The wireless refers to not having wires running from the front of the room, to the back of the room. There is a receiver that needs to be plugged in that goes in the back of the room. The two wireless rear speakers are then wired into the receiver in the back of the room as opposed to the main receiver/Blu-ray player in the front.

Agreed!

I thought they were wireless speakers at first. It's funny to see so many wires in the picture.

Sorry, no sale here...

Got one for a friend about 3 months ago from a Sony Dealer (also a friend)at cost was about $650. Great system very cool speakers. One weird flaw NO AUDIO OUT. I had to go HDMI to his TV and run his wireless outdoor speakers from the TV. Other than this is a killer deal.

You would not be able to connect the speakers directly to your laptop due to their proprietary connections. You would have to connect your laptop to the receiver with either digital coaxial, fiber optic, or HDMI to get a true surround sound from your laptop.

the price is very good. BUT, i had the same exact sony speaker system without the attached blu-ray player.. and those speakers SUCK. no power whatsoever. it was even in a smaller sized living room.

I suggest that those who are interested in this for the blu ray player to save a little more money and buy a PS3 along with a home threater in a box setup. This player is BD Live compatible, but can it download software upgrades? For the money, the PS3 can't be beat.

I played with this at Sam's Club once. I thought the speakers were very impressive. Don't be fooled by their size. I am not quite an audiophile but I am a muscian and producer, so I am pretty picky about sound and they were not bad.

I have the non blue ray version of this set, and i must say for a small home theater set up, these sound great. wife picked it out because of the small speakers and i was very skeptical, but i have to say I was very impressed with the sound from these golf balls.

For anyone that owns this I have a question.

The specs say 2 HDMI inputs and also component and svideo, but it says only (SAT/Cable) next to them all.
Does this mean I could not have multiple devices connected and switch between them?
I.E.

HDMI In 1 HD DVR
HDMI In 2 XBOX
Component Wii

and switch between them?

i've heard these more than once as they are setup at a store i've visited a number of times in the past few months

those cheap portable speakers they make for mp3 players almost sound better than these tiny little speakers

sony isn't well loved for the audio side of home theater... even their full size HT speakers... there are better options for less money

Actually, you can upgrade the software via the ethernet connection or you can contact Sony for the newest firmware disc. I have this system(purchased as an open box from Best Buy). I already have a much larger system in my living room and got this for a ridiculous price so that I could also watch Blu-Rays in the bedroom from time to time. It is upgradeable to profile 2.0 with the newest firmware. The bass is adjustable(from -6 to +6) and in my huge master bedroom, the bass is able to be felt all throughout the house(2800 SQ.FT just for reference. Recent test with the Blu-Ray of "300"). I'm not sure why people want it to have an audio output though. The wireless unit actually has a headphone jack on it. I guess they assume that you're going to be closer to the rear of the room than right up close to the TV.

Everyone knows that China is a Communist Red country, not blue. If they were blue, Fox News would be all over them, claiming lead is bad for you and what-nots.........

I took an Ambien an hour ago,. Thankfully I'm way wittier on it.

But I do have a legit question; Is the HDMI out to tv pass-through only? Not worth it if it is.

Personally, I'd prefer if it came in working condition. I'm getting quite sick of every product I buy needing to be plugged into the Internet to get the latest firmware or update just so it works as advertised. I'm sick of being an unpaid beta tester.

I had the first version of this surround system (same speakers with a dvd player) this thing works fine for a small room.

if you want real surround sound at a cheap price, get a set of fluance speakers (google them) and a Harman Kardon AVR 254 (buy it refurb on ebay, look for harmanaudio)
believe me... its a whole different beast and you wont regret it

http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/review/5830/sony-blu-ray-bdv-is1000-review

interesting review on it.

"Blu-ray home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) systems are still a rarity—there are currently only a few models available from Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. What’s more, they’re pricey. Sony’s BDV-IS1000 lists for $1,000, keeping it just outside the realm of most mainstream consumers. But the biggest hurdle, as we found out, is simply that they don’t always work. Despite trying two systems, spending an hour on the line with a support specialist, and about half that time again on a conference call with a product manager, we were unable to make the system’s rear wireless speakers connect with the main amplifier. Other than that one, rather significant inconvenience, it’s a sweet system."

