I suspect the built-in speakers on this thing will not produce the greatest fidelity...am I right?
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Also, is the hinge joint at the base metal or plastic. I can't tell you how many of this style lamp I've had where the plastic hinge breaks off, leaving a pile of junk.
Amazon reviews unanimously answered my question. This has the same design flaw all the others of this style have: the attachment joint between lamp arm and base is woefully inadequate. This could be a nice project for you Makers though! Devise a nice titanium bracket reinforcement device and sell it too all the poor fools who fell for this in the first place. :-)

The lamps at kids.woot.com are a much better buy, IMHO. Too bad I don't need or desire little fuzziewuzzies on my lamps. :-P

I can only ask when WOOT is choosing products, do they not check the quality of the item?! One only has to look at Amazons reviews to see that this is a horrible choice!
It's the nature of w00t's business model-they're jobbers, they buy lots of whatever other people have left. That often means refurbs or discontinued models instead of new units/new models.

No one seems to know whether or not the head of the gooseneck can rotate to point up and back. If that is a possibility, then this might be worth the $32 as a project lamp. I suspect that if you cut out the long tube and JB weld the lamp head directly to the lamp base, with a generous reinforcement of glasstape and epoxy, this could serve as a decent ipod(phone?) player with ambient up-light illumination. But since I'd put it next to the computer, which has ipod connectors already, and all the music in itunes, what's the point really?
I do need a new lamp, but I'm still not able to convince myself that this is the one. Any Makers still up tonight? Thoughts?

No to the responses about having to jailbreak. The iPwn's Clock app runs "in the background" without jailbreaking. It has countdown alarm, and multiple regular Alarms. It plays sounds out the dock connector on most other appliances that allow music to play, so this should turn your iPwn/od into a loud alarm clock.

7 reviews at Amazon. All two stars or less. The big complaint is how easy it breaks, or that it arrived broken.
I don't care what you think.

I notice there is a BASS button. Might there be a model with a SALMON button? Does the Japanese version come with a SAKE button? That would certainly make this a worthy purchase if instant sushi dispenser is included!
