TechnoBabbler wrote:1- Yes, it was begging. Notice how more than one person has pointed out how they felt about the post? Take it as a sign.
No, it was not begging. More than one person has indicated having no problem with the post.
TechnoBabbler wrote:2- I never suggested that someone sell them on ebay or CL instead of giving them to you.
And I never said you did. We were discussing profit and I indicated that it was that kind of profit put forth by others in this conversation.
TechnoBabbler wrote:3- You offered no other alternative other than your concern for the planet with your desire to get them from other people.
That is absolutely wrong. I said "fix them, use them for parts, or recycle them properly" in my first response after the initial post.
TechnoBabbler wrote:4- Telling someone they need a sense of humor implies that something was supposed to be funny, humor involves jokes of some sort, if you mean lighten up, then say lighten up, it's different from needing a sense of humor.
Again, if that is your interpretation of the idiom then that part of the debate is over. Having a sense of humor is a broad descriptor. A joke is a specific thing.
TechnoBabbler wrote:5- You didn't say you were looking for 1 sansa, you stated that you were looking for multiple, as in as many as you can get people to send you. and no, a dozen cookie in the spring after shoveling out an elderly neighbor 10-15 times over the winter isn't anywhere the same.
I said "a surplus." That could be one or 100. A dozen delicious home-baked cookies is worth more than a broken $7 Sansa, no?
TechnoBabbler wrote:6- yes, I parsed out that one phrase as a point from the entire post, but it was not the focus of my post. As with other people, take some advice, multiple people pointed out and took issue with your post, take it as a learning experience for the future and stop being so defensive about it.
When someone calls me a beggar and that I exemplify "the worst in people", I'm going to defend myself. It's a forum and that is my right to respond. I directly asked one of the original responders for clarification but got none.
TechnoBabbler wrote:7- You gave no one any option but to assume that about you with what you said in your original post, again, take the advice people gave you and learn to phrase things a little better when you post and there won't be a problem for you to get all bent out of shape about when people give you flack for it.
First, two posters felt annoyed enough to post about it using the phrases "begging" and "the worst in people." I asked for explanations and got none. If you assumed from my post that I was a disingenuous profiteer, that is entirely on you. Certainly much of our society is motivated by greed, but it is too bad you assume the worst.
TechnoBabbler wrote:8- I don't need to tell you what is wrong with my Sansa because my sansa isn't broken, it just needs a new battery.
That's your response to my successful refutation of the accusation that I don't actually want to help people?
TechnoBabbler wrote:It's taken what? 4? 5 posts for your actual reasons for wanting the Sansas to come out? You do realize that if you had followed the advice of other people, as well as me, and thought a little bit more about what you post in a message, then no one would have said a single word in criticism.
Your "advice" came days later, I'm afraid. The (usual) spirit of wooters wouldn't prompt me to consider editing an efficient, innocuous post. In fact, in addition to a couple of people who posted in the positive, I also got responses in the form of offers of Sansas. If I could have imagined that a few people would get so irrationally upset over the phrase "take them off of your hands," then sure, I could have gone into more detail about the various ways I can make use of unused Sansas. When I give away unused monitors, hard drives, musical instruments, etc., I don't care what the recipient is going to do with them aside from assuring me they will be properly disposed of or returned to me if ultimately they are unusable.
Perhaps it is you, who assumed I was a disingenuous profiteer, that needs to lighten up. Instead you prolong this debate with little support.
