$1200 for a refurb seems rather steep...

Who the hell would spend $1200 to buy a refurbished TV?

For what it's worth I have the smaller version of this and to me it is pretty nice.

I'm going to have to agree. You can get 50" Panasonic 1080p plasmas for around $899 brand new. This is an absurd price. They shouldn't even be able to sell one but someone will still buy it for some reason.

My brother has the same TV and it's pretty damn good, especially at this price. Tempted to jump on the opportunity, although I'm a little skeptical about the possible risks of buying a refurbished tv.

I'd rather live in a cardboard box than buy a brand new Philips. I'd rather live in a soggy cardboard box than buy a refurb Philips.

This is great. A gigantic screen that you can hang on your wall high enough so that all who drive by your house can see what you are watching. You can see millionaires in funny costumes chase a ball around. Or amateur singers trying to win a contrived contest designed to get tv networks to gain more revenue for the commercials they sell. Or video of the latest murder in your neighborhood, described by a silly girl. Great.

A 52" HDTV is a good size for a primary TV because when you sit at a normal viewing distance, people such as news anchors will appear at almost life size. And the 120Hz feature will give you much smoother video action, useful for watching sports.

we bought a sanyo 47" from Wally's for just under 400 on a sale and I broke it within a month. thank god for the 90 day return policy. Now my man wants a new t.v. cause we went back to the old tube t.v. and something like this would be nice, but 1200 is steep. Why he wont just break down and bring his 106" from his house is beyond me, besides the fact my wall probably cant handle it.

Lip Sync issue would be audio settings... virtual surround, DSP... blah blah... will cause it.

I have Lip Sync issues... But I attribute it more to the BAC % than the TV.

why do ppl hate on plasma, i have a 40" lcd, and 2 of my friends each have 42" plasmas n i'm jealous. everyone says they're worse for games (we play ps3 and 360 all the time and they look identical) and movies are waaaaay better on plasma due to the mucccccch better blacks....

I've been looking for a new TV for the last month, but unfortunately this price isn't great. For $1200 you can get a new Samsung 50" 1080p plasma. For $1100 you can get a new Sony Bravia 46" 1080p LCD. I'm pretty sure these brands are better, but I don't know much about Philips. Anyways, I wanted to give potential buyers a price perspective.

I bought a smaller refurb here last year and it is a fantastic set. Our son has HD on a different TV brand. We don't have HD but our Philips picture is better than his! If I had room for it I'd buy this for a second set. The sound quality is great too.

American Express will double your warranty. The name of the technician who refurbished the unit comes with the set so if you should have a problem you know who to yell at.

Philips is teh suck. I've owned a remote control, a mini-system, and a TV from Philips and all have broken within one year. Never again with that brand.

Ask yourself the same question in 2 years when the plasma tubes in your tv bust and it costs more to repair than it does to replace.
