on a HDTV set looks bad but not on this set.

Why buy this refurbished mediocre TV when brand new better Panasonic TVs can be had for just slightly more?!!!

When it comes to plasma TVs, Panasonic and Pioneer rule that world (by the number of awards and accolades they've won)! Philips TVs are mediocre at best. Sony rules the LCD world.

Great TV with a lot of ports but what is "SERV.U" and how to use SPDIF output effectively? Does SPDIF really makes any difference comparing to Analog red and white wire?

I purchased this TV about 3 months back from target for 850 $. So far I am very pleased, expect dark scenes tend to come in with a few odd purple squares, but this may just be netflix.

SPDIF is a digital audio connection founded by Sony and Philips. It will give you digital surround as opposed to analog stereo with red/white. As far as SERV.U goes... i have no idea, but i think it has something to do with internet?

Awful gaming lag on these things, even when input is at native resolution. We're talking nearly 100ms even with all picture enhancement disabled. Absolutely terrible if you plan on hooking up a console to it.

Make sure your BluRay player is set to output 1080p resolution. I assume you have an HDMI cable hooking those up?

Or worse yet, you could get stuck trying to explain something really basic to their customer service department, like the fact that they shipped your repaired DVD player to the wrong address. After two months of daily phone calls and/or emails, all responded to by people who lacked the requisite communication skills to understand something really basic like "that's not where I live", I finally gave up and bought another DVD player. I already had the Philips surround sound speakers, so I bought another Philips. And it broke, just like the first one.

That experience is precisely why I won't be buying this television.

I've never had anything from woot break on me. My first woot was a 20 inch lcd hdtv, back in 2007. Electronics are a apcray shoot no matter where you buy though. Remember, refurbished means something was wrong with the model and the company has done something to correct it, whreas new means no one has looked at it because its new. In practice, go for the best price, make sure its under some sort of warranty, and abuse the hell out of it in the first three months. If it lasts that long, it should be ok. If the warranty isnt at least 3 months, you probably wont get value from it.


The only risk you might have with woot is that you will have to pay return shipping, and it wont be $5. I assure you, its a small risk.


If something comes DOA, woot will (usually) take care of it, unless the manufacturer has it under warranty. Barring that, follow the standard lawsuit method - Manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer (which would be woot).
