These are NOT 6.0GHz. DECT 6.0 operates in the 1.9GHz band. The 6.0 refers to the DECT standard, NOT the frequency.

I Wooted for these. This is a very good deal. The Best Buy units that were referenced in previous posts are only 4 hand sets. (You can expand these up to 12 hand sets. Each one goes for about $20.)

For those who question the quality...these are second to none. I'll only buy VTech. I've had other brands in the past and they don't hold up. Especially Uniden. My current Vtech 2 hand set unit is about 8 years old and the only thing wrong is that the silver color on the key pad is wearing off, but the numbers are still clear. If you're on the fence, don't wait.

Sure they're cheap, but with five of them I can drop one in the toilet and one in the sink and still have three phones left. Awesome!

Is the phonebook across all phones, or independent to one?

The main unit does hang on the wall but it sticks out. It hangs on the wall flat (in the same orientation if it were on a desk.)

FYI 6.0 = 1.9 mhz, this is out of the range of wireless routers 2.4 and 5.8. the lower the mhz (generally speaking) the longer the range.
My 5.8 would not work outside the house. My .900 would work over 3 blocks from my house. My 6.0 works on my block.

Please don't delete this post, I am trying, honest!

Bought one of these sets from woot the last time they came around. Terrible. They must run windows because I had to keep removing the battery from the handset, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect it so to get them to work. My wife HATED those phones. Didn't last more than a couple of months.

we bought the two unit set at a retailer and have been very happy with them. They hold a charge for quite a while (but then we are comparing them to our previous set which never did hold a charge well). On our previous set, only the handset that answered could speak to the caller, but on this one, both can participate, which means we don't have to carry one handset from one location to the other. and the intercom function is very nice for internal calls within the house - so much nicer than just yelling as loudly as you can.

I bought 2 sets from Radio Shack last Christmas for same price. You can use up to 8 handsets with one base unit. They work great, have been dropped a few times with no problems, do not interfere with other electronics and are easy to read at night. You can copy phone book between units. All in all, best cordless phones I have used so far.

Does anyone know if the sound is adjustable on these phone? And if so, does it go up very loud?
I have non-phone compatible hearing aids so I need a phone that that has volume control and that it goes up pretty darn loud so I can hear!

Does the base have a loudspeaker? In other words, can the phone be in the station and you can still talk using the main base?

In for one! I got the Woot Uniden phone about a year ago and it is getting flakey; here's hoping this unit lasts longer. Any consenus in Wootville over the expected lifetime of a cordless phone?

Anybody know if the batteries are Nickel Metal Hydride or NiCad? The manual appendix mentions proper disposal of NiMH. Can anyone confirm the battery type?

We've had a set of VTech phones for 8 years now. One died from overuse (the keypad finally got too dirty and wouldn't work reliably). The batteries have been phenomenal for cordless phones - and we've had many 2-3 hour long conference calls.

I'd jump on this in a second, except we really need the 2-line version.

We've used cordless phones for a long time. We replaced the last set (with last year's version of this 5-handset system) only because the screens started going flaky and we couldn't always see who was calling or read the directory display with confidence.

The set we replaced was about 10 years old.

So, we've had these phones for almost a year and have had no problems.

The only thing I don't like about this system is the lack of headset jack, as noted previously.

To the poster who wondered who still uses landlines - a bunch of us do. Everybody in my family has a cell phone, but coverage is spotty where we live and we have these phones to ensure we have some phone service. Also, when someone is trying to reach the family, rather than a specific individual, they call the family number.

We still have a corded landline in our bedroom because the handsets can scatter and we need to be sure that we can answer those middle-of-the-night calls that must be answered, without scrounging around for a handset.

Does anyone know if you can "mute" the ringers and still have the phone light up and be answerable? When kids are napping, I would like to enable this feature. If this phone doesn't permit this, does anyone know a phone that does? Seems like a reasonable feature to me.

Thanks Wooters, you rock.

Sorry - although the pictures show a 9 button, it is non-functional on this system. I have this system and when I dial a phone number with a 9 in it I have to hit the 4 and then 5. You got to do this really fast to fool the phone. Good luck.

You're doing it incorrectly. I've found the better method is to hit 3*3 which, of course, multiplies out to 9. No need to fool the phone, its built right in.

You're all wrong! Everybody knows its 8 + 1. That's consistent with the old land line system (see Bell systems). However, if you use Voip then other combination's work also!

It doesn't look like this one does, but the current phone system we have has customizable ring tones per caller. It's now many years old, the batteries are dying, and it's not DECT so we get interference every now and then. Does anyone know of one that does that's easily available?

Costco has the VTech CS6229-6 for $99.99 including shipping and handling. $35 more for a sixth hand set with one year return. I think this is s better deal.

Ah yes the plus key. You hit the 1 key, turn it 90 degrees to the right or left then hit the 1 key again. You can substitute the 4 key but you must hit it 3 times (4=GHI)

Someone mentioned Ooma Voip service. I went to their web site but they don't give specific pricing. Does anybody have their actual monthly billing cost? I'm currently using LINGO and my monthly bill is $21.95/month plus government mandated fees of about $10 a month. Does Ooma beat this price?

I have this phone and it has been great. To answer a couple questions.

2.4v 500mah NIMH battery

And no base loudspeaker....You have to find a handset to talk, cant answer at the base....

Biggest complaint? No belt clip....Everything else works fine and I like the way I can get my messages from the base thru the handset...

To add another comment on land lines - I have corded land line phones in the master bedroom and the office because I don't want those handsets walking off. I have 4 cordless handsets throughout the rest of the house with 1 unused = spare parts or to-be-determined location. I have taken one of these handsets a half block away and still can answer and make calls from my home phone number.

So, yeah, people with houses and families with kids can use more than one land line phone.
