If I didn't have a nice set of Wustof knives already, I'd buy these! Shun makes awesome knives. (I bought the Shun mandoline off Woot a few months ago, love it.)

I used to be one of those people that thought expensive knives were silly. Then I got some. They actually cut! Well worth it if you do a lot of cooking.

Can you refurbish knives?

Oh, how badly I want these. Don't have 500 to drop right now though.

As far as price, I spent 300 on a set of 4 knives from Henckels last year. If you like to cook, there is nothing more important in your kitchen than your knives. Everything else still functions well if it is cheaper, but you will absolutely cringe every time you use a lower quality knife after using something like this.

$520+ knives...for the guy who wants to slit his wrist in style.

Sssh..
Just so you know when the Boggy Old Creature comes up later you would have had to purchase this knife set in order to qualify to receive a bad of scaffolding. The Woot Gods didn't want to use the closing of the dow this time.

gerardtn wrote:what's with the extra slot on the block? is it for the expensive knife sold separately?

It is for the bread knife which you will not need since you spent $520 for a knife set and cannot afford bread anymore.

Is there some reason this item seems desireable to the northern part of the country? Is it because they have so much time to hang out in the kitchen during those long winters? This knife set better have a LOT of interesting attachments to make it worth $500+.

$525 for knives? And then I still have to cook my own dinner? For $525 I can have some hookers bring over their own knives, chop some food for me and cook it, then feed it to me. On second thought, forget the food. And the knives.

But those hookers won't last you a lifetime...of course you wouldn't want that anyways.

If I buy this and it doesn't actually have a 5 foot sword, can I return it?

That "utility knife" is pretty intriguing.

Sure, just buff out the scratches and polish 'em right up.

Again, I ask: 8 pieces included + block, but why is it a 9 slot block with 10 slots in it?

That's two extra slots. Must be for the finger and thumb you cut off with these?

Mostly because you simply can't afford to drop $500 on quality knives?

If your a cook or chef, you know these are worth their weight in gold.

last night when the woot off was just starting they had a similar knife set with 12 knives for 700 bucks. They sold out quickly. Apparently there are people out there who really really want good knives.

You're kidding, right?

4" for a chef's knife is tiny as hell.

Not to mention with those handles you'll get barely any leverage while cutting.

If you do enough cooking to warrant the purchase of a $500 knife set, at least get a decent set of knives.

Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and COLORADO.

It looks like there are about 100 of these with something like 89 to go.
