I never really "got" tablets - they're marginally good at being a laptop and marginally good at being an artist tool - but don't truly excel at either....

You've been put on posting probation for this post

If it wasn't an HP, I would buy it. I have had nothing but trouble with HP computers.

At $700, this tablet is one hard pill to swallow.

Just so you guys know, these are really expensive.

It's a good price for such a nice product. It really helps when you need to get more hands on with photoshop or other media products.

I'd buy one if I had the money.

if the screen were e-ink (kindle etc) like it looks like in the pic (I don't think it is) I would totally jump on this

Yes, but does it run GNU+Linux?

used to have one, it broke within a month. the joint where the screen swivels somehow cut the cords going to the screen, so i had a black screen but the computer still worked. BUT i looved it up until then. its just one more thing to break

Having owned one, I will say this: when you first get it, you have all of these ingenious ways you will utilize the tablet... and then after using it for a week, the cool factor kinda wears off, and it proves to be not that useful.

there's nothing douchier than a signature that lists all the junk you've bought. NOBODY CARES.

This is actually an HP 2710p, which is still one of the better tablets out there.

However, you can get the newer model, the 2730p, for around the same price with a full warranty from HP (albeit refurbished).

And don't knock the whole tablet thing until you've tried it. A tablet PC with OneNote is one hell of a replacement for paper notebooks.

Consumer vs. business models. NOT comparable.
If that's what you want, go ahead though.

You can do the same thing with an 8" USB Wacom Tablet and a desktop or laptop. Just because it is a good price doesn't justify a slow HP tablet PC. You will get much better graphical performance through something with a dedicated video card and a faster processor/RAM.

Oh man, as a medical student I'd love to have this.

But a notebook and zebra pen would likely still work.

I still have that whole "poor medical student" thing going on.

Wait.. Is this a TABLET or a convertible notebook with a swivel screen? Cuz if its a tablet, I might force myself to afford it. If its a 'convertible' that you guys can shove it.

Does anybody know if the screen on this will respond to both the stylus and fingers? I know some of these tablets only work with the stylus

Since this is "new" and is being purchased after June 26th, with a Vista license (downgraded to XP) is there any chance it might qualify for the free Windows 7 upgrade?

prateeko

So if I were to install the included Vista Business, would there be any way to revert back to XP Tablet or are all the features of XP Tablet built into future editions of Windows (including the copy of Vista Business provided with this tablet)?

EXACTLY. My friend had me buy one for him when he was in Iraq and I played with it for maybe 15 minutes before I got bored. Anyone who is thinking this would be a great way to do designs/photoshop etc is better off just buying a usb drawing tablet like Wacom.

This is the old model - the 2710p. I have a 2730p - the new model - I got a good deal but only paid $100 more than this Woot price for the 2710.

Also, no matter what you think of Vista vs. XP; on a tablet Vista works much better.

The 2710 is a decent tablet. HP makes a really nice docking station and slice battery. It's really quite useful. I prefer browsing the web with a tablet because I am very nearsighted and can take off my glasses and hold it close to my eyes. Microsoft One Note is very useful for taking notes in meetings without having a laptop sticking up, and a lot of casual games are fun on a tablet.

"Integrated camera: Integrated 2 MP camera (1600×1200 max resolution) on select models."

Is the tablet being sold one of the 'select models' as stated in the specs section?

Why bother with this cr*p when you can get an HP tx2z *multitouch* 12.1" tablet PC with Vista Home Premium at any Best Buy for like $100 more? Probably less online with coupons?

And be ready for Windows 7's native multitouch support.

Works with the pen as well of course.

No reason to buy this antique business class version of the tablet PC.
