Songs have long had a place in advertisements and commercials. Lately, I've enjoyed the Swiffer WetJet "Baby Come Back" ads. We still remember the Coca Cola "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" ad, going now on 30 years ago! Windows XP launched with the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up", and where would Geico's googly-eyed stack of money be without "Somebody's Watching Me"?!

The task of the week: create an ad or modify an existing one for a product, real or imagined, past, present or future, that uses a song in the ad headline, a speech bubble, anyplace it fits. Bonus points awarded (hahaha, bonus points in Dodgeball?) for including a link to a midi or mp3 preview (for when we don't remember the song!), and/or for including a few of the lyrics.

A matress singing Air Supply's "Even the Nights Are Better"? A have-it-your-way Whopper with Journey's "Any Way You Want It"? Possibilities . . . (a good source for midi links at VanBasco's site)

Bachman Turner Overdrive's You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet introduces the return of Plymouth and the RoadRunner (hey, the economy's going to get better, right?) ~

You ain't seen nothin' yet
B-B-B-Baby, you just ain't seen nothin' yet
Here's something that you never gonna forget
B-B-B-Baby, you just ain't seen nothin' yet

(I know ... it didn't occur to me til later that I missed the boat a bit on this one. Still, it's always nice to share some FZ, and while looking around, I found some videos I hadn't seen before)

It got moved to the contest thread. Anyone else notice that the Woot (unofficially ) Dodgeball contest has rolled into its fourth block of 50?

We just keep staying a little bit longer . . .

Stay was covered by the Chantels, Franki Valli and others, but my favorite was when Jackson Browne based his band road song on it with the long story/song, Stay.

Oh, won't you stay just a little bit longer,
Please let me (chop); please say that you will
Say you will

In the interest of BUMPing this up for one more day of entries , I first thought of this theme early this summer when I saw this ad from State Farm (the "like a good neighbor SF is there" folks) featuring Michael Jackson singing the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" over images of people helping people. I think it is one of the best ever, and having come just months before he died turned out to be a tribute to his career and talent.

And btw one day left for entries!

I think the point of this contest was to create something like the California Raisins, where you automatically associate the product with the song when it plays on the radio. I didn't think anybody had really achieved that until you submitted this one. I can't look at a bowl of oatmeal without humming. Great job!

I wonder if Arlo Guthrie ever listened to Lonnie Donegan, they have a similar story telling style.
