Haha, thanks to the monster cable info. I got theres no way i'll buy monster anything.

Will you? http://www.monstergreed.com/Index%20with%20info%20about%20MC.htm

I think this is a bit extreme. While I don't have a special love for the monster company, if you examine other cable companies that sell cables and peripherals, you will see that there is always a high margin on peripherals. It's just a market effect. Companies don't make big margin on the big electronics because the markup isn't that much to begin with. Cables are really cheap to make, and so companies make the rest of their margin up by selling them at high profit. Just look at companies like Belkin. They sell a 10" usb cable for like $18 when it costs like $.25 to make. It's not a crime, it's just the market.

While I think monster cables are expensive, I show my discontent by not buying them. That's also your right.

Do you think Hawaii is not good enough for WOOT?

Yeah, I mean if they really wanted to show thier loyalty to woot they could ship it to someone in the continental states and then have them reship it to hawaii! :) I'd think they must already do this for good woots because why else would people from Hawaii and Alaska keep watching woot if they knew they could never buy anything? ;)

At SLAC, and in any particle physics facility, we also see the reverse effect -- energy producing new matter. In the presence of charged particles a photon (which only has kinetic energy) can change into a massive particle and its matching massive antiparticle. The extra charged particle has to be there to absorb a little energy and more momentum, otherwise such a process could not conserve both energy and momentum. This process is one more confirmation of Einstein's special theory of relativity. It also is the process by which antimatter (for example the positrons accelerated at SLAC) is produced.

surely a photon could, in principle, convert to a single particle which would conserve the momentum and energy of the original photon? Is not the extra 'charged' particle produced to conserve charge? (and do not the two particles that are produced, matter and antimatter, share the energy and momentum equally...so the 'extra charged particle' is not there to absorb a 'little' energy and momentum?)..which begs the question, why are charged particles produced and not neutral ones?..just a thought?

Well, even if they don't do "real" 5.1 surround these look like they might still manage to shake the building to its foundations. We shall soon see what annoyance these babies can wreak upon unsuspecting neighbors in my apartment complex... It was time for an upgrade of some sort anyhoo.

Balls---I thought this was a great deal and jumped on it. I see know that it isn't surround sound and is only really 65 watts not 130 true watts. Too quick with my woot finger. Too bad you can't cancel with the woot.

No such thing as digital speakers. Acoustic energy (as perceived by your ears/brain) is purely analog.

Train yourself to percieve pulses of light as sound (LSD helps), and you can receive digital signals.

haha, don't forget mushrooms.

I'm going to sleep on this one, see how I feel in the morning.

All you had to do was read the description of the product. . . woot says clearly:

"But, well, see, it’s like this, heh…near as we can tell, these speakers don’t actually process true surround sound. They just take a regular old stereo signal and spread it around to six speakers...that’s not real surround sound in our book"

I love how nobody ever reads the description of what they buy anymore these days :)

It's not that simple.

When they say they're going to take some random crap, and put it in a bag, it's momentarily the most freakin' popular item on the planet.

I'm not sure what's funnier - that they would do that, or that people would clamor to buy it. I'd expect it's done as a loss-leader, not a directly profitable item, and it sure does seem to build up the client base.

Personally, as soon as I saw the Monster brand I knew I wasn't interested. But it does seem like about the right price - for people who don't choose to avoid Monster - and the honesty in the description is ... well, "refreshing" is an overloaded (if not overused) word around here, but it fits.

I snagged one cuz I have the spare cash at the moment and I like having spare speakers around. I could use some right now, so sure why not. If I hate them, i'll ebay em.

Thanks for the woot tonight!

It had promise, and then I read the specs and realized it's not a true 5.1 system. The wattage is a litle low to top it off. I'll hold off for something better, even if it means spending a little more money for it. Trying to fake 5.1 sound just doesn't cut it.

These are EXACTLY what I have been looking for!

I bought a Walmart Black Friday $994 42in Plasma that has leftover internal speakers from a AOC monitor, serriously folks, on high volume my IPOD headphones sound better from 10 feet away!

I currently have a set of mystery speakers hooked up to get sound out, but no remote.

This solves all my problems, AND includes wall brackets.

THANKS WOOT!!!!

Now if I can get the Tivo remote code (If there is one!)

You're wasting THESE speakers on a plasma TV? Shame on you, good sir. Shame on you.

I think of it this way, at this price I'm paying for just the cables AND GETTING THE SPEAKERS FOR FREE!!! But wait... Mounting hardware too!? Wow! Kick Ass deal!

Also to the people complaining about Monster's reputation. I have a few audio nut friends and know that Monster cables aren't worth the price, but see that's just it... you are not paying "the" price! And they are better than your typical radio-shack cables.

Does anyone know how this would work as a PC gaming set? I have a 6.1 surround sound setup, and while this would not use the back channel, the price is right up my alley.

Suggestions?

sure, they aren't the best around and don't produce true 5.1 surround...
but give 'em to an 8 year old for Christmas for playing the PS2 and it's a winner!

Thanks Woot!

This is my very first Woot and I've got to tell you I think that its a GREAT one! Where else could you get a system like this for this money? (With the exception of Froogle, as some of you have pointed out) Awesome price, saved over $100-150 street price on these.

Someday when I can afford what I really want to do I will.

This is hopefully better than Mystery Speakers for the time being!

We have a home theater, thats where the good stuff is. This is where we watch TV.
