How many of these folks above type a stupid generic phrase into wordpad then copy it such as 'wow, that is a nice woot' only to try and be the first post, making NO sense whatsoever? AND not even knowing what it was just clicking discuss this product, pressing CTRL-V and then clicking Post? Ugh...

Cheapest on froogle is 89 bucks....this is a steal for anyone interested!!

AuraDave,
You've apparently not yet grasped the idea of the Great Woot-a-torium. Sure it's nice to read "Best Price on Froogle is ..." and "These work well, but brand X is better for less money", but a front-page Woot post means a lot to us lesser people.

Keep up the fabulous "generic phrases" fellow Wooters. In fact, spice 'em up a little! More than just "Great Woot", try "Great Woot. I haven't seen a Woot this Deal-riffic in 7 Years! Mo-Woot, Mo-Problems."

I ENJOY!!! Woot On!

This is Woot-astic! Thats Woot-derful! You're so full of Woot, and you don't know it!

This item seems only good for resale purposes. I mean even the woot description seems to trash the product.

problem is it isn't true 5.1, its just replicating stereo. I would have jumped on them if they were indeed 'surround sound'

Uh dude,

These are 5.1 surround speakers. Each speaker plays a distinct channel. I have a feeling the Dolby Digital/DTS decoder is not built in, so you have to feed it 6 analog channels, but it's definitely a discrete 5.1 speaker system. And it's a great price at that.

I picked up a set, so I'll have to see how they sound. Lack of 5.1 doesn't mean they're crap, but poor sound quality would. In fact a non 5.1 set of surround speakers can be very useful for quite a few situations where you don't have any DD5.1 anyway.

Personally, I think the whole anti-monster thing is blown out of proportion. Besides, if the cables aren't that good then has every home theater or audio store I've been in carry a variety of Monster cables? They often also have some of the very high end cabling that runs around $500 per foot or more. I'm not talking about Best Buy or chain stores, but about the shops that only focus on home theater and audio equipment.

Anyway, I just couldn't resist curiousity on these speakers. I could never even find many pictures of them expect the same front view that Woot has.

All I gotta say is KLIPSCH rules the planet on speakers like these...
I REALLY dislike Monster as a company (ripoff!)

BUT this is a Woot-tastic deal. Darn Wootin' it is.

If I knew any hardcore nerds I like, I would be buying these for a gift.

As is, you better grab them as the ball is a bouncin' !!!

how can this be THX certified and not even be dolby digital compatible. THX certified stereo speakers (blown up into 5) now this is a new one! For the price good stuff but THX certified, c'mon.

Doesen't take much for THX certification these days...

The CABLES have the THX certification. Which means your last statement is spot on accurate! ;-)

Well technically if you place the speakers around you doesn't the sound surround you? Reminds me of product descriptions that use the term "system" to describe something with only one or two functions/components. Maybe a flashlight could be a "Variable spread portable directional light generation system"

Yeah, I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with what you just said. The 5.1 merely refers to the number of speakers. The description clearly states that these speakers don't offer 6 distinct channels. Notice when they say it's a waste if you're plugging it into a 5.1 sourround sound audio card. It basically takes stereo channels and distributes it to the 5 speakers.

That being said, it was still a great price.. Cheapest price out there by far. But I don't know anybody that has a tv just for gaming. Most of us also watch movies and tv on our tvs and aren't going to have two sets of speakers for the different uses.

I think of it this way, at this price I'm paying for just the cables AND GETTING THE SPEAKERS FOR FREE!!! But wait... Mounting hardware too!? Wow! Kick Ass deal!

Also to the people complaining about Monster's reputation. I have a few audio nut friends and know that Monster cables aren't worth the price, but see that's just it... you are not paying "the" price! And they are better than your typical radio-shack cables.

That's where you're wrong. Actually, they aren't any better than Radio Shack's Gold Series.

Can you? Yes. Would you want to? Most likely, NO. However, if you don't have a dolby digital receiver or a DVD player with its own Dolby digital decoder then these might be ok, but I doubt it. Part of the additional problem is that they is really only about 65 watts of power, which isn't much. Don't plan on cranking up your stereo with these speakers.

we’re pointing our left index finger and stroking it with our right, to shame Monster for their mendacity.

mendacity: 1. The condition of being mendacious; untruthfulness.
2. A lie; a falsehood.

Oh you guys are good, really good.

I got these speakers about 3 years ago before Monster put their money hungry name on them. Everything is exactly the same from the shape to the bases to the remote. The only difference is the blue and the M logo. Oh, and the price, I got mine for about $50 IN STORE. I freakin hate Monster so efing much for cornering EVERY market in the history of history. Remember, if you're one of those idiots that thinks Monster products are far superior in quality, you'll be dissapointed in these speakers because they aren't actually Monster...they just paid to have their logo put on them.

I never expect much quality for $50 speakers, but sometimes you get lucky and a certain set matches well with your ears making it a decent set for the price.

My favorite computer speakers so far have been the Monsoon Audio flat panels, but I had placement issues sense they are extremely directional and have small sweet spots. So I got in on the Dell speaker deal a long while back, but I really am not very impressed with the sound of the Dells and I don't like the speaker size/shape at all. So I'm curious how these sound. I don't even have rear speakers hooked up now anyway.
