I suspect the built-in speakers on this thing will not produce the greatest fidelity...am I right?

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

For the noise quality. I mean if you were cleaning your house and had this thing plugged in in another room would you be able to listen to it? Also when the phone rings can you here the ringer over the speakers?

We have the newer surround sound model and it's really great!

So, I was thrilled when I saw this and almost instantly bought 2 more to use in other rooms and 1 for a spare xmas gift but...then just before clicking the big button, I noticed it is not the same as the one we have.

Now I dunno after seeing the amazon reviews....might have to google a bit more first.

The price is great--but not if my big bear of a husband completely mutilates it with his manhands the first time he tries to charge/listen to his ipod.

If only it had a clock and an alarm for said clock, then I would be tempted as I need a new iAlarm.

I can only ask when WOOT is choosing products, do they not check the quality of the item?! One only has to look at Amazons reviews to see that this is a horrible choice!

Also, is the hinge joint at the base metal or plastic. I can't tell you how many of this style lamp I've had where the plastic hinge breaks off, leaving a pile of junk.

Amazon reviews unanimously answered my question. This has the same design flaw all the others of this style have: the attachment joint between lamp arm and base is woefully inadequate. This could be a nice project for you Makers though! Devise a nice titanium bracket reinforcement device and sell it too all the poor fools who fell for this in the first place. :-)

No, you have an extra apostrophe (or, alternately, an extra is). It's 'gens', not 'gen's'. The gens don't own anything.

But to answer your original question, it says on the front page anything 4G and later. The first 4th generation came out July 19, 2004. So in theory, everything made after that should work.

However, I have a car charger that worked on my 2G Mini (after that date), but not on my new Nano (also after that 4G date). Somewhere along the line, they made changes. And I'm not sure exactly where. It's a big known thing. So...who knows.

This Wikipedia article has dates on all the iPod models. I miss the days where it was just 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, and Mini. So much easier!

It's the nature of w00t's business model-they're jobbers, they buy lots of whatever other people have left. That often means refurbs or discontinued models instead of new units/new models.

My koi: Kensington Productivity Bundle (x2), Random koi: 2006 Calendar Edition (x3), $1,000,000 April Fool's Baggy of Camomile (x1), Screaming Monkey Tee (x1), Random koi: Birthday Edition (x3)

No one seems to know whether or not the head of the gooseneck can rotate to point up and back. If that is a possibility, then this might be worth the $32 as a project lamp. I suspect that if you cut out the long tube and JB weld the lamp head directly to the lamp base, with a generous reinforcement of glasstape and epoxy, this could serve as a decent ipod(phone?) player with ambient up-light illumination. But since I'd put it next to the computer, which has ipod connectors already, and all the music in itunes, what's the point really?

I do need a new lamp, but I'm still not able to convince myself that this is the one. Any Makers still up tonight? Thoughts?

No to the responses about having to jailbreak. The iPwn's Clock app runs "in the background" without jailbreaking. It has countdown alarm, and multiple regular Alarms. It plays sounds out the dock connector on most other appliances that allow music to play, so this should turn your iPwn/od into a loud alarm clock.

I notice there is a BASS button. Might there be a model with a SALMON button? Does the Japanese version come with a SAKE button? That would certainly make this a worthy purchase if instant sushi dispenser is included!

Actually I wasn't. The app is called Night Stand. No it does not run in the back ground but neither does a regular alarm clock. The glow from the display makes a great night light for restroom breaks in the middle of the night. I don't use it anymore as I was concerned about the display burning out. I would like this woot if it were not prone to breakage and if someone could confirm it works with the iphone. I would use it with the sleep maker app where you fall asleep to rain or nature sounds on a timer. I currently use an older ipod dock on my night stand and it gives me the warning each time I charge it that it was not made to work with this ipod but it works out great after all since I don't hear e-mail or text notifications while I am trying to sleep but the phone will ring in case of an emergency and if you are calling in the middle of the night it had better be an emergency!

What do you mean by "a regular alarm clock doesn't run in the background"? I was refering to the fact that you have to remember to launch the application and not close it out when you want the alarm to function. The standard alarm works fine except for the cancellation sound effects and the inability to set songs as the alarm sound.

I think this one takes the prize:

It's called the "iCarta" and is a real product, made by Atech Flash Technology. Retails for $99.95, so if you're flush with cash (har!) you may want to pick one of these babies up for that special someone in your life this Christmas.