I'm glad to see the IMPEDANCE got some recognition on this woot. IMPEDANCE is very important.

needs more IMPEDANCE.

These are truly atrocious speakers. In Sony's infinite wisdom they've attempted to one up Bose by creating an even tinier setup, but they've failed miserably in the process. The unit I heard was physically painful before getting to a reasonable listening volume.

If the cutoff frequency of 800hz for the subwoofer is seriously the crossover point, it will just sound like everything is coming from the subwoofer. If you have any remote interest in good quality audio/video, stay far far FAAAAAAR away from this set.

No, it's not just him. Well, sort of. It isn't too expensive for Woot per se, but it is too expensive for an item that will be obsolete in 5 years or less. Everything is moving away from physical media and towards online streaming/downloading. This will go the way of the Laserdisc in a couple of years, and besides the vast majority of people do not have the right TV for getting the most out of Blu-Ray. A 32" TV (or smaller) is not enough to justify Blu-Ray over DVD.

I paid around $800 for just the speaker/receiver system back in January. I think it is a fine system and the small speakers put out great sound. Also, they are easy to hide in my family room, i.e. in a bookcase and behind curtains. For the price of this Woot offer, it's a no-brainer.

Thats the "popular" thing to say right now about blu-ray to those not adopting it. physical media going away.... Well these people not yet buying blu-ray are not doing so to wait to buy things without physically having it. A physical item has some up sides
try telling them you will have things you own on other people servers with no way of selling in the future/ no way of phyically giving as gift(christmas's filled with code vouchers doesnt sound fun).
next you'll say people dont want to re-buy everything..well they dont have too
all blu-ray players play dvd's. try putting a vhs into a dvd player. I'll spare everyone, you cant.
Blu-ray is a slow building market in a slow market. players get cheaper, disks get cheaper, hi def gets cheaper. it all just takes time. and with $100 players and $10 sale disks its on track.

Sony, you can't break the laws of physics. Small speakers are basically tweeters, so unless you watch a lot of movies with Fran Drescher, most of your sound is going to come out of the Subwoofer. The problem is that you only have one of those. That means any time a non nasally person is talking, they come from the subwoofer. 800Hz crossover frequency is not that far away from the standard test tone (think the old color bars test screen that happens after the national anthem - ok, I am dating myself). Either way, small speakers can't make good sound.

Not wanting any wires and components visible in the room, we bought this system specifically for the small speakers. We're not hard core audiophiles, but find the sound to be quite impressive (in a fairly small room). We purchased a Harmony RF remote, and have all of our audio and video completely hidden inside cabinets (we have the sub hidden in a bookshelf at the back of the room). The S-Air box is co-located with the other components and the wires run to the back of the room, so was not a factor for us. We were able to find info online for synching the rear speakers. There is a small 'button' on the back of the S-Air box (you'll need a small pin-type object in order to depress it) that is pressed during the set-up and worked flawlessly. Not sure why it isn't explained in the manual. Woot's price is about $200 less than we were able to find (6 months ago?). Very satisfied . . . so far.

It's not the size of the speaker, it's what you do with it .....

There are a certain group of audiophiles, let's call them size queens, that are less concerned with speaker length then speaker girth. Who is right, I don't know. All I know is that I have never had a complaint with my 8 inch tweeter.

Oh wise Woot owl ... How many licks DOES it take to get to the center? The world may never know.

I'm sorry, but there is no way this could sound that good. I don't need to hear it to know. Although audio companies have come a log way in emulating a "full" sound from tiny speakers, there is just too much that suffers. Due to a major lack of mid-range coming from the tiny surround speakers, the sub-woofer is set to fill a wider range of the audio spectrum, thus causing you to lose some of the rich bass tones because its doing too much work. Don't be fooled, tiny speakers just don't move enough air to fill a room with true full spectrum sound. If your looking for a starter system that will sound a few steps up from your TV speakers, ok, but do yourself a favor, take your 500 and buy some quality good sized speakers and a real receiver and enjoy sound as it's meant to be heard.
