Big Lots has been closing out Sony Distribution's standard def DVDs for 3.00 a pop. Already picked up some of these titles thru that deal. Standard Def DVDs are on the way out. Still, not a bad deal if you need an instant DVD collection.

I can get almost all these movies at our local library for free, without having to trash up the house with another collection or being embarrassed by someone discovering I own a Michael Moore film.

Maybe ... but it doesn't appear to be a big seller there.

My girlfriend and I bought 6 sets as Christmas/bday gifts because many of our friends are movie buffs and this is a terrific deal. Plus, none of them are ignorant enough to reject an entire collection because of a few movies. We're keeping one set.

Better them finding out you own one of my films rather than discovering you have an Al Gore body pillow! Your right wing buddies might tar and feather you for that one!

ARRRRRGH... If I wouldn't have spent 20 minutes on the can this morning, I wouldn't have missed this! I saw it when I woke up on my blackberry and said "Hmm... I'll pick one of those sets up when I finish getting ready", so when I pull the laptop up is says the dreadded "SOLD OUT!".

When I was doing a bit of eBay reselling, I bought 11 of these from Amazon.com. This was in January 2008.

They normally sold on Amazon for $700-800, and were selling them in the gold box for $350. So I wound up $4000 deep on these things. Anyway, I couldn't sell them for a profit. Eventually I wound up breaking up the box sets and re-packaging the DVDs. This pisses a lot of people off who didn't read the description that clearly stated I wasn't giving them a box/case. BTW, it wasn't in fine print. It was plain as day.

So those pissed people complained to PayPal and eBay saying that I was selling pirated movies, that the discs were scratched, or any other chocolate milk they could use to file a complaint. Mind you, I was offering refunds if they sent back.

It was a nightmare. Eventually eBay & Paypal suspended my accounts and demanded proof of purchase and other things. I gave them everything they asked within days, and they took months to resolve. People started leaving negative feedback, etc. I had to start over with a new ID. I was stuck with tens of thousands in inventory. I sold it most of it at a loss. I still have some of it.

I hate this DVD set.

I am quite happy it is sold out. That means that no more people will buy the Michael Moore schlocumentary from Woot today. Lots of excellent movies, but only half of them were on my favorite list. I already have several of those. 12 Angry Men and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are up there.

Well, that goes to show you the insignificant influence of the Michael Moore haters who just had to announce that they wouldn't buy the collection. Talk about drama queens. Why not just ignore the woot? Why assume that others care whether you buy or not?

For what it's worth, most of those claims were made by people with few to no Woots. Do we really believe that they would have bought the collection if it didn't include Moore? Yeah right. The fact that this Woot ended so early -- in just 7 hrs -- shows how little influence their protests had.

Also note how their posts consisted of no more than a sentence claiming that they didn't buy because of Moore. There was no thought as to why the documentary HAD to be included for artistic, intellectual and cultural reasons (it won the Oscar for Best Documentary as well as 28 other awards worldwide). Nor did they realize how illogical the claim that they were lining Moore's pocket was.

You can blame my girlfriend and me for taking up 6 of them. Sorry.

#2 If you get 30 DVDs in the set, something tells me you won't be throwing away more than $2 if you took the DVD you don't like and put it through a shredder. If you do the math, it's $1.66 per DVD.

They are right wing reactionaries. They pretend they love this country until free speech comes up then when someone tries to point out how we can improve our country they label them 'commies' and unpatriotic. It's sad really.

Holy smokes that sold out fast.

I got home from work about 45 minutes ago, checked Woot and saw the killer movie pack deal, and debated it for a few minutes and by the time I decided it was worth getting a couple it's sold out...

Oh, and I can't believe how many people would not buy this set based solely on the inclusion of one film they don't agree with. It's quite absurd, really.

lol, I love how people hate michael moore when all he does is, obviously, is disagree with you and thats done to make a point about how hypocritical and closed minded people are.

and hes right.

This is america people, get over it.

try actually watching the movie instead of spitting a bunch of old republican propaganda, cause you've heard of other people who've heard about it and disagreed. If youve seen it, good, then you don't have to watch it again, don't complain. If you get all butthurt about a movie, wait till something that matters comes along.

Everyone has an opinion and the freedom to express it, the difference is you don't like his, deal with it, if you wanna keep people down, go back to germany in the 40's.

They need not go back that far. Simply travel back to the US circa 1950's. McCarthyism. Where people's artistic expressions were suppressed because of their politics. It was not enough to simply ignore those with whom you have a disagreement. They had to be suppressed so that others can't hear them and make up their own minds. Hiring a Communist actor/writer would ruin an entire film. Such were the comments here. Including Moore apparently sullied the entire collection. Rather than just ignoring a movie they didn't like, they saw fit to influence the contents of an entire collection so that others can't enjoy it if they wanted to. They wanted the movie removed. Yep, MCarthyism is alive and well in 2009.

again, hating a movie that you most likely havent seen and trying to create a pathetic so called "protest" on woot to try to not get other people to buy something is ridiculous because you don't like ONE of the movies creators. Its still a good deal, don't try to rally your zombies to spread your out-dated views to boycott a movie like its 2002 again.

GET OVER IT.

Get back on the fox news hotline to jim cramer so he can lose you some more money and try to blame it on our "terrorist" president ruining our economy. hoho.

Have a nice day hypocrite.

Not only is it a great deal, but today's Woot is also an invaluable object lesson for you, America. It illustrates in full and living color how hardwired some folks are to remain frozen in their tracks -- at even the most trivial, gut-reaction level -- when faced with any prospect entailing simple compromise and the opportunity to gain much with ferociously little sacrifice. It's this uniquely pathetic self-spiting apathy that's bringing this country to its knees.

Put it this way:

The Limbaugh Ditto-Heads won't buy a collection that includes "Bowling for Columbine".

The godless tree-hugging crowd won't buy a collection that includes "The Greatest Story Ever Told".

Thanks to their intolerance - I was able to snap this deal up an hour before this collection sold out.

For once, I'm happy that there's so much intolerance in the world...

Its a good movie, it makes lots of good points, although you make not like his tactics, he likes to make people look stupid to make his points.
by no means is it the best in the collection, but its worth a view.

regardless, awesome deal if you're a movie collector, or don't have the majority of the collection.
