Is there anyway to modify this so it can fit onto the back of a Delorean? I'm really close to finishing up a 'project' of mine.

Oh, and you guys wouldn't happen to know anyone with a spare flux capacitor lying around would you? Some Libyans ran off with mine

I'll never understand you "flower people". All that time and money...

You might as well get a dog and get some fun out of the whole deal.

Wow--$250? Wouldn't a low-tech version, a polycarbonate barrel that can be rolled, stored in the backyard, be a more cost-effective alternative? Although, I guess this could be a good alternative for apartment dwellers with lots of plants ...

$255 would probably buy more compost from Home Depot then I'd ever use in a life time. How much electricity does this thing use? Am I going to pay $255 and then another $2 per gallon of compost I make?

pigsnfish wrote:Funny...I just looked at the map of where wooters are from who are buying this and they're all from California so far. I just read something where it said that CA is going to MANDATE composting. Something like this composter might be just the thing for people resigned to having to live there.

Lots of us already do. It's not exactly rocket science:

1. Dig a hole
2. Put kitchen and yard scaffolding in it
3. Cover hole and wait 6 months

If you don't want to go outside:

1. Find a plastic box with a lid
2. Put paper strips in it
3. Add nightcrawlers
4. Add food scaffolding from kitchen
5. Wait a while

Yeah, I know I let out a few details but that's most of what I learned in compost class. This woot reminds me of my friend's trash compacter that turns 25 lbs of garbage into 25 lbs of garbage.

Lotsa stuff...

And yeah I did see the claim that it takes "less energy than the truck takes to haul all that garbage away". But guess what? Garbage haulers work on contract. That truck comes by my house every Wednesday whether I have garbage that day or not. And since I'm pretty sure this thing doesn't compost dirty diapers, or pizza boxes, or burned out light bulbs, or other scaffolding that the recycler won't take, then I can't exactly cancel the contract. And even if I did, my neighbors wouldn't so the truck would drive right by here anyway.

Other than if you live in a place without a yard, what's the benefit of an indoor composter as opposed the traditional setup where you have a bin (or a small setup) outside?

10W. From the video, they approximate 50 cents worth of electricity per month.

I have one of these and love it! I got one for my parents and my best friend too and they really like them.

I do what I can for the environment (recycling Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!, no plastic bags, etc.) and since I got this thing it kills me to be somewhere and throw away any food scraps. I have it primarily so I don't throw anything into a landfill. ("Isn't that the same, it'll decompose?" No, big difference between aerobic and anaerobic decomposition.)

I live in a townhouse with no yard (just balconies) so it's my best option for composting. It's weatherproof so I could put it on the balcony, but it's more convenient inside.

I keep it right in my kitchen. There's almost no odor, and usually just an earthy smell when I open it. EXCEPT once in a while, yes, it can have a smell. Especially when you're first establishing the culture (by adding some topsoil) or when you add too much wet stuff. You figure it out, and it's actually a fun little game. I threw a half pound of yellowtail into the composter a few days ago and the trashcan that has the wrapper smells way worse than the composter.

The included baking soda isn't for odor, it's to keep the compost alkaline, which is required for proper breakdown.

Tip for anyone who gets one -- Feline Pine cat litter are the perfect sawdust pellets if you can't find them at a lumberyard or anywhere else.

What a ridiculous contraption.

Woot needs to offer a catapult so that we can make good use of our organic trash by hurling it at obnoxious neighbors.

Are they serious? This almost sounds like a gag item. You don't need an appliance to make compost! What's next? A device to make water moist?

This is VERY funny.

stink? hell no - why would you think that rotton food would stink? LOL you can curl right up in this stuff and take a nap.

Indoors? Why in the world would you want to have all teh rotton stuff in your life so far away as outside? Espeacially when you can bring it right inside your house for only 250.00.

This truely is an amazing deal. How Awesome can you get.

I wonder if this is really a green "solution" worth voting for (with dollars)?

How much energy went into making this product?

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embodied_energy

What waste and pollution was created?

What will happen to it when it breaks and needs to be thrown out?

How much more energy and pollution was spent shipping it from wherever it was made to whoever bought too many then shipped them to woot.... How much more to ship it to the final customer?

I could go on.

Isn't an 'electric composter' an oxymoron? Technically, a compost pile is just a heap o rotting stuff isn't it?

I suppose this is good for folks without a backyard, but why then would they need compost?

Worm composting is the way to go in an apartment!

I think I might be in for 1. $150 off the manufacturer direct site.

By the way, if you have one & it smells, you are doing it wrong. As I recall, you need more wood.

It is a fool's errand to argue with environuts. You cannot counter a religious conviction. Loathing of landfills is right up there with human-caused global warming.

THIS is what I've been waiting for from Woot for such a long time!

With the 370 acres I just bought from another daily deal site, and the 4,000 Sq ft. home I bought from yet another daily deal site, I can actually use this! We waist so much food it's pathetic! Thank you Woot!

You folks need to think outside of the box, and imagine hooking up a 4" diameter tube of PVC to this thing.

2.7 cu ft external. Internal about 2.5 cu ft. for $250!

You can get an 11 cu ft composter for half the price.

Or use a 55 gallon barrel that costs about $8 (or even free) that will hold almost 7 cu ft. Just roll it once in a while to rotate and mix the compost.
