I bought mine about a month ago. It's my first MP3 player, and I use it mostly in the car with a standard cassette adapter. The FM tuner has come in handy a few times as well. I really like it. It's simple, and it doesn't require any stupid "eye toons" or other software to use.

I <3 my casette adapter, but sadly my current vehicle doesn't have one in it...soooo I'm left with having to use an FM transmitter, which doesn't work well at all.

That is a Sansa Clip. I have one. It does not play video! The Sansa Fuse does.

You neglected to mention that the one you found for $37 has no screen and therefore will not do video playback.

Aside from being compact, the Fuze is not a patch on the Zune. Tiny screen, can't convert video with anything but the converter software from Sandisk, and worst of all, can't listen to it while it's plugged in to charge.

You can if you charge from an outlet (using an outlet-to-usb converter) or disable (like block with electrical tape) the pins on the usb connector of the cable that transmit data, leaving only the power pins exposed.

I bought one of these recently (off woot) and it is definitely worth it. I've put several Gundam Seed episodes on (a little difficult with subtitles, but I manage lol) Also, the sansa homepage provides you with a video converter that is really easy to use. I love big bang theory, I love my sansa, and together, we make one big happy family.

If you're debating on whether to buy this or hold out for an Ipod, don't wait. The Fuze is, in my opinion, the best sub-$100 media player on the market, far superior to the Nano especially for V1s that have Rockbox working on them.

Will this work with those video goggles make it seem like you're watching the videos on a big screen? (woot has had them several times, before)

While this does play video, it is a very small screen. If video is your thing, you probably need to seek out one of the more expensive players, at least in my opinion.

(My Zune does great with video, and i don't have an Ipod to compare it to - but even the Zune/IPod is a fairly small screen, really.)

On that note, cartoons hold up best on the video display.

Video display will drain the battery significantly compared to audio playback.

I got two of these in my Boggy Old Creature, and I have to say that the actual turning wheel is LOADS better than the touch-sensitive wheel the iPods have. It's more precise, and much less frustrating to use.

i don't miss my Zune at all when using any Sansa product. I know that Sansas get a bad rap on Woot because they show sooooo often, but i still find Sansa's Drag & Drop capability so much better than having to load ITunes or the Zune software. I can share music with friends, etc, and not have to worry about registering and installing things. yay sansa!

If you aren't a pirate and love music old and new get one of these and a subscription to something like Rhapsody To Go. I will never be without it.
The Sansa e-series players had flimsy headphone jacks but the Fuzes don't. My first 8 Gig Fuze did suffer the known "white screen of death" issue after near-daily use for a year and a half and I had to get it replaced under the extended Best Buy warranty. This costs not much more than that warranty did. My kids have ipods and our four Sansas over the years have held up better, have more features, better batteries, sound better, are expandable and . . . aren't ipods. The recording feature is very useful for meetings or to show the wife that she snores too, etc.

What's not to like? When I've got my 10 or 11 gigs of songs loaded it (or Rhapsody) takes a long time to initialize and sort out its library of tunes when you plug it in to the computer. And menus are not laid out in the most logical & useful way.

Do get the firmware update and you'll be able to scroll backwards from A to Z finally, and the FM reception is better so you can actually use it. And one thing about charging and playback at the same time - you can do that with a car outlet charger, though still not with USB for some reason.

I agree with the longevity of the Sansa products, and LOVE that they're NOT Ipods.

Important to note that you cannot listen while connected to a computer via USB, BUT you can purchase a Wall-to-USB charger (like so), and you can charge and listen while near an outlet

and like almost everything, do listen to this person and get the firmware update. it will give you better functionality. this goes for all Sansa products.

I can't overstate how much I love this player. Its support of ogg and flac formats was enough to get me to buy one a year ago. I've never regretted that purchase.

The only complaint I had was the lack of a video converter for Linux, but that is no longer the case; Linux users can now convert Fuze-compatible video using the software found here:

I got one of these the last time it was up for sale and I love it. $32 for 4 gigs on the drive and you can get a 8 gig SDHC card for under $20 on newegg. Thats a 12 gig media player for under 60 bucks!

I have had a micro SD card for a while that came with my cell phone. Until now I haven't been able to get any of the pictures/video from it on to my computer, or get MP3s on to my phone to use as ringtones (without buying a cardreader). I used the Fuse to transfer both my pictures to my computer and my music to my phone, so it also doubles as a micro SD card reader if you need one! :D

I have the 2GB version with an 8GB MicroSD card. I only use it for music, and it works great. Specs say max is a 16GB card, but that might have been written b4 32's were available. Only complaint I have is I wanted to use picture as wallpaper, but couldn't. Minor drawback. The sansa auto firmware updater runs great.Just download to your machine and install. Then plug the Fuse into a usb port. Drag and drop is supported in USB mode. Highly recommend.

One big negative ... the battery is not replaceable. When it dies, you are expected to throw out the unit and buy a whole new player (internally, the battery is soldered in place).

Do you really think thats slightly different?

that thing you are looking at buy.com is liek 8 years ago tech. it has no video at all, it does have a radio but so does the fuze. It cannot accept any type of card much less the latest micro sdhc.

not to metion it's a funky plastic body - the one at buy. com should be priced under 20.00. thats what i am saying. say like 18.00 stocking stuffer.

for real. the fuze here is the way to go.

also i believe this can be rock boxed which is cool as hell.

I'd be a millionair - my over head would be so incredibly low and my price on them would be un matchaable - plus i would offer to pre load them with up to ten albums of the buyers choice.

drm does not amuse me in the least, nor does media 'subscription'.

Media ought be device/platform agnostic.

Be aware of THE video format issue:

kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29
kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/101
forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board?board.id=smc

Container:
Fully Interleaved AVI

CODEC:
MPEG-4 Simple Profile level 1 or 2

Bit rate
Up to 512Kbps

Resolutions
QCIF+ (224x176)

FPS
Up to 20 fps

yay? no: the opposite of yay!

amazon.com/review/RE42O9NXCTOGP/

However, the reviewer's statement "regular AVI" does detract from the credibility of the post as a whole.

BE SURE to manually update the firmware otherwise you'll receive 'comlimentary bloatware':
www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42199

The fuze ought support multiple video containers- and codecs. Requiring the use of their transcoding application is less than ideal at best.

For video playback the manufacturer would be better served providing an HDMI out option to make it a portable "media streamer" analog.
