if its the 64 bit you need to manually update the drivers for the mic with 64 bit versions.

Because of power requirements, size and weight, netbooks do without CD/DVD drives, which is why everyone who uses one carries a large USB flash drive or SD card.

The trick is to sign up for an online service like Google Docs, which lets you store work in progress, then save a copy to a flash drive.

If you really need an external drive, you can get a slimline one for about $50 (or less) which draws power from the netbook USB ports or from an AC -> USB charger that puts out at least 25 watts.

One example I like is at NewEgg, Rosewill 8X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-R 24X CD-RW 24X CD-ROM 2MB Cache USB 2.0 External Slim 8X DVD Burner Model ROD-EX001 for about $54 less a 15% discount until 31 Oct. Many other are less, but I like the one I have.

I also recommend you either get a 4GB or larger SD card to pop in the built in reader, that's big enough to hold a copy of most DVDs or 6-7 CDs, see VRiDATA Lightning Series 8GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model RDSDHC8G-LIG6 for about $15.

Or a USB Flash Drive like
SUPER TALENT 8GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Model STU8GSMS for about $15.

auctionsaver wrote:I really considered getting one of these. New at Costco they are $299 with a much longer warranty... and new.

I ended up getting an MSI Wind for my son for $280 shipped. I am really glad I did. I is much nicer than my friends Aspire One. It is also much easier to upgrade the memory to 2GBs. You can't beat MSIs quality either.

Still, The aspire one is a really good product as well.

As far as gaming, you can run guild wars and age of empires on it. almost can run UT2004. Nothing really any newer... or atleast not playable.

Of course, these are not designed to be the primary computer... a secondary. My son uses this for school and his desktop for gaming, but also uses his netbook as a guide for maps and such while he is playing Guildwars.

I got this exact model brand new 2 weeks ago for 230 shipped no tax. Better than a refurb.

thomasr wrote:My understanding is MS sells a limited license to the manufacturers of netbooks resulting in a "brain damaged" version of XP and Win7 so that they cannot access more than 1.5 gigs of RAM. This is why they all come with 1 gig of RAM. You can buy a full version pf the OS and run as much ram as you want, but it costs. Of make it a Linux box for free...

Well, all I can say is that I replaced the 1 gig stick with a 2 gig stick and it is using all of the memory. Well worth the $35 I spent on the memory.

Hey all. What is the average shipping time to WA for this? Is it coming from TX or some other warehouse? I ordered it on the 18th and I haven't seen it yet. I have not received an email confirmation yet either. This is the first larger item I have bought off woot and I and starting to get a little nervous that it might not have shipped. I have already been billed for it however. Thank you.

Your order will typically ship within five business days after the sale, at which point you should receive tracking information by email. Order status should also update under "My account."

Did you know shirt.woot ships internationally? Get you some!

While Gatzby has answered the question, it's still noting more than a regurgitation of the vague Woot response.

In my experience you have no idea when they really ship this stuff out and Woot isn't going to help you out on this. For almost every Woot order I've had I'll get the item before they send out the shipping email. Woot is really behind on sending out those shipping emails. Your best bet is to go to Fedex and use your order number as a reference number. My order just showed up in Fedex and it looks like the netbooks were picked up by Fedex yesterday, 9/29.

What is the exact model that this is? (d250-????) There are almost 60 different versions, where as today's woot specifically states that it's a AO751h-1948.

We will help you, be as descriptive as possible and please provide your order number.

If you get your email in on a business day before 5pm, we pretty much guarantee a response sameday.

I have this very netbook with 1 gig and it is running 7 very nicely. I have a you tube video going in the other tab with no ill effect.

I have been having a problem where it just shuts off, sometimes a BSOD, sometimes not. If it doesnt stop I am going to return it.
